Purely subjective of course; here's some of mine. Feel free to post yours.

NINETY-NINE NIGHTS: There are certain genres that rarely review well, and one of them seems to be the action-RPG button-masher. This game got trashed by the critics, and certainly in fairness it is a repetitive, often mindless game, full of bad voice acting and home to more than one unfortunate programming decision. That said, I LOVED THIS GAME. Dashing down into a distance-blurred-but-rapidly-focusing onslaught of hundreds upon hundreds of enemies, turning yourself into a colorful tornado of blades, fire, and magic blasts, and watching the ragdoll corpses hurtle off confetti-like by the dozens -- is pure, bright, eye-popping, arcade-style fun. I also love games where there are tons of character customization options (as well as numerous selectable characters), and hundreds of random items to collect and tinker with. I know not all of them make that big of a difference really, and that many aren't necessary at all, but it's just one of those things I enjoy. The graphics in this fairly early 360 release are also quite beautiful, and even if the stages overall lack a little imagination, the game has an atmosphere that wins me over. I can laugh off the goofy story and atrocious voice acting -- I play games for the fun of playing games, not for a great plot, so that aspect doesn't bother me. What does bother me is when they encumber a fantasy game with an obnoxious neu-metal rock soundtrack, so N3 also gets points for a tasteful, ambient/pseudo-orchestral score, which even includes some Vivaldi. There's no question this is not a game for everyone, but all I can say is I played it start to finish, maxing out all 7 characters and beating the game, and I had an absolute blast (pretty much) the whole time.

My love of this game despite the poor reviews makes me think I need to give KINGDOM UNDER FIRE: CIRCLE OF DOOM and maybe even DARK MESSIAH OF MIGHT AND MAGIC a chance. I didn't pay much attention to them on release due to poor reviews, but I tried the demo to KUF earlier tonight, and I think it might actually be up my alley.

TWO WORLDS: This game was similarly demolished by the critics, and it's a damn shame, because a somewhat sluggish frame rate aside, I think it's easily as good as Oblivion, and in some respects, better. One of the key problems with this game is that it makes a terrible first impression. From the get-go everything about it screams "B-grade game"; jaw-droppingly cheesy opening music, laughably bad voice acting, an initially confusing menu and interface system, and a graphics engine that always feels like it's struggling to keep up. I bought this one upon release, and during the first half hour of play, I thought it was going straight to eBay. But I was at least enjoying the relatively beautiful visuals of the world, and I have a thing for RPG sandbox games that let you wander off to do whatever you want, so I stuck with it and gave it a chance. After about an hour I was actually getting pretty intrigued -- and by the end of my first afternoon of dedicated play, I was completely sold. Two Worlds is AWESOME, and sorely underappreciated. There's no question it's a big clumsy PC-port-feeling sort of game -- I like to think of it as Oblivion's Big, Retarded German Cousin that the whole family feels a little sorry for -- but in a way that's what's great about it. It's not seamless, but to the audience it's intended for, it delivers. The size of the world is absolutely huge -- probably a good deal larger than Oblivion -- and you are given no direction at all. There is an ungodly amount of weapons, armor, potions, spells, magic ingredients, etc. to be collected in this game, most of them randomly generated, giving it a refreshing twist of DIABLO. You can also make your own spells, potions, and jewels -- you can modify and combine weapons -- you are offered complete level-based control over a wide variety of fairly interesting skill sets -- and you can ride a demon-horse! I just found mine off in the wild somewhere. Even the game's flaws, like your protagonist's cheesy voice-acting, become sort of charming if you give it a chance. Some of his lines are so absurd that they're funny, and after a while you just learn to roll with it. TWO WORLDS is an incredibly deep, PC-style RPG -- and though it may be a little rough and glitchy in certain respects, it's far more stable than, say, GOTHIC 3 for PC. If you're into PC RPGs and like a big sandbox open world to explore, I'd urge you to give TWO WORLDS a chance. It's better than a lot of people think.

PERFECT DARK ZERO: With games like Halo 3, Gears of War, Lost Planet, and the Orange Box now on the market, PDZ does feel a little unnecessary to go back to now, but for as much shit as it gets in online forums, PDZ is IMO a very solid and perfectly enjoyable FPS. In fact, I prefer it to most of the Tom Clancy FPS's ... maybe I just prefer the more science-fiction based atmosphere, I dunno, but I prefer this to Prey also. Anyway, I loved PDZ. It's a long, tough, good-looking game, with a very interesting array of weapons and an intriguing balance of straightforward FPS characters and Hitman-like stealth characteristics. The graphics are quite good for a launch title, and the levels are very diverse. While technically linear, the levels have a looseness and openness to them that is refreshing and, at times, gives you numerous options for approaching a situation. I'm not sure why this game is usually shit upon -- it was actually rather well-reviewed -- but I say it's good stuff. I paid $30 or $40 for it and felt it was worth every penny -- you can probably get it for $15 or so now.

The Darkness: I think a lot of people overlooked this as "just another FPS", but the story, atmosphere and characters made this a bit of a gem. Plus it has Mike Patton on it.

Also:

CRACKDOWN: This game wasn't exactly badly reviewed or badly received, but I doubt it was a big enough deal that they'll make a sequel. And that's a damn shame, because Crackdown is awesome! Yeah, the enemies are all kinda the same and there's zero story -- but so what? Again, a decent story is fine if it really works with the game, but I just want a good game, and I'm partial to sandboxes. As a sandbox, CRACKDOWN is virtually unparalleled. Despite ugly early screenshots, the graphics and visual style of the world actually turned out quite beautiful, and what's more, it has some of the most impressive draw distances I have ever seen in a game like this (much better than GTAIV.) The sheer joy of leaping about the city, picking up trucks and hurling them into enemies or off of bridges, or climbing by hand the game's tallest structures, is not a thing to be dismissed. The hundreds of power-up orbs scattered around for you to collect at random make the game weirdly addictive once you start playing, and after I bought Crackdown it was literally all I could play for weeks. I love that you can defeat the gangs in any order you like. There is definitely a difficulty curve though, and some of the final bosses are hell to get through (the last especially.) This game also gets too little credit for its seamless, milky-smooth gameplay -- targeting is more intuitive than GTA, including the targeting of specific body parts. Combat is more fun than GTA, exploration is more rewarding than GTA, and the basic play control is more intuitive than GTA. Don't get me wrong, I love GTA as well, and Crackdown isn't the same exact thing -- I think of it as part GTA, and part HULK ULTIMATE DESTRUCTION (for those who remember that weirdly fun Xbox 1 game) -- but the bottom line is that Crackdown is a blast to play. Check it out if you haven't -- playing the Demo is a decent way to gauge whether or not it'll hold your interest.

Eternal Sonata: Reason for this is that the so-called "Hardcores" (AKA: In the Words of Yahztee, the "Beer drinking frat-boy's"). Great game, rather unique storyline for a JRPG, and, while it was generally liked by critics, I have yet to meet a person who has both played it and prefers it to Gears of War (I, by the way, do prefer it to Gears of War). Also, Assassin's Creed was rated well, and while I have heard many good things about it, mostly, I see/hear things like "Assassin's Creed sucks!" and such things. Yes, it's repititive, but so are most FPS's nowadays, so deal with it (Can't stand FPS's). It's a new and rather unique game, and very good (The combat is pretty... meh... but the combat is not the focus).

I agree with Eternal Sonata, and add to the list Armored Core 4. That was one of the best games I have played in a while, and also the most confusing.

Side note, not about underrated 360 games :

I find that the Dark Messiah port for the 360 had some good ideas, but it was outweighed by TERRIBLE redesigns. Focus and motion blur in combat were great, but the multiplayer was revamped and ruined and the skill tree system was completely demolished.

I do highly recommend the original Dark Messiah, mainly because it has the most intense and best executed melee combat in any game to date. That on top of the way you gain skill points throughout the game - at certain points in the game you receive skill points to allocate wherever you desire, not based on experience or kills, making the stealth and magic options far more approachable than other RPG's - made the game one of my favorites. It was horribly buggy when it came out, but now it is far more stable and considerably more fun.

Just go get the demo and find out for yourself just how amazing the melee combat is.

I would like to agree with Eternal Sonata and Crackdown. By the way, burko, the developers themselves said they'll forfeit making a sequel to Crackdown in order to make an MMOG.

As for the list, I'd like to add... damn, I really can't add anything... shame.

I agree Two Worlds is worth every minute played. So beautiful and expansive. Weapon selection is incredible. If you like oblivion there's no reason not to like 2 worlds. Plus you can set traps.

I bought Dark Messiah for the 360. And I'm not gonna recommend it. The Graphics are good. but it's nothing like Oblivion. Soo limited. Soo So limited. (this is a rental)

Gun is the best Western shooter ever made. It is a sandbox, but it's not as big as the others. But. Its SUCH a good game. I LUV THIS GAME!! BUY THIS GAME for every system you have. Support it. petition for a sequal. JUST PLAY IT!
(and just remember to up the difficulty level)

I loved "Gun" to death until I beat it, then I started running around with my seven barrelled cannon shotgun....with pretty much nothing to kill in a barren wasteland >_>

I'll gladly petition a sequel.

Prey it gets no credit at all and did more than Portal did inside of a full length game long before Portal ever came out.

Saints Row, it looks like a thugged up version of GTA, but upon closer inspection, I an admitted "Hater of all things Thugin/Pimpin" found a really enjoyable game. The car chases were more fun than GTA, the Gun/Aiming system was fun and I found I was actually interested in elements of the story, as it seemed like the characters were actually taking it seriously, though occasionally their toungues were planeted FIRMLY in their cheeks. Also I enjoyed how, unlike GTA, stupid little things like Drug Dealing, Assassinations etc. were all optional side missions as opposed to unintegral but still required parts of the story (I'm looking at YOU GTA4)

I played Gun on the PSP and LOVED it to death, greatly underrated. Kameo: Elements of power is a nice game too.

KAMEO is another good call; like PDZ, it was well-reviewed, but it doesn't really get much love and I'd be surprised to see a sequel. Too bad, it's a really gorgeous-looking, fresh, fun, vaguely Zelda-esque game with some excellent gameplay ideas. I admit I didn't play it all the way through -- I hated the underwater creature/section, and threw in the towel around there, some really obnoxious play control on that -- but it was still pretty cool all in all.

I'll second that EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 2017 is kinda fun, but I'll hold back on overrated. It's definitely a budget title and was reviewed very favorably considering that fact.

I might add DEAD OR ALIVE XTREME 2. The only thing this game really suffers from is the same thing ALL Team Ninja releases suffer from: once you've played one game in the franchise, you've played 'em all. Since Team Ninja views themselves and their creations as nigh-perfect, in their eyes, the only things that tend to need work are things like boob and hair physics, or blood animations (cough NG2.) But Xtreme 2 is a perfectly good adaptation of the original game for the 360, with more minigames and cleaned-up graphics. The series definitely isn't for everyone, but I like it, it's very unique and hilariously shameless, and weirdly addictive if you give it a chance. The first one was relatively kindly reviewed, but the 2nd for some reason gets trashed.

In my ongoing quest for other possible games that I suspect might be tons of fun but were poorly reviewed, I've picked up used copies of Bullet Witch and KUF: Circle of Doom, but I haven't played them yet.

I'll have to check out GUN, I had no idea there was anything "sandbox" about it.

You know what's the most underrated game....Sneak King. That's right that $4 game you get from Burger King. For $4 you get an awesome game. Yeah it's a stupid game, but that's what makes it awesome. You go around crawling up to hungry people to give them FOOD! You can hide under boxes or behind a door and surprise them with you're food. And to finish it off he gives you one of the best dance moves in history. The Burger King man makes solid snake be put to shame.

Overlord is also a good game. It's basically pikman but in a darker way. This time you're suppose to be evil and wreck havoc around the world with your little minions that give you one of the best dialogues ever.

Yeah, Sneak King! I have it, but I haven't played it yet. It looks pretty funny, and how can you go wrong for $3?

Third that. The last boss was a bit of a brick wall in terms of difficulty shift though. I got it off Amazon for Gamecube and played it on the Wii, 15 bucks. This may sound ridiculous but it genuinely reminded me of Montana when I was playing it in terms of scenery.

Love that game, no wait: L O V E I T ! Fucking awesome, F U C K I N G A W E S O M E !

On a more serious note, that was my first x360 game and i still play it a lot almost a year and a half later; I love showing off that game to friends and family, as a matter of fact two or three friends of mine have gone out to by a 360 after giving them a taste this baby.
