half-life 2. Nothing new there, except maybe the most over-rated story and gameplay ever.

*waits for the shit-storm*
The gravity gun? I don't know of any games before Half-Life 2 that allowed you to use the physics engine as such an effective weapon.

Please, correct me if I'm wrong.

Any call of duty? they are all the same.
Pretty much every FPS copies either Wolfenstein 3d, Doom, Quake or half life

i dont give a crap on forums where only 50-60 people are going to see it. Halo is of pretty low quality. Gears was not ripped off from halo, its the only game where the enemies were always there, they just were never known to be there because they lived too far below the surface. that storyline foundation as far as i know, has never been done. its awlays some bio-engineered super-plague if its from earth, an alien army, or some other threat
Actually, they were biologically engineered soldiers. Remember the sires? And Mount Kadar did not appear to be especially deep to conceal the Locust.

Halo's story is terrible, with the only thing keeping you from vomiting are the graphics. you say aspho fields is shit? i had a harder time reading the script for Halo 2+3 because they are so fucking poorly writen.
Funny, I could say the same for the script of the entire Gears of War series.

"Gah! I miss my wife emo melodrama etc."

"Let's blow shit up!"
"OMG t3h locust were a genetical experimentz! Evil AI wants to kill us!"

"We won, bitches!"
the script for Gears of war works, but because it was written around the game.
aspho fields is writen to make sence without any visuals, while Gears of War needs them because its a script where the charicters have large sections of movement and combat. seeing only a transcript of the spoken lines in cutseens and ingame tac/com for Gears of War doesnt make sence, while the cutscenes for Halo almost entirely make sence without the interludes of combat.

one of the problems of halo is it doesnt treat Master chief as a highly respected soldier, it treats him as a fucking god, where the most damage he takes is a shot in his left arm. Master chief is in the first game, 1 of only a few hundred survivors, only 16 of which at most are human, while in the third he is the only human to survive the test firing of halo 07B, along with the arbiter (who in singleplayer is immortal).

i respect Gears of War because it doesnt treat these soldiers as nigh immortal bastions of strenght that other soldiers follow, it treats them as men, and the locust know that. an entire part of Aspho Fields revolves around how intelligent and crafty the locust are, using a false push towards where the primary "farming" areas are, so they can bait a large portion of the army to a trap so that they can kill off the soldiers 1 by 1. the covenant isnt that intelligent, they go chasing around master chief so that maybe one of the cannon fodder soldiers they are so good at using might kill him. the covenant doesnt do anything in a logical sence, while the locust know what they are doing. locust guard areas of high importance with troops, low importance with living bombs, and control trade routes with wolf/locust crossbreads. they genetically made the Brumak from a chimp, while being able to design effective weaponry. the locust may not have short range space flight, but that is because they never really had any control of areas that are good for launching spacecraft.

The sires in the new hope research facility are only treated as locust for the sake of horde mode. yes, maria could have been removed from the game, but she was added to make the unsaid point that everyone has had to suffer because of the locust.

mount kadar is a short tunnel under a large mountain, the chapter that happens entirely in the tank covers miles, it just doesnt seem it because you are traveling in a monster truck. if you watch the end cutscene of Gears of War 2, the nexus is only about a half mile (if even) tall cave directly underneath the granite slab of Jacinto Plateau. most of the cavern carved out by the exploding brumak.

if you watched the end of Gears of War 2, you would also know that the victory over the locust could barely be considered even a pyrric victory. both sides lost so much in the final battles that both sides might as well have been considered to only have had incredibly failures and losses, with both sides losing both their main bases and safe areas, and massive population culling absolutely decimated both populations.

BTW: Cole Train isnt a charicter, that is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lester_Speight, and what he does best is be awesome

I have to ask, why does it have to be innovative or original to be fun? Why does everything have to push the envelope of what games can do?

As for my answer, pretty much every Zelda after the NES era.

I think Killzone 2 wins this on by a landslide. US Marines in spaceships from Starship Troopers versus anime Nazis using contemporary weaponry in a series of breathtakingly original setpieces all stolen from Quake 4.
