Quote for truth. The Tarrasque literally CANNOT die without using a Greater Wish or Miracle spell. Or preferably both if you want the fight to be over within the same day. Otherwise, any attacks made to it count as non-lethal damage. It can eat (literally) anything, has health regeneration, can reattach its limbs if you manage to sever them, damage reduction, and resistance or outright immunity to any of the useful status ailments (this is mostly from memory, it's been a while since I've looked at my books).

Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors 4 (I think it was 4). On Hu Lao Gate, when you break down the gate with the ram, he storms out and challenges you to a duel...as a new player, I thought, sure, why not...bad move by me.

.hack//sign first game. After data draining many a foe and getting through the dubious maze of a map you encounter the "final boss" After fighting the boss for over an hour, hands shaking from fear he is going to kill me with one swipe and all my potions gone I FINALLY data drain him. Then I have to defeat his little weak form. Before I can get a hit in I go to use my healing magic and it is locked up and he kills me in one hit. :/

Hey guys what's going on in this thread?

There's a trick. Assay Resistance (or just brute force his SR with a caster level check and get lucky) and then Plane Shift the both of you to the Positive Energy Plane and let the planar traits "kill" it for you. Sort of kill, anyway. In that it'll cease to exist as a distinct, Tarrasque-defined lifeform. Ideally do this when the thing is asleep. Oh and you'll probably want a second Plane Shift for yourself so you can get out of there before you pop also.

Granted, by doing do you've just done something terrible to the multiverse as a whole, but it's no longer your problem. And deep down that's what really counts.

For me, it was most of the bosses in Demon's Souls. One particular boss called the "Maneater".

This guy was a pain in the ass. Plain and simple. For one thing, the area you fight in is a narrow bridge without railings so if he knocks you down when you're next to a ledge, you fall off and die instantly. Which is much easier done than said because he loves to use that charge move.

To make matters worse, as the fight goes on, a SECOND one joins the fight. So if you didn't kill the first one quickly enough, you're basically dead. One time I whittled down the first one's health down until it was really low. He then flew up into the air where I couldn't hit him until his friend came along. How cheap is that?

I swear. During my second playthrough of the game, I had to take advantage of a glitch in which you fire arrows at the boss through the gate that leads you to the boss area. It's long, tedious, and cheap yes. But it's better than taking both of those guys on at once.

Final Fantasy 9's final boss was also quite difficult. Not only is he ridiculously fast, he also has a very nasty attack called "Grand Cross". Which basically casts multiple random status ailments on your party. Including ones you can't protect yourself from, such as mini, berserk, zombie, and even DEATH.

This was one of those few battles where Quina is almost required to beat this guy if you're not at a high level. Auto-Life and Angel's Snack are both VERY helpful against what this guy can dish out.

The final boss of Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse.

Dracula has 3 forms. In his first form, he summons fire from the floor that seems undodgeable so you just have to wail on him as fast as you can while being roasted alive.

Second form isn't too bad.

Third form: he turns into a giant demon that shoots lasers out of its eyes! Oh and the floor breaks up into rotating platforms.

And if you die, you have to play through the final level again, and you don't get your health refilled when you get to Dracula.

-------------------------------------

A close second is the final boss in Red Faction 2.

After watching an unskippable (but mercifully short) cutscene, you fight a giant mech that can kill you in short order, in a small room with one wall in the middle that quickly gets mostly destroyed.

When you finally destroy the mech, the pilot jumps out. He has a gun that shoots through walls (or what's left of it), and for some reason has as much health as the mech, despite the fact that he is wearing no armor.

After defeating him, you are rewarded with an ending cinematic that is weaker than the one in Castlevania III for the NES!

-------------------------------------

Honorable mention is the boss to Golden Sun 1. It took me a year of trying (and grinding) on and off to win that one.

Wouldn't say it's the hardest since it's mostly my fault for not finding enough Djinn along the way to be able to do any of the good summons.

The boss has two forms, and there is an unskippable ten minute cutscene before it. Why do developers do that!!!

Lu Bu from the Dynasty Warriors series. Especially if it's the first time you ever played a Dynasty Warriors game and had no idea who he was. It's probably best not to pursue him.
From Dynasty Warriors 5 onwards, Lu Bu has been a push over.

In Dynasty Warriors 4 at Hu Lao gate, he slaughtered me repeatedly until I just kept ignoring him.

And then I used Zhou Tai.
And Zhou Tai's Musou.
And Lu Bu went down without so much as a fuss. Getting my musou back was the dangerous part, really.

Final boss in Lost Planet 2 was a ***** because you are never explicitly told how to beat it. Wesker in Resident Evil 5 was a ***** too.

Oh god, I despise her non-spells. Weave back and forth constantly, do it again, stream, stream, rinse, lather repeat. Even if you can angle a shot from anywhere with Sakuya B, she is still a massive pain to fight.
Actually, I normally do Reimu A so I don't have to bother with aiming too much.
