After beating story mode and making it to about 80% completion, my Saint's Row 2 files became corrupt. Started a new game a few nights ago and am damn near finished with my pre-game buffing. Not too ad I guess but still: I invested a lot of time into that game.

Oh yea know..the usual hours worth of content on Oblivion or another similar RPG with no decent autosave. Do I ever learn from this sort of loss, no, oh well. On the bright side I just get to play sick games even more.

My first Final Fantasy VII game as well as my first Final Fantasy Tactics game both became corrupted near the end of the game. I'm talking fifteen minutes or less of game left before they were considered beaten. It suuucked.

My Pokemon Crystal game, I had every pokemon, they were all level 60 and above, it was in my gamecube, on the gameboy player, then one day while I was downstairs my friend tugged the gamecube controller which made it drop and it smashed the game. I was devastated

When I switched My old Xbox 360 to the New version, I played Mass effect 2 only to find the saves had not transferred yet all the other saves had.

.................I'm still recreating new characters to replace the one's I lost.

well i accidently deleted my xbl gamertag resulting in a loss of ALL my game saves, this included saves like infinite undiscovery level 255 for almost every character on infinity mode just before the seraphic queen, (or technically halfway of seraphic gate) for people who dont know about ifinite undiscovery on infinity mode most people cant kill the first two guards.

Not only this but i had about 30-35k gamerscore and had maxed out the achievements for games like oblivion, tekken 6 mw2, and i cant recover the profile because my old hotmail got hacked, i had played well over 50 games i was pissed and still am, new gt not even reached a thousand gamerscore and icba to replay 50 games i already raped the hell outta

I left on a trip overseas a number of years back, just for a few months. Then, when I got back, my little brothers had wiped all of my PS2 memory cards, all of my Gamecube memory cards, all of my PSX memory cards, and had decided to trade in half of my games to buy new ones.

Needless to say, I was a little upset. I carefully walked out of the room, and never left my consoles behind again. Ever.

My old PS2 memory card. It was an Action Replay Max one, I think 4x the size of the official ones (64MB or something?) and I kept ALL my favourite games on it. Every GTA, Final Fantasy X, X-2 and XII, Burnout 2, 3 and Revenge, plus about 60 others.

In the GTAs I had a combined 30 or so files, including a 100% complete file of all 5 (III, VC, SA, LCS and VCS), and several saves just before my favourite missions in each game. In Vice City, I even had 3 100% files, all done separately from scratch. FFX, I had an almost-100% complete file, by which I mean all I had left was to get my stats up from ~200 to 255, and beat the final 4 Dark Aeons, Nemesis and Penance. I had the Ultimate weapons, loadsa money, had beaten all the Monster Arena monsters (besides Nemesis and Penance) and the rewards from every sidequest possible. X-2, I had virtually all the abilities from almost every... thing, I can't even remember what they were any more. FFXII, again, nearly completed, all I needed was a bit of powerlevelling to beat Yiasmat and that robot thing (Omega XIII?) Every Burnout was 100% complete. And I played The Warriors a lot - although it takes about 5-6 hours to complete and 15 or so to 100%, I had a >200-hour save on there. I had not used hacks to do any of this, but I had done to mess around on GTA and a couple of others.

This amounted to well over 5000 hours of games, about 75% of my PS2 gaming time, and about 30% of my time overall. The memory card just decided one day that it needed to format itself, which it normally does as soon as you get it. Without doing this, every time I tried to access a save, either the saves didn't show up, I got an 'unformatted card' message or it just froze. I couldn't even salvage the card, since the formatting failed every time I tried to do it. I think that was the last time I played my PS2.

Not me but my dad.

When my brother was around two years old he got a copy of my dads 100% completion copy of Super Mario World and erased the entire thing. I have a very clear memory of my dad holding up two in front of him and saying 'this one is mine and this one is yours.' Then he sat back down and started all over again while I bugged him to beat Star Fox for me.

I lost around 11 hours of Fallout New Vegas gameplay due to a corrupts save file. Kids, remember to not rely on the autosave, make backups, even on consoles

ah, the one that comes most to mind was, WAY back when FF3 (FF6 to you kids now a days...) first launched... i'd played for days stright.. and it DIED on me in the world of ruin, right inside the cave were you recurit Locke.... not just a lost save, a dead cartrage...

And the best part was... the story was sold out... so i got a refund instead of a game... so i had to start over once i'd hunted a copy down... no small task if i recall, cause at the time i was a 12 or 13 year old at the mercy of my parents willingness to haul me around looking, and the shear fact there just wasn't many stores that had it to begin with.

My second copy worked and lasted for YEARS and YEARS of abuse. God i loved that game... They ever release it on the Wii network yet? I'll have to check...
