Well, while everyone is mentioning animes I actually like, I'm going to go ahead and put the hate on Naruto, the whole anime. It's only fair. I have my reasons. How do I put this?

For starters, nobody in this series is actually a ninja, or close enough to one. Not the stereotypical always-wear-black ninja, nor the real and actual peasant-who-uses-any-method-at-hand-while-under-the-radar ninja either. It's alot of shouting and jumping and increasingly-weird attack moves. Well, it IS anime, but let's not side-track ourselves too much. I like ninjas. If you're a Naruto not-a-ninja ninja, then I don't like you, QED.

But if you want a central focus to the anger, let's just go with the pinnacle character. Naruto has the show named after him and he's the main character, ergo this is all his fault. To me, he doesn't have a likeable personality or actual redeeming qualities. I'd call him the decoy protagonist, being something of a comic relief, except there's nobody suitable to take his place, because other characters are unlikeable in their OWN way.

Actually no, that's not true. There are SOME okay characters in my book, who actually seem alright. But there's no show if the rest of the cast is lacking. Basically, this could've been alot better if it were taken seriously. And I mean ACTUALLY seriously and not just with bi-polar angst and comic relief. If the creator of the show/manga had done this to be, say, the equivalent of Samurai Jack, it would've been GOOD.
That orange ninja is the whole reason I haven't even touched anime until Soul Eater showed me the light.

Izaya Orihara from Durarara, the guy is a colossal asshole, full stop. who the hell in their right mind manipulates and convinces people to try and kill themselves (among other very despicable things) for shits and giggles?

Shinji bloody Ikari (End topic)

He is such a whiny little ***** and he gets on my nerve's so much. He alone is proberly the reason why neon genesis evangelion isn't my favourite anime. If the anime didn't have such a crappy excuse of a main character it would of been the god tier of anime's shame really.
Like I said earlier, I disagree. The great thing about Shinji is that he's human, and feels the way a real person would feel in his situation. Oh, and it's spelled "nerves", not "nerve's"
You wanted realism from Evangelion?

Personally, I don't consider Shinji that realistic a character. I certainly wouldn't act like him in his situation.
really? the guy was barely into adolescence with a friendless and parentless upbringing is suddenly put into a life or death situation without any say in the matter, and everyone around him only values him as a component for a giant biomecha of death, and you're saying complaining about being put in that situation is not realistic?

its very easy to say you wouldn't act the way he does when you haven't experienced that and have the benefit of hindsight, and anyone who says that his reaction wasn't one you'd realistically expect from a socially awkward teenager has either massively unreasonable expectations, or is completely missing the point.

Camille Bidan - Zeta Gundam. Every episode has him whining or being overly emotional.
Sasuke - Naruto. I get it. You're emo.
Naruto - Naruto. "Believe it!"
Kira - Gundam Seed. So you killed a guy, big deal. Quit whining.

Come to think of it, nearly every Mobile Suit Gundam had a main character who whined incessantly.
as i pointed out with shinji from evangelion, you can't put a teenager (who lets be honest are not known for mental stability) with parental issues inside a giant robot and throw them into a war and not expect some form of complaint from them, remember they aren't soldiers or adults.

and again, very easy to say get over it when it is something you havent experienced, to be honest i'd be quite worried if a teenager killed someone and DIDN'T lose a wink of sleep over it (its one of those sociopathic warning bells after all)

seriously half of these complaints run along the lines of "realisitc reactions to war/death? in MY giant robot/ninja/fighting animu? what a wuss/pansy/emo they should ditch the dress and grow a pair."

I must say... Akemiya form Sasameki Koto. Nonono, don't think I hate transvestites or anything. (One of my best friends is one.) I dislike him for completely different reasons.
He reminds me of the protagonist of the (at best mildly amusing) film Year One, in that he either has no understanding whatsoever of what the word lesbian (Here's a hint, it means she won't go out with you.) means, or he's thicker than a cement milkshake, so to speak. Probably both.

But I don't hate him, much as I don't hate any fictional character. I believe the word hate should be reserved for real life people who commit abhorrent atrocities, not annoying fictional characters.

Tidus from FFX. I know it's not technically anime, but it's anime-ish. His cheesy voice and character gets in the way all the freaking time. And the story barely has anything to do with Tidus besides the fact he's a ghost produced by the fake Zanarkand and he's there to create a link. Other than that it was a fun and colorful game.

Misa from Death Note, or Nanalee from Code Geass. Yes, I'm picking on the crippled, blind child but she is so annoying.
Agreed with Misa from Death Note. I'll also go ahead and add (until you learn why) Asuka from Evangelion and Yuka from Elfen Lied. I just... really didn't like those two. Not bad characters, but Asuka irritated me and Yuka made me want to cringe everytime she started getting emo on screen.
Oh god yes, Asuka wouldn't STFU about herself and Yuka was just so whinny and petty... though with Yuka I sort of get it since she thinks Khota is choosing a mentally challenged girl over his mostly functional female cousin...<.<

OT: all of the characters from El Cazador De La Bruja.. they were just so utterly bland and uninteresting... which is in my opinion worse than being a truly terrible character because at least terrible characters can be memorable...<.<

Every single anime character I have ever seen. Except MAYBE Jing from King of Bandit Jing. Even then he was pretty annoying.

I thought Yuka was a type of clingy person that I have personally avoided in the past in the real world despite the fact that it could have resulted in some spicy funtimes. The kind of person who is a little too attached to another person, to the point that it seems a little ridiculous. "Selfish" I think is the word I am looking for. I think for that reason, her character just disturbed me. >_<

Makoto from School Days was DELIBERATELY designed to be the most unlikeable possible douchebag in order to make it easier for the audience to accept the ending of the series
where one of his love interests (the one he got pregnant then publically dumped) stabs him to death, only for his other love interest (the one he initially hooked up with only to ignore in favour of the other one, causing her to lose her mind, until the other girl got pregnant causing him to go back to the first girl) to go nuts, cut the head off his corpse and keep it in a bag while she murders the other girl.
Yeah. It was that sort of show.
You forgot the part where she is on a boat cuddling with the severed head.........yeah......................................

Yes the clingy personality is pretty annoying though I wouldn't say I hated her character...well mostly because if you've ever read the manga you'd know she's one of the better characters compared to all of the pointless characters, assholes, and poorly written characters... of which their are quite a few...<.<

Most mangas I've seen use the same stock characters so it's pretty easy to generalize about which ones annoy me. The "cooky/perky/happy-go-lucky/w/e girl" Misa, Orihime etc. Also, the "badass-antihero-rival-who-will-inevitably-have-spikey-black-hair" can either come off as a decently enjoyable character - Saito from Ruroken, Hiei from YuYuH or incredibly self-satisfied, whiny and convinced of their superiority despite losing to the protagonist the whole series -- Vegeta from DBZ, Saskue from Naruto

I had more loathing for Death Jr., personally.
Yes his obsessive behavior is annoying... but Black Star is Naruto with ADD, ADHD and hyped up on sugar pill and cocaine... he just wouldn't shut the fuck up... not to mention the fact that he has the mental capacity of a 3 year old and throws a ***** fit when he losses... I want to remove his eyes with a rusty spoon...<.<

I've never looked at the manga, so I would not know anything about that.

The Gay dude from Guren Lagann (probably a typo there). I'm not homophobic but if anything this dude insults gay people. He's a stereotype and not only that does weird gay mannerisms like hitting on dudes when he clearly knows they are already in a heterosexual relationship or are simply quite straight. The English dub of him really really creeps me out.

The manga is atrocious...<.< it's like pure chocolate... so bad it hurts... it takes everything remotely good about the anime and destroys it...<.<
