Use right trigger to shoot is a favourite of mine. Especially when it's displayed after having played for three hours.

I'd probably say the extremely repetitive tutorial pop-ups in Path of Neo, (they pause the game and often get shown twice for no reason) but the tutorial in Kingdom Hearts 2 is just redundant. I'd much rather have the option of a tutorial then just get on with advancing the story.

In 'Splosion man, it tells you hall to wall 'Splode in the second level.

When you need to wall 'Splode in the first.
Well with splosion man being the game it is, that seems more like a joke at stupid tips than being a stupid tip.

Also "Medics can revive teammates."

"You were killed by an exploding car. CARS ON FIRE ARE LIKELY TO EXPLODE." NO REALLY? It's even stupider than the grenade one.

Anyone here play Gunstar Heroes? At one point, after you select the mine cart level, the good doc tells you to 'Be Agressive'. Oh yeah, because I had every intention of trying to avoid killing in this level.

'Press A to climb ladder/open chest/swing over gap/open door/pretty much any-damn-thing' in Enchanted Arms, among other games.

In most PC FPS tutorials: Mouse to look around.
Didn't we stop using the arrow keys in 1994?

Anyone remember Koudelka? The developers went on to create the Shadowhearts series.

Koudelka was an early PS1 game, one of the first console - based adventure games with relatively realistic graphics. So, it was no longer necessary for the producers to explain what the various things on the screen were, as players could now see it for themselves.

The Koudelka producers had failed to take this into consideration.

I'm exploring a room, I see a cupboard, and decide to take a look inside. I'm low on healing items, and figure there might be some inside. I examine the cupboard, and get a close - up of its door, accompanied by the following message:

"You see a cupboard."

OK. Fine. I quickly click the message away, eager to get at the goodies. It is instantly replaced with a new message:

"Do you want to open the cupboard? Yes/No"

Getting annoyed, I hit "Yes", and am treated to a close - up of the cupboard's contents. Which turns out to be A MUMMIFIED CORPSE WEARING A WEDDING DRESS! Keep in mind that I was expecting to find goodies or some sort of quest item - I nearly have a heart attack!

I vaguely notice that another message has appeared, and spend the next minute or so trying to calm myself down enough to focus on it.

Eventually I succeed, and read the message. It says:

"Inside the cupboard is a mummified corpse wearing a wedding dress."

DUH!

The sheer uselessness and idiocy of the message pisses me off bigtime, and I quickly click it away, eager to be done with the whole idiotic business and move on. Immediately, ANOTHER message pops up:

"The corpse suddenly attacks."

Yeah. I was actually getting mad at the damn GAME at this point: "Sorry, bud, no health for you, here's a boss fight!" Hooray.

(To be fair, defeating the corpse DID get me a quest item!)

I don't know specific games, but it's got to the point where I find a stash of weapons and health and just think "Oh great... Boss battle time."

Pretty much any game which has you playing as a top-trained spec-ops soldier of any kind, but still feels like pulling you through the basics (Splinter Cell, I'm looking at you!)
