If im ignoring other M, Samus takes the cake imho; she blew up two planets on her own, exterminated astronomical number of ennemies, all more powerfull and epic than the last.

Firefight is pretty much nothing more than a clone of Gears of War's Horde mode or Left 4 Dead's Survival mode.

except that marathon, (halo's predecessor) had a survival mode back in the 90's so it's really just more of a rehash of a system they invented

I simply don't understand how people can think Kratos is badass. I mean, he certainly has the bad part down, and he is definitely an ass, but he's just not a badass.

Being badass requires more than just dumb muscle, it requires virtues, like bravery. If you're a dead-inside, death-seeking, or reckless beyond rational logic, you're not brave, you're just a mindless killing machine.

I just googled "badass" and I found this "badass: troublemaker; one who is rough, tough, mean, or, sometimes, violent"

I think by this definition, Kratos is clearly the perfect example of a badass character.
