the jackhammer on unreal tournament. you can't get close enough to melee. i have killed 2 people with, both bots, both on easy. what's the point
the alt fire for it disables vehicles

Im gonna say most swords from rpg games, so many of them would be just horrible weapons, either too big to cut right or designed in such a way as to be too light for the type of sword they are or made in such a way as to break very easily
Certaily most JRPG's have that problem. Western RPG's tend to suffer less from this (certainly intentionally, the msitakes seem to be more graphics errors, rather than intentionally making them, like alot of modern JRPG's seem to)

As much as I love the Jak and Daxter games... I've always found the punch attack to be redundant. I mean by pressing circle you do a spin kick which does the same damage, and can hit more then one enemy... And once or twice the punch attack has moved me forward and made me fall off a cliff or something.. Doesn't take away from the game experience...

Also, Kratos's swords from God of War (Chains of olympus anyway... not sure about the others...). Pressing square and Triangle certainly make some cool combos... but pressing circle (or as Yatzee said, 'The Fuck You button') you can instanly kill the weaker enemies... which gets rid of the point of the other two buttons as well as some of the fun...

Genis's ball-in-a-cup thing (I think it's called a Kendama) from Tales of Symphonia.

The thing looks ridiculous. Your basically hitting the enemy with a child's toy (and the damage it deals represents this). Genis is a mage though, so his weapons pitiful power doesn't really matter. Now you might assume that Genis some how improves his magic by channeling it through the Kendama. Why a Kendama would be useful for this is beyond me. Then you notice that nobody else does this. Most characters that use magic, both enemy and ally, are seen using staffs typical to RPGs. Other times they don't even have a weapon. So this raises the question as to why Genis uses the ridiculous Kendama when almost every other mage opts to use staffs and similar weapons.

My theory is that he has the Kendama to entertain himself while casting incredibly long spells.

OT: Wakka. Final Fantasy 10. He throws balls.
I can't decide which is more absurd; the legendary Kendamas in Tales of Symphonia or the legendary blitzballs in Final Fantasy 10. Both make you wonder about who actually decided to make these things and why they are hidden inside dungeons/carried by enemies.

Bringing a massive 60lb sword to a gun fight... And win...

This goes for many games...

Oh yeah.
Or a 60lb (war) Umbrellas, same situation.

TF2, community update: The Pyro's "Homewrecker." Who is their right mind would use it instead of flaming buildings 'til they melt into scrap?!

Honestly, I think the plasmids from Bioshock. Imagine, if you will:

You're out for a lovely date in Arcadia with Susie. You throw out your arm to gesture and something, and accidentally unleash a swarm of buzzing bees that proceed to attack your date.

You're at a nice little jazz club in Fort Frolic when the band strikes up a lively tune. You start to snap your fingers in time with the music, which abruptly stops as the trombonist is engulfed in flames.

Any other fun scenarios you can think of? We could have some fun with this!

That black hole gun in ME2. it works well against regular enemies, yeah, but it has a long charge up and is entirely useless against mechs and bosses, the things big guns are for.
Cain is the best big weapon!!

I'd have to say the soldier's shovel in TF2. It's just too ridiculous, but I love it. :D There's nothing better than humiliating someone by smashing him in the face with a shovel. But still.. a shovel! The only other ridiculous weapon I can think of is a frying pan.

The Boomerang. It is a completely impracticable and inefficient weapon. Hope in FFXIII seems to agree as he never ever uses it, apart from stealth attacks if you're playing as him.

The Ping Pong gun from Wild Guns. It shoots ping pong balls. It does no damage at all. Game is awesome, though.

Melee weapons in Team Fortress 2. Especially the Pyro's Fireax. Having a class specify in close range be given a weapon that has much shorter range, and slower firing speed compared to the Flamethrower... and the Flamethrower sets people on fire too!

But melee is overall useless in the game because:
1. Each class has at least one weapon were they can turn you into Swiss cheese while you uselessly run at them
2. The range detection is bad, especially with the Eyelander
3. Each melee weapon swings at the slowest speeds imaginable
4. They don't do much damage compared to most guns in the game

It isn't a weapon, but I would say Bo' Rai Cho from Mortal Kombat has the most impractical attack I have ever seen. He throws up on the fighting stage. He uses puke... as an attack.

The Frozen Tuna in Shadow Hearts 2 and the Cactus in Shadow Hearts 3, I have a feeling there was some more ridiculous weapons in those games, but I can't remember what they were.
