I know this isnt quite as lame, but in Resident Evil 4 I found it weird how you have to clear an entire section of the game in which you kill probably about 6 or 7 ganados before you get the basic guide in the game. Like hunnigan sends you the controls to teach you how to play... after you HAD TO HAVE KNOWN HOW TO PLAY TO PROCEED. sigh...

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure thats what happens >.>

Hint: You should really know what you're doing by now. (In Act V of Hellgate London)

Dead Space and how you want to aim for the limbs instead of the head. Not THAT obvious, but they sure did love to tell you about it. They had a whole demo celebrating the fact, it's written on the wall in blood after you get your first gun, you find an audio log telling you to do it, and then one of the other characters calls you up just in case you hadn't heard.

Yes Dead Space, I GET THE MESSAGE.

Modern RPG instruction manuals still labeling the A button. It does EVERYTHING except move, and even sometimes it does that!

"your health is low you should drink a potion" or variation
i hate that one...or a beeping noise. Like the flashing health bar, decreased speed and limp wasn't enough?

the gernade indicator is also annoying...

'Press A to climb ladder/open chest/swing over gap/open door/pretty much any-damn-thing' in Enchanted Arms, among other games.
I loved that, he walks straight up to a ladder and says "Well! Guess it's a dead end." and they take time explaining how he doesn't comprehend ladders and how to use them...

Really good game though.

I love to laugh at all the unhelpful tips that a game offers you. My favourite has to be from Army of Two: "You can die in combat"

So, what's the most laughably obvious thing a game has ever told you?
yeah, that was meant as a joke I think
although it was the most funny thing in the whole game :p

OT: "press the use key, to use"
and my reply is WHERE IS MY USE KEY!!!

Isn't it usually called the action button?

Ah, the elusiveness of the action button...

'To open the chest, use the action button'

*tries every button, thus resetting the game three time before finally working out that it's @.*
no, I was talking about the original Half Life, it's E if I remember correctly...
