Freespace 2 - anyone familiar with the greatest space shooter of all time will know why.

I truly passionately miss Freelancer... My disc is gone... and I mourn that loss oh so often... That was a friggin game!
The ending (of the campaign anyways, the game doesn't ever really 'end') was pretty sweet. I should really fire that up again sometime...

Shadow of the Colossus makes me feel like a badass when Wander's taking down one of the Collosi or riding across the empty landscape. It's a nice effect how everything is just so much bigger than Wander.

Holy crap I'd forgotten all about that game, I've wanted to play it again for years but couldnt for the life of me remember what it was called, shame I never will be able to due to the lack of a machine running 95/98..

Yes, Shadow of the Colossus is amazing.

Also, I would say Kingdom Hearts (obviously despite some of the too Disney moments) and Suikoden V (I can forgive the terrible camera).

Oh, continuing my trend of JRPGs I really did like FF XII.... Also, who could forget Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare?

Mass Effect. I liked everything about it, including the Mako.
Please tell me you're lying about the Mako, that thing was horrible. :p
I believe it was Yahtzee who said it handled like "a fat guy on a unicycle". I'd say that was a pretty accurate description it was a nightmare lol.

The moment which sums up how shitty it was is where you need to get into the giant teleporter type whatsit which is about 100 yards away before the timer runs out, with practically nothing in your way other then a ramp and a few rocks. I FAILED IT THE FIRST 5 FUCKING TIMES.

Agreed, it was really prone to randomly diving left or right at the slightest change in pressure on the joystick. OH! Wait I just thought of another one. Its like trying to bounce a football! lol :p.

Epic eh? Well, in terms of story, Half Life (series). You bring aliens and zombie-making aliens into this world, and you have to overthrow their reign to save the planet from their scourge.

If you mean Epic in the proper sense of the word, then Mass Effect takes the throne for sure.

The final hour in particular, stunning stuff.

Then allow me to make your freaking day: You don't need one! Behold the wonders of the Freespace 2 Source Code Project [http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Getting_started]!

Ever since Volition released the source code to the community, enterprising modders have been hard at work updating and improving it extensively - the end result is a version that runs on modern machines and looks like it could have been released a great deal more recently than the decade ago it originally hit shelves.

You really need to see it in action though.

Just scroll down through that page and you'll find all the relevant links to get yourself going with it [small](including a link to Good Old Games should you find yourself needing to buy a copy (for a measly $6))[/small], and that's just the tip of the iceberg as there are a ton of mods and several total conversions of note. The SCP has/is also been/being developed for the Mac OS and Linux, just in case you aren't running Windows at all these days.

Stumbling upon the SCP was one of my happiest days in semi-recent memory, so it's always nice to pass that unmitigated joy along to others.

I don't know if they fixed the controls for the PC or if the non-analog nature of the keyboard interface makes the difference, but I never had that sort of problem controlling the Mako at all (I've played through that section of the game several times now and I never even come close to failing it). The way turning worked was pretty wonky though, since that's not at all how cars operate, but I got used to it.

Epic... Hrm.

Mass Effect, the scope of the world and your overwhelming mission are too much to refuse.

WoW, the vast world is epic, even if you never feel like you're changing anything.

Shadow of The Colossus, you're fighting creatures of epic proportions, and its simply amazing, as each feels different. Imagine taking down the empire state building as a human. Now the empire state building can fly. You've got the idea.

And finally, come on, escapists! Uncharted 2!!! Sure, its a PS3 game, but it plays out like a piece of cinema, unlike WET, however, it manages it, beautifully. Drake travels extreme environments, from war-torn Borneo, to the freezing Himalayas, all of which look gorgeous. The story is great, and compelling, and the locations are all massive and lovingly crafted. Without a doubt, the most epic game I've played
