One by metallica 'cause seriously if you know what the song is all about it's really depressing.
also noted: Fade to Black (would be most if it wasn't pure awesome and had a better connection beetween lyrics and the reason it was written)
Welcome home(sanitarium)
The Unforgiven

EDIT: also My selene and Letter to dana by Sonata Arctica

That song is more depressing if it's sent to you by the only girl you want by your side and she lives over a hundred miles away...

Radiohead's Street Spirit. It has been named a few times, but it's really ahead of the other songs in this topic.

This song actually pulled me out of depression because I realised there was someone else out there who felt the same way -

Because I love animals I find the video makes this song deeply affecting -

Hmmm, all of these are sad songs, but there is only one song I know of that captures the emotion of hopelessness and depression.

For Whom the Bells Toll by Steve Barker and Carmen Daye

Isn't the official "most depressing song ever" Gloomy Sundays (can't remember the singer) or something?

Well, Damn near any Evanescence song would fit here but probably Missing from Evanescence is really depressing.

I instantly thought about Hallelujah. Any cover.

Hurt by NIN

That diminished 5th just screams misery

In a good way, of course
Making teens depressed is like shooting fish in a barrel.

What depresses me aren't really songs that have lyrics that describe depression or depressing facts of life or anything like that, or even songs that have a dark sound and a melody in minor or anything. What really depresses me are both the extremely cynical songs that have in my mind little to do with "real" music and on the other hands songs that describe a simplistic view of happiness and life in general. I've got nothing against "happy" songs as such.

But as for songs that I like to listen to when I feel like shit:

Lots of the old Nine Inch Nails works, not only hurt. Somewhat Damaged hits the spot right, also Terrible Lie, Happiness in Slavery, I Do Not Want This, The Great Below... Or good old "That's what I get"

Believe me, that stuff has been the soundtrack to the most fucked up part of my life yet, and I'm glad I snapped out of it.

from "Somewhat Damaged"

Broken bruised forgotten sore
Too fucked up to care anymore
Poisoned to my rotten core
Too fucked up to care anymore

[...]

How could i ever think it's funny how everything you swore would
Never change is different now, like you said you and me make it
Through didn't quite fell apart
Where the fuck were you?

That's what I get:

Why's it come as a surprise
to think that I was so naive
maybe didn't mean that much
but it meant everything to me

Happiness in slavery:

Don't open your eyes, you won't like what you see
The devils of truth steal the souls of the free
Don't open your eyes, take it from me...
I found you can find happiness in slavery

On non-NIN songs...

Death Cab For Cutie - I will follow you into the dark

This one only works i certain situations, but it's beautiful anyways:

And it's creative commons, so you can download it and not go to hell afterwards!

They're some German songs, but you wouldn't get them without at least basic knowledge of German...
