Violence is an inherent part of many videogames, even Oddworld where the main character is a pacifist, has no problem mind controlling mooks to do his work for him, so weapons are usually used as a hard rock is better than a clenched fist unless you are the goddamn rock or something.
What is the most useless videogame weapon you have ever come across in an RPG, MMO, FPS etc.?
For me that is Single Shotguns in New Vegas.
1) One shot at a time, most likely dead by the time your done reloading.
2) Long reload time for one damn shell.
3) Does jackshit.

Ahhh Magikarp.
I remember him, I usually had him hold that thing that gives him XP even if he did nothing, or I just brought him in and quickly switched him out.

Zodiac and Clank Zapper/Shocker from Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando. About a million bolts each, low ammo capacity, and low effectiveness.

The single shotgun is for defending your weak low-level ass from small pests while you're on your way to get better guns, so it's not completely useless.

The tornado launcher from Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction is quite useless because you're supposed to control the tornado by tilting the controller, which is awkward and inaccurate even if you don't try to run and jump around while shooting, which is necessary for dodging attacks.

The first dagger you pick up in Morrowind.

Most new players think "Oh, cool! A free weapon! Let's go kill some mudcrabs!"

They soon would be proven terribly wrong...

Quake Live's default gun. Unless you have quad damage, its borderline retarded behavior to run around with it the whole game.

Throwing knives in Assassins creed: Brotherhood..
They work but you have to throw 2 of them almost all the time. it gets really annoying.

Good excuse to look like a boss and use the crossbow though.

The "Kozlice" in Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis.

It's an over and under shotgun and it's pretty accurate for a videogame shotgun, but that's where the good bits end. It's weak so a one shot stop is not guaranteed, it can only be fired twice before you have to reload and when you do, you do it twice so it takes twice as long as any other weapon... Worst of all, due to the way ammo is managed in this game (you can carry 10 magazines max), each single shot is considered to be a magazine, so you can only carry 10 rounds total for the Kozlice, compared to 300 for an M16 or AK.

How they hell did they get away with making it only a single shot? Such a rip off...

OT: The Poison Blades/Darts in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood (in single player). I mean seriously who would even use that weapon? To me, it served absolutely no purpose during the story mode missions. I only messed around with it for a bit after I beat the game and got the Armor of Romulus. I would have just used the Dual Hidden Blades!

For me,it's a toss up between the Archimedes Orbital Laser from New Vegas and the Spartan Laser Cannon from Halo 3 (possibly 2, I can't really remember).
I know both weapons that I mentioned are powerful, possibly some of the most powerful of their prospective games, but they both have extremely long lag times between trigger pull and enemy death. Plus, each weapon only has a few targets that it is truly effective against.
