ITT: People saying their favourite video game characters then trying to justify it.

Kratos, man can't die, and kills gods without using any cheap tactics. He just BRUTALISES them.

My vote is for Kane from Command an Conquer.

He's been hit with an Ion cannon, buried under a ruined nuclear missile bunker, disappeared for years at a time, subtly manipulate world governing bodies AND super advanced aliens, and inspire millions of people to do his bidding in crazy schemes that always work just how he wants them to.
I want to know how he disappear for several years, and comes back looking the same, I mean Kane, and the actor who plays him, seriously, he hasn't changed in any way over a decade.

Mine would be Gordon Freeman. Able to compute difficult problems in his head AND swing a crowbar for a lethal blow.

I pick him!
I genuinely do not understand peoples obsession with Gordon Freeman as being powerful. Hes really not, hes just a dude in a hazmat suit with some guns? Hes not different or more powerful then any other character that is just a man.
The man can be blown to bits by explosives, gunned down by bullets, sliced by blades, electrocuted, vaporized by balls of energy.
But, the idea that he embodies, the idea that his visage indicates...that, my friend, is bulletproof, and holds powers beyond any single man on any of the pages of this thread.

Super Mega Death Christ 2000 BC Version 3.0 Beta would totally kick its ass.

PAPER BEATS ROCK MY FRIEND.

Also, for "most powerful videogame character" I'd have to say G-Man, as he seems pretty much omnipotent.

Kyle Katarn if you pick the dark-side ending for Dark Forces II. While never shown on screen, it's said by an NPC that he who taps into the power of the Valley of the Jedi will be able to cause:
"A supernova of stars in a fleeting thought. The eradication of life from a star system IN A WHISPER will BE within his power."
I would like to see Mr. Mercer survive *that*.

Id from Xenogears, Magus from Chrono Trigger, Dante from Devil May Cry... There are really tons of them.

If it's the most powerful FEELING character, The Punisher or Agent 47 always seemed like gods among men in their respective games. I mean, anyone who comes within arms reach of Frank is pretty much instantly dead. Or being tortured.

You, in the sims. You can create life by choosing to make a new person and destroy it by being a dick. You shape the existence of poor hapless souls with your very whims. You are essentially god and nobody beats god power.

Actually, scratch that, you from black and white. True god powers, GO!

Hmm - I found I felt pretty impotent when playing B&W - you're a God, yes. But your divine powers are restricted to an arbitary circle around your temple, all your powers are funded by your followers' worshipping, and your chief agent of your will has every form of neurosis in the book.

Dante of DMC. Why? He can survive wounds that would kill normal men, has a demonic state, increased speed and strength, heightened senses, the ability to master any weapon, no matter if its a gun or sword, he gets his hands on in a matter of seconds. And also, all his guns have UNLIMITED AMMO!! <P

Pretty much too broad of a question to answer, but here's my best shot. First, anything that has its roots primarily outside of video games I think should be disqualified, that kicks out any comic book, movie, or television show characters. I'm also defining "Most powerful" as, able to overcome any situation. Lastly, anyone who can be outright permanently defeated can't be the most powerful. Which means I have to go with, The Prince, from the Prince of Persia series for his ability to rewind time and redo everything until he gets it right the first attempt.

True, your heavy hitters like Kratos can fight their way back out of Hades, or Alex Mercer seems to just keep coming back, but they are still beaten long enough for whatever goal they were attempting to achieve or event they were trying to prevent has passed them by or been completed respectively. Where as, the Prince always gets it right the first try, well the first try that counts as far as history is concerned.

Time manipulation is always the best trump card.

Cthulhu. Why? Because it's Cthulhu. Or maybe generic builder unit. Face it, you couldn't win without them. Or maybe the priests from Age of Empires.

The tradeoff is, they shoot blue-tac and balls of fluff. Or so it seems, based on the damage they do. (Thank you Yahtzee for the bastardised quote)

The Nameless One from Planescape:Torment.

The entire dimension was created for him, he literally can't die (and kills himself routinely just to prove a point), is a few millenia old, has managed to piss off a couple of actual Gods and survived their attempts at retribution....
