Of course he doesn't want his game to be rated AO, since he could only sell it on the PC in that case (at least in the US, probably Mortal Kombats biggest market).
It's probably not even possible anyways, since the violence in Mortal Kombat has always been cartoonish and over the top. To be truly AO, you'd need your game far more serious, but that's not the way it should go.
Amongst the big fighting game series, Mortal Kombat seemed to me to be the easiest one to just pick up and play. Your friends didn't have to get the game themselves, you just did some punching and kicking and special moves, that was about it. Fun stuff, actually.

this is pretty dumb, personally, they could make a mortal kombat with just scorpion and sub-zero and I'd be fine.
Most people would be. Did anyone play anyone else? I mean, I played Jaxx and Liu Kang for a BIT, but I wouldn't miss them if they were gone :p

Thank you! Now if we can just pretend MK vs DC never happened, all will be well in the MK universe again... maybe.

Why in that Frienship shot does Raiden look like he wants to be far far away from Johnny Kage? Doesn't seem so friendly to me....just saying.

"Yea....I don't know where the line is to make MK an AO rated game," Boon said. "But we definitely don't want to kross it."
That being said, have AO games even been sold at retail before? If not, then I guess it makes sense, because they would actually like to make, well, money. And that is something they haven't seen in a long time.
Rockstar did it with GTA San Andreas, but they put it in disguise. Frankly I don't see how they could push MK into AO territory with the classic MK fatalities. Short of doing a humiliation option where Sonja gets exposed.
