The Halo fanbase. Or at least those on Bungie.net. Steer clear from the Halo Reach forum. Most of it is mostly kids going "Waaaaaah! It's different from Halo 3! They ruined Halo!". And before that it was "Waaaaaah! It's different from Halo 2! They ruined Halo!". And before that... you get the idea. The few threads actually trying to do something gets flooded with trolls, making them unreadable.
True.

I miss the days when the Bungie forums were free from this shit, and we all were polite.

The.nice people are all in the community form now.

SONIC FANS.

I mean, really, they're insane. For every moderate/intelligent fan like me is feels like there are a dozen haters, seven 2d-elitists who think saying "eggman" instead of "robotnick" is a crime against humanity, 2 sonic-hat wearing fanboys and 4 horny furry fanfic writers! >_<

A lot of fans are self entitled, whiney bitches, and are only ever satisfied if a sequal ends up being exactly like it's predecessor. Just looks at the whole DA2 mess.

The game is more streamlined.

"Nuhuh! It's dumbed down for the console tards!"

Character archetypes are not as important, so it's not as necessary to always have a 2 mage 1 tank set up, the same level of tactics is still required at higher levels.

"Nuhuh! It's just easier!"

The dialogue wheel streamlines conversation, making a more fun engaging conversation system.

"WAAAAAAAAAAAAH! DRAGON EFFECT 2! WAAAAAAAAH!"

I could do this all day...
I'm playing through DA2 right now currently as a femHawke mage. I also played through as a Rogue. I'm loving this game just as much as the first at the very least. There are a few areas that disappoint me, but all of the hate is largely undeserved. That's why I must quote you for the truth because you speak it! BioWare fans seem to be an impossible lot to please, it seems. There are a few exceptions, though. I've been happy with everything BioWare has put out the last years. Played through the Mass Effect series, Dragon Age series, KOTOR, Baldur's Gate, etc. I must say that I have a tendency to enjoy the sequel moreso than the first. DA2 and ME2 have far more engaging characters, funner gameplay, and much better story. At least, for me. The dialogue wheel is also a welcome addition for me.

Clearly, you've never been to DeviantArt. I think you mean twenty-five horny furry fanfic writers for every moderate fan.

The Sonic fanbase and Final Fantasy fanbase. I have never met any fans that are more whiny than these two.

Everyone's already put what I was going to put.

So... Yahtzee fanbase? Or maybe even Yahtzee himself. I dunno.

The whole "Dragon Age 2 mess" has nothing to do with fanboyts, but rather everything to do with the fact that the game was mediocre at best. In fact, i didn't even like DA:O "that" much, and i still consider DA2 a complete sh*t game in comparison because i can see it for what it is: An attempt to keep a profit-ball rolling while cutting as many corners as possible (and then some).

Huge difference between a game that wasn't like fanboys expected it to be (but is still good by general objective standards) and a game that was expected to be good, but happened to be mediocre/bad. The latter can get even non-fanboys annoyed because everyone can get disappointed by something they've bought, even if it isn't something they're a "fan" of.

RPG fans- any attempt at innovation is instantly and inherently bad.

Any developer who tries it is lambasted for "selling out" and if you have the audacity to like the game in question thne your a terrible, childish casual.

Older RPG fans.

If they don't get EXACTLY what they want EXACTLY the way they want they start burning D&D 4.0 books and effigies outside the office of whoever pissed them off in protest.

Considering that what they want is generally terrible for anyone who isn't an older RPG fan, it happens a lot. Kind of silly, mostly disappointing.

Pokemon...many people are not happy with the current gen, i personally love it.

COD is another one...but to be fair it is the Devs fault... (looks over at Activision with an evil look)
Activision is the publisher. The devs are Treyarch and Infinity Ward.

The fanbase around Team Fortress 2, no matter what, someone will ***** about a new item, map or game mode release.

Yes, that does include the charity hats.
I knew they were bad, but complaining about hats whose proceeds 100% support disaster relief is a new low. Thanks TF2 fanbase! (That being said, the game still rocks)

Any RPG fanbase. If so much as one thing is changed, it goes like this "THEY'VE LOST THEIR WAY!! THEY HAVE FORGOTTEN US!!! DAMN YOU "insert game company here"!!!!!"

There is no kind of Fanatic that is really pleasable by something that isnt the exact same thing as what they did like at first. Thats why everything new is just wrong to them. Fans are stupid.

If not, they're not fans.

Thoughts?
Agreed. This is also why I don't get the hate on "Sonic fans". News flash: They aren't fans if they hate everything SEGA has done with the character since 2000. What, am I a Square Enix fan because I hate everything they've ever developed ever? Don't think so, not with the true definition of fan.

Mass Effect fans. While Bioware has been getting really dickish in how they talk to people on their forums Mass Effect fans won't stop at anything to *****. "Why did they do that? Why is this like that. Where is my old squad. Cameos suck. Fuck cause I wouldn't have done that."

They are never happy.
Probably going to have to go with this, but only over the bitching of the base Mass Effect 2. All that nonsense about how ME2 wasn't an RPG because they streamlined things so you can spend more time playing and less time melting down the piles and piles and fucking piles of useless items you picked up so the game would stop yelling at you that you're running out of space to put more useless items. If you want to spend more time not playing the game, feel free to hit pause and just stare at the menu for 10 minutes at random intervals. I, on the other hand, appreciate the new emphasis on being able to PLAY THE DAMN GAME.

DLC on the other hand though... Sorry but Bioware just stinks on that, and they generally deserve that hate. Arrival was almost as bad as Pinnacle Station. People love the games because of all their elements put together, and releasing a pack that just says "here go shoot stuff for an hour with none of the other elements that made our game a best seller" is understandably going to get you some negative feedback. And Lair of the Shadow Broker is pretty much considered the best by just about everyone because it does have it all: it truly is more of Mass Effect instead of more of just a part of Mass Effect.

Nope, you're just confusing different people to be the same one.
No, that's the frightening part. I'm not. lol
While you may have seen a handful of people being inconsistent in their criticisms of FO3 and FO:NV, you conclude the fanbase in inconsistent.

Firstly, the most critical views on these two games do NOT come from fans, but from detractors. Some of them may have been fans of former BIS, who made FO1&2, but that doesn't make them fans of Bethesda.
Secondly, different people can like and dislike different things. Lumping everyone in the audience together doesn't make sense, as you have found out.

The World of Warcraft fanbase. Seriously, try reading there forums sometime, I swear at leats half of the first page is complaints about one thing or another.

So by that logic, it's wither a terrible game or the community (Or the forum community anyway) paradoxicaly pays £15 a month for a product they don't like.

This thread restored my faith in the escapist community :D

OT: Worst fanbase that Ive encountered is the halo fanbase. You cant say a single negative thing without having em at your throat. Once asked a fair question regarding what made halo unique story wise (since I hadnt played it then), and the whole thing afterwards was just hate and calling me a MW fanboy (I dont even own a MW game, and see no relation between halos story and MWs story). After 2 pages of hate, one sane fan explained it to me.

Another is the WoW fanbase. Most are generally sane, but theres 20-30% thats never satisfied:

-Easy to get gear: "OMG free epix for noobs shit game!"
-Hard to get gear: "Goddamn grindfest of a game!"
-Class beats them in PvP: "Nerf rock! Paper is fine though"
-Fun moments in story: "Lore fail!"

The best WoW-whine is "vanilla was so much better than all the expansions!" (for those who dont know; vanilla is what WoW is called when referring to when max lvl was 60 and the game was a mess of unbalance and luck). Vanilla was ok, but mainly because we didnt know better :D All the quests were just "kill x enemies" or "get y items from enemies", nothing else. Whoever finds vanilla better than any of the expansions have a strange definition of "fun" and "balance"...
Gah ninja'd with moar text!

the sonic fanbase, they complain about everything that happens in the games,
This. They are the only fan base that I've ever seen create huge amounts of rage about the protagonist's eye colour.

Though I have to say that Sega created their own monster. They spoiled us with brilliant games in the beginning and use that to build our hopes up before knocking us down. Do that enough times and your entire fan base becomes bitter and cynical very quickly.

My general opinion of the vocal portion of the gamer community is this: "Waaaaaaaaahhhhhh, the game isn't how I would make it, so it sucks and no one else should like it"

"And therefore we should organize ourselves and make our voice heard! We deserve better games! We deserve better! We DESERVE"
