When I came back from school, I found that my 6 year old uncle has erased my whole Gamecube memory card. My progress in Wind Waker, my characters in Super Smash Bros. Melee, my Sunshines in Mario... GONE....
Wait, 6 year old uncle?

Perfect Dark on the Nintendo 64, i had an complete single player save with cheats unlocked and a good portion of the Multi-player unlocked. and i had to do it all again. good thing it was such an great game so replaying wasn't too bad.

I'm not a 100% weirdo so loss of files usually don't bother too much, but one that did get to me was losing my Dead Rising save file, maxed health, best ending, all unlockables, all survivors, gone because my mum's friend had to bring her dipshit twins around for me to babysit, and they had to play Dead Rising, even though they could barely kill one zombie. Little fuckers convinced me to never have children.

I was playing Star Fox Adventures with a friend and we were nearing the end of the game. When we went to take a break from playing, his little brother deletes the save file. Dunno why apparently we pissed him off with something.

Final fantasy tactics. Max level character that mastered every single job. I cried a little.
I had a maxed out FFT save too. After taking a break for a year or so I come back and it's gone. :(

This happened to a Wind Waker save too. I was at about 50% and carefully completing every goal and gathering every heart. I take a break and when I come back a couple months later it's all gone.

I've lost everything. Everything. Not all at once, oh no. But I'd switch on my trusty PS1 to find that my little bastard of a son had yet again managed to wipe another file. Among others, I lost Crash Bandicoot more times than I can begin to remember, and never managed to finish the bloody thing because eventually he managed to scratch the disk as well. He was about 3 at the time so there was a limit to how much I could rip him a new one for it, I could just stomp about the house in impotent rage while my wife looked at me condescendingly and said she didn't see what all the fuss was about.

Of course, now he's the gamer in the house and leaves me standing. But that's because we've got a (hawk, spit) Wii these days and I can't bear to play for more than a minute or two.

Chrono Trigger: it was my first rpg, the cartridge went KO about midway through the game. I refused to buy a new one for 1 year, then ultimately finished it.

I'm a real wuss and played it in small dosages, though I wanted to get to the end so badly
then after I was on my way to the hotel (after the hospital) BAM! nod32 thought the save file is a virus and deleted it
"okay" I said" I'll load in a previous one"
"the folder is corrupted-try reinstalling the game"
okay, did it
"the folder is corrupted-try reinstalling the game"

so yeah, a month of getting scared shitless, wrestling with the horrible camera, searching for the key to open the door was gone, I could've start it again but then all the surprise and unexpectedness is gone and I was in no mood to go through all of it again

so yeah, the pc port was buggy as hell without this anyway, BUT I DON'T CARE, IF THEY MAKE A PORT OF A GAME IT MUST BE AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL BECAUSE I'M NOT BUYING A PS2 JUST FOR 1 GAME, the pc emulator port of sh1 was better glitchwise

My Persona 2 loss, especially since there's never really been an english release, and at the time, I had to sift through the Japanese and translate it by hand. Once I played it again, I knew what was going on, but just before hand, it really bothered me.

I was playing Riviera: The Promised Land for like the 8th time, just working on the completion. For some reason I took the game out of my DS and put it in my pocket. Those pants went through the washer a couple hours later.

The game wasn't destroyed, thankfully. But all of my 100+ hour saves, unlockable CG art, and the soundtrack, gone. Just gone.
I have never been more sad than at that moment >.<

I had one of those really old crappy PS1 memory cards that were really brittle cheap plastic, only by the time I realised how shit they were, it cracked and couldn't be inserted into the PS anymore. I lost my FF7 game with everything on, all bosses down, chocobos, all summons etc. It was a big deal as a kid. I could probably do that very quickly these days ;)

I deleted an "account" on World at War on my Wii. I was in a high prestige. I though I was renaming my gamertag and deleted the file/account. Also keep in mine this was before I had a grip on good games, powerful consoles, and legitimate opinions. I had a late start on video games so I was this 12to13-year-old who though the Wii was good and was really obsessed with Call of Duty.

Crash of my external HD with my (supposed to be) backup savegames:
Morrowind saves with 400+ hours.
A bunch of NWN saves/chars.
A Diablo II Paladin somewhere around level 80.
Sacred char at max-level (250 or so if I remember correctly).
7 different KOTOR pre-Malak(final fight) saves.
5 high-level Titan Quest chars.
Some Hearts of Iron 2 saves, a lot of Civ 3 and 4 saves all with alot of hours played.
.
.
.
And many more I can't and don't want to recall right now...

.
.
*starts sobbing*

My first Phantasy Star Online file (where it somehow got corrupted) however the second time I played it I had a lot of better rare weapons (until I lost my memory card...).
The second one is losing my Timesplitter 3 files when my brother carelessly turn it off while saving. It took me ages to unlock the characters again since some of them I got them the first time round by pure luck.

There was this PS/PS2 monthly demo disk that I used to subscribe or get or w.e when I was a kid. One of them had a virus/bug on it. If you played the demo with your memory cards in the console they wiped the cards. I had both of mine in the console from the million games I had. They told me about this a month later in a "OOPS SORRY" mail-letter.
