Hmm...UN-original? I don't think the United Nations has made any original games. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Unless you count meddling in countries a game...

Saints Row 2,

A GTA clone without shame that improves on its own systems so well that it's almost a better game than GTA 4. It doesn't have an original bone in its body though.
But its a good game, i'm hoping for a SR3 i love the wackyness mixed with the occasonal drama

well i'd say that Killzone 2 is pretty damn unoriginal...
Agreed.

Gasp, as the scenery bores you to tears. Coo, as the voice-acting leaves you with a feeling of emptiness. Weep with despair at the sheer unoriginality.
...Does this really have to be limited to Killzone 2, or are we all just saying that because it is a popular ps3 exclusive that just came out?

*sigh* Get ready for a bunch of Halo bashing, even though the original was unique for it's time.
I'd like to disagree with that, but that isn't the point of this topic. Anyways, I'd say any sports game such as Madden would be the most unoriginal. It's the same game every time.
"Unique" might be a strong term, but I think we can agree that games of that type (not FPSs, just FPSs of that type) were a bit less ubiquitous at the time.
True. However, I personally don't see the popularity of that kind of FPS a good thing, but that's all subjective.
Never said it was a good thing. All I was saying is that, for it's time, the original Halo was fairly original.

Most unoriginal?

I'd say just about anything that has come out in the last 3 years;
-space marines aplenty
-WWII never ends
-RTS genre still pretty cookie-cutter
-'survival horror' that are just lame action games
-no good writing whatsoever
-horrible remakes
-way too many stagnent sequels with way too big of numbers at the end

and most other aspects of what makes a good game ignored to produce bloated graphics engines that make the world into nothing but bloomy, HDRified, brown/grey boringness

Hmmm well without reading all the pages here I would personally say that it's hard to pick a single title, so instead I will give a general answer:

#1: The single worst offenders to lack of originality is probably any one of the legions of Diablo clones that come and go through the budget software shelves more or less unnoticed and unloved. Basically "hey let's do something generic with swords, elves, and flashy magical lights, and we'll have monsters that will run straight at the player's icon, die when they click on it, and explode in piles of randomly generated magical loot". Honestly I've seen enough of these over the years that it seems like the developers aren't even trying.

#2: The second worst offenders are low end (Usually Korean) MMORPGs. You know those free to play games which are basically generic fantasy, featuring the horrible anime-esque graphics only slightly more advanced than a SNES game where everyone looks like a bobblehead in the back window of some Puerto Rican's low rider. :p

I give these second because they occasionally show some ingenuity in concept, though ultimatly they tend to exist to get people to pay money for cheats, or to buy special outfits for their 8 to 16 bit looking Avatar.

Something Awful used to run a section called MMO Roulette, I don't think they do it anymore, but still have it archived. But if you want to see some of the most Lulz worthy attempts at MMOs ever check it out, some of them are pretty original though. My "favorite" was the revelation that apparently someone created a "prison life" MMO where you play a prisoner in jail and shank people and stuff. It apparently failed, but wow... I'll at least give the idea points for originality which is why I can't bust all of these fly by night games as unoriginal (despite their horridness).

apparently you do not understand. shields=body armor(regenerating was the only idea halo had, and it ended up fucking the entire FPS genre up), vehicles have been in older games, its honestly a shitty rip off of GTA games, with an even shittier story that was COMPLETELY wrapped up with the first game (discounting 343 guilty spark living) they had no questions unanswered to work off of
Yeah, whoopty freakin' doo, BODY ARMOR. That was like, only used in WW2, and was never used in anything before or after that because like, it was like, only used in like, WW2, and stuff. Regenerating health didn't "fuck up" the FPS genre, hell, even Deus Ex had it. It was just that running for health packs every time you finish a firefight wasn't really that convenient in many shooters, and has actually improved most of the games it was implemented correctly (In which the game would regenerate health to a certain extent only, or if it was a shield that covered the health bar). One question: Have you ever played a GTA game? Because how anybody could even draw a comparison between two games with entirely different viewpoints and settings (Not to mention different gameplay elements) is beyond me unless the guy in question cannot distinguish between anything.

P.S. You seriously need to work on spelling and punctuation.
P.P.S. Do you seriously think Halo's story was "shitty?" There are far more "shitty" stories than Halo's, and it did in fact lend itself to sequels, since the war was not even finished. There is a rich amount of backstory, and it wasn't even about Earth until the second game, and even then only for a brief period of time.

Dead Space, a game that couldn't decide whether to rip off more from Alien or from RE4. Having said that, I'm probably the only person on the planet who *didn't* like it, so I await the rebuttals.

It's okay, i thought it was lame as well.

Halo did borrow a lot from Half Life so I can see why people would mention Halo.

Having said that though when you think about new games and the games from the past nearly every single modern day game has borrowed something from an older counterpart.

Some of the highest rated games this generation like Mass Effect, Gears of War 2, Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction, Grand Theft Auto 4 are carbon copies of their predecessors in many ways.

You have to question whether this is a bad thing thought we did have a lot of great games in the past that could do with a little tweaking or a new lick of paint instead of reinventing the wheel.

you are an idiot. i have no grammatical mistakes in my part, while you obviously are incompetent. the backstory to halo just sets up the first game, and when you have one guy obliterate an entire section of your army single-handedly, you fucking run as far away as possible, then the covenant just shows up at earth for the ring there, and get curbstomped by MC again. Halo's entire story sucks and was poorly set up. it made sense for one game, but honestly for a long term storyline, just fell apart immediately. if you say that Halo has a rich amount of backstory (fully pointless, games open alot with untold intros that would simply make you want to kill yourself if you had to learn about them), you need to apply a deerslug to your face.

Body armor has been in most every shooter (some dont, and ever since regenerative has become the popular choice, has been removed from those games).

Vehicles in shooters come from GTA 1, and you obviously are blind, because shooters have near identical gameplay styles always, doesnt matter if its first, second (over the shoulder), or third person, they are all the same.

Halo's storyline blows compared to the almost nonexistent backstory of Unreal Tournament 2004 Editors Choice edition, the greatest single multiplayer FPS ever made. Halo is like trying to put a rotten storyline on the original Doom, it doesnt fucking work.

and for your information, I have played every single GTA game excluding The Lost and Damned, Halo 1 and 3, Halflife 1, blue shift, Opposing Force, 2, Portal, UT 1, 2003, 2004 EC, and 3, GoW, GoW2, Gears2 (i have read aspho fields also), Resident Evil 4, 007 from russia with love, Max Payne 1+2, CoD5 (with much regret), Quake 3 arena, Doom 2, True Crime: Streets of LA, Red Faction, and other FPS games that i cant name, so dont tell me what i know and dont know, i have sampled the ultimate variety of shooters (i would go into a much larger list, but im too lazy to list non shooters in this after the God of War games)

Red Ninja. It's whole premise was "Tenchu, except with more panty shots and less playability." X Blades sounds like it did the same thing with God of War.

And I'm playing Mass Effect right now, not seeing the unoriginality, especially when put up next to the above games. It's not THE most unique, but not a clone or rip-off of anything, either.
