Of course he doesn't want his game to be rated AO, since he could only sell it on the PC in that case (at least in the US, probably Mortal Kombats biggest market).
It's probably not even possible anyways, since the violence in Mortal Kombat has always been cartoonish and over the top. To be truly AO, you'd need your game far more serious, but that's not the way it should go.
Amongst the big fighting game series, Mortal Kombat seemed to me to be the easiest one to just pick up and play. Your friends didn't have to get the game themselves, you just did some punching and kicking and special moves, that was about it. Fun stuff, actually.
