Have you ever played a game that has such an immense storyline, it has you gripped from beginning to end?
"The Darkness" would be one for me. That game is so under-rated its unbelievable, and you actual feel emotions for the main character, and some other characters. Plus your powers are unbelievable and fun to play with.
And there's a twist at the end of the first chapter that made my sister, who had been following the story, cry as she watched it.
What about you guys?

Well, that would apply to the three Playstation entries in the Final Fantasy series. From the opening moments of VII, to the end of VIII's first disc, and to and through the Black Waltz's attack against the airship in IX, each entry does its best to make a good first impression early on, and never failed to deliver.

Fatal Frame was another immersive game, albeit offering a different kind of 'gripping' quality. It's a truly terrifying game. It's almost unplayable, that's how eerie the damn thing is.

Far Cry 2 got pretty gripping near the end. Peter Jackson's King Kong the Official Game of the Movie was realling gripping as was golden suns storyline.

I love Golden Sun! I hope they do a next gen remake of it, that would be awesome, or a new one altogether! I got stuck on the hurricane boss in the desert on the first one :(

COD4 was pretty gripping as was portal. Because the campinas on both are so short it meant i could play them in one sitting-which kinda adds to immersion fro me. I think that one of the easiest ways to make a game gripping is to find the "perfect" difficulty; where its challenging but your rarely die so it doesn't become frustrating.

EDIT: "it" instead of "i"- "i doesn't become frustrating"

The SMT games (except Persona 4), God of War 1&2, Final Fantasy IX and CS:S. Those come straight to my mind.

The Halo Trilogy, Gears of War 2, Dead Space, Saint's Row 2, Fable, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Portal, Half Life 2, Dead Rising, Oblivion, Otogi and King Kong.

All these gripped me like the tentacles of a hot alien lover.

Majora's Mask for me. You really feel the desperation of the world as the clock ticks down and the doom-laden atmosphere the game exudes really draws you in. By far one of the most under-appreciated Zelda games, and one you never want to stop playing.

KoToR comes to mind immediately. Both of them. The first had the most epic and jaw dropping story line I have ever seen in a game and the second one, while not as good as it's predecessor, was very affective at keeping me interested in what had happened to the main character after the first game. I just wish that they would release an actual sequel to finish it off.

KOTOR II gripped me pretty badly, but I must admit- the C&C series has often hit me with "Just 5 More Minutes" Syndrome- as it has my Dad (he was once up til 3am playing. I know because we had a subwoofer and I could hear every explosion.) I love the cheesy acting- the Red Alert series is my favourite in particular: RA2- Udo Kier plus Ray Wise plus a very very attractive lady as the Russian interface...
