I think Batman: Arkham Asylum is really up there and if you think not, here is a shining example (a little spoiler this way comes): fighting a Titan induced Joker for the very first time is just... epic. Half Life 2 is pretty heavy in the epic department, but for me, Call of Duty 4 takes the cake. It's like an action movie. Seriously. The first level (not counting the training stage) is already one of the most epic things in gaming history and combine that with an epic story line, epic good guys, epic bad guys, epic levels, epic guns and a truly epic ending, well, I'd say you've got yourself an epic game.

I have a feeling I will get flamed with answers like "They're all the same", etc.

[sub]Oh god I'm burning already[/sub]
Nah, you're probably the least flamable. Hell, a large number consider Ocarina of Time the greatest game ever. (And rightfully so compared to other so called great games I wont mention so not to start trouble...even though I want to kinda)

Brutal Legend. The feel you get and the sights you can see make this the top of my "Epic Games" list.

Freespace 2 is on the second place. The sheer size of it all is enough to put it there.

The original Crash Bandicoot games. To this day Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex strikes back is my favourite game ever. Hell Crash even had the only good party game in existence, Crash Bash. As well as having the best kart racer of all time.

I hate the developers that ruined the Crash games. I wish I could tear off the head of every developer at Radical Entertainment (responsible for the Crash of the Titans and Mind over Mutant garbage) and Travellers Tales (responsible for Twinsanity and the wrath of cortex).

Why the hell hasn't anyone mentioned GOD OF WAR yet? The stories in both GoW 1&2 are my definitions of the word "epic".

The Half-Life series probably. I haven't played the first one, but HL2 and the episodes are pretty epic in my opinion (especially episode 2).

And I have to mention that Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion tries pretty damn hard to be massively epic, but fails miserably. Hell, I find myself not wanting to play the story because I'm torn out of the game the instant I walk too close to a NPC and they spit out their jerky greetings.

Games that are so epic they give me goosebumps when I play(ed) them are :
MGS4 (very nice story wrap up if you ask me)
Valkyria Chronicles (It's just.... awesome)
Demon's Souls (Yeah, you rarely feel more badass than in this game when you take down those menacing bosses)

Onyx Oblivion

Planetside in it's heyday. There's something about being a tiny cog in a huge MMOFPS war machine that is utterly epic.

And the sad thing is, very few people on this forum will have ever played it.

Both of the main Klonoa games, Door to Phantomile and Lunatea's Veil, goes incredibly epic towards the end. But overall, Persona 4, or 3.

All Halos, all MGSs, all Ninja Gaidens, DMCs, the Killzones, and FFs. For some reason none of the Gears of War seemed as epic to me... ironically they're from Epic.
