Movie characters you were saddened (or downright horrified) to see die.

thank you somebody remember Saving Private Ryan its still sad that almost the whole cast died
I always felt most hard hit by Wade's death (The Medic played by Giovanni Ribsi), it's probably one of the most realistic and sad deaths sequences on film.
Mellish's death was the one that did it for me, I've never been more mad at a movie character in my life. Plus, I act alot like him, excpet for the Jewish part.

Maria in Gears 2. I know, I know everyone thinks that the story was cheesy and terrible, but if you followed it from day one, you had a connection with those guys.

And Alyx's dad in Half Life 2: Episode Two "Look away honey." :(

Well if we allow video game characters then Alvin H. Davenport a.k.a Chopper from ace combat 5. I teared up because he was a great character who stayed with you the whole time, I mean until he dies of course.

For a movie the one that struck me the most is the two children who die in Der Untergang (The Downfall), which is a story about the Russian attack on Berlin from the point of view of those in Hitler's Bunker and the city's defenders. They are a boy and a girl and the Russians are about to come kill them and they know it. The girl hands the boy a gun does the Nazi salute and the boy shoots her, he then shoots himself. It was powerful and conveyed the mix of hopelessness but utter loyalty many of these children felt.

I'd have to agree with the I am Legend nomination. It was beautiful and sad at the same time.

Oh jesus, yes. That was so terrible because you didn't see it coming at all. When it happened, I was just like "...seriously?" -

When the girl falls trying to cross the brook and gets swept away

How about when Gandalf died in The Fellowship of the Ring. It made me so sad I never watched the other 2 movies.
