They could've repeated things, and have Jax/Sonya be the newbs that we follow, but I feel they wanted to distance themselves from being too much like the plot of the 95 film. So, new character.

I get it, but I would prefer having just went with the Jax or Sonya option. They still coulda distance themselves from the '95 film and done that. But no, the big movie execs got to put their dicks in the cake.
