On Lion & Tiger enclosures at zoos, signs that read something like:

"Warning these animals may bite. Do not attempt to climb into the enclosure or put any part of your body through the fence"

A saw a sign on a fence that read:

"WARNING ANTI-VANDAL PROOF PAINT"

I know what vandal proof paint is, but what does this mean? How does the paint stop anti-vandals? Does it prevent the police from climbing the fence when chasing graffiti artists?

The coffee was in violation of health codes for being, yes, too hot. It was effectively able to give her (and any else who happened to spill it) second degree burns. The store in question had been visited by a Health Inspector repeatedly regarding that very issue. The store never made any adjustments, and when the impending burn occurred, the store was very much at fault for causing burns much more dangerous then they otherwise would have been.
While it did break "health and saftey" it was still a fair amount UNDER the recommended serving temperature. And yes when served coffee SHOULD be able to give you second degree burns, however the trick here is to not spill it on yourself...

I would not call that label pointless. Most of those warnings are "Do not step beyond the safety rail or go near the cage." It may sound pointless at first look, but there are many tourists and children, especially, that climb over the railing or go nearer to the enclosure to have their picture taken. All it serves to do is irritate and stress the animal. Then you have cases like the tourist who sat next to a panda exhibit and subsequently lost his jacket when the panda ran over and grabbed him, or the child who fell into the gorilla cage. More recently there were some teenagers who went into a tiger exhibit at night for one dumb reason or another and the tiger of course attacked them - the tiger being the one who was shot down and killed because it got free due to the teens.

So yes, I do not find that one pointless.

Someone brought up the "Seizure" label on games far earlier in the thread. I find that that label is fairly important as well. Many people do not know they will have issues with the fast action and blinking lights. Some don't think much about it. I actually appreciate the epilepsy label on Nintendo packages, which go into far more detail of the symptoms than Sony or Microsoft.

I personally enjoy the American Halloween hang-noose label: "This product is not to be used to hang family, friends, or humans, pets, animals, or any living being." Which was more recently enforced, I had found through a friend, because some child in America attempted to pull a stunt of hanging himself to scare others, then died when people thought he was acting.

Caution do not cook food in tent.
Caution do not hold fire to tent.
My dad, being a firefighter, has told me too many stories of people burning their houses down by grilling on their porch, or even taking the grill inside, when it starts raining to blow that one off as unnecessary. :)

Best one on a packet of peanuts "may contain traces of nuts"
That's just super
That's my favourite, I saw that one too.

This wasn't a warning label (more of a "serving suggestion") but it made me laugh. On a pack of Sainsbury's basics bananas it said "Bananas: Great when peeled".

Hey this is my first post =]

The "do not consume iPod" label on the iPod shuffle box. That tells me some bugger ate one before =/
The allergy warning on some British egg boxes that says "May contain eggs"
This one isn't pointless or stupid but i cried with laughter when i opened a packet of crisps and on the packet it said "Produced in a factory that handles nuts" ....Who works there? Elton John?
I'm gonna cry foul on this one, some nut allergies can be triggered if the product EVER came in contact with Nuts, hence if the crisp was processed on equipment that ALSO handles nuts, it could trigger an attack, hence a warning is occasionally necessary.

may contain nuts on a pack of nuts is still the best.

umm..contents may be hot on something you've got to heat up/cook is a good one two.

A letter opener that has the caution: "safety goggles recommended" made me chuckle too.

On a Desiccator (Sachets to demoisturise air in things like microwaves)
"Do not eat"
This means at some point someone must of been thick enough to actually eat one of them.
That's pretty low.

I haven't seen this my self in person, but I've heard it numerous times when this subject has been discussed.

In the "instructions for use" -handbook for a microwave oven:

"Never attempt to dry small children or pets using the microwave oven. Attempting such may result in serious injuries and/or death."

Kinda makes you wonder how stupid some people really are...
And I even heard on the news (a few months ago I think it was), that somewhere in the states someone accidentally killed their infant child by doing just this.

Seriously! WTF!?

On Guitar Hero 3 - "Rated 'T' for 'lyrics'."
Not 'suggestive lyrics' or 'obscene lyrics', just 'lyrics'... though I'd rather it be rated 'M' with the nice display of Lars Umlaut's tits smeared all over the cover art.

Also, SWAT recruits get a flashlight / concealed blade that says on the instructions:
"Keep out of reach of children. Aim away from eyes and face."

Also, I remember seeing on a Nintendo DS card's instruction manual (can't remember which):
"CHOKING HAZARD: Small children should not swallow this game."
