The most depressing song is in my opinion this: ...though you may have to know a little of Jimmie Rodgers' history (i.e. that he died of his TB a few years later) in order to fully appreciate it.

I've been trying to find a good version of the piano refrain from Schindler's list, but can't find the version I have on my pc. Regardless I think the harrowing beauty of that piece of music deserves a mention.

Probably the most depressing thing I listen to is Katatonia. They're generally called Gothic Metal and have quite a few songs about depression, but really their music videos speak for themselves...

This is just... depressing. Very, very, very depressing. It's terrible because it really happens, too.

This is also depressing, but in a more obvious sense.

"'Cause it's the saddest song you'll ever hear!
The worst pain you'll ever feel!
But you grit your teeth 'cause it don't get better than this! Know this!
And you'll try to explain as the blood leaves all your veins,
and you can't think of anything that you would change!" - Streetlight Manifesto

Woods by Bon Iver.
IT'S TERRIBLE
Why? Because someone used autotune for something creative and amazing for once?
Alternatively he could have sang the fucking thing himself and actually put a bit of effort into the song. Without autotune it would've been a masterpiece, now it's just a pile of horrible-sounding almost-vox notes.

Awesome song, but it revels in the destruction too much to be depressing. If the thread was called "Most Ironically Hopeful Song" this would win hands down.
Ok, well then how about:
Or is that the same thing?

These songs were always personal favorites of mine and I always found the sentiments they expressed to be pretty depressing, but far from the most depressing songs out there.

"Dyed in the Wool" by Circa Survive

"Chapter 13" by +44

Embedding didn't work for whatever reason.

"Konstantine" by Something Corporate. It's the first song I learned when I decided to teach myself the piano.

It's beautiful. Not really depressing(except for some of the lyrics), though).

[small]"It's to dying in anothers arms, and why I had to try it." Is one of the greatest lines I've ever heard.[/small]

My First Friend by Hyadain, no contest. Only song that can almost make me cry, and I never had a dog. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlAmKsmLav8
