Hi Everyone.

Movie Bob recently posted a list of nerd bible movies which has inspired me to do a movie marathon this weekend. Sadly I'll be limited to what is available at my local blockbuster due to my wife taking all week to watch "The Triangle", "Chloe" an "Shoot em up (surprising good btw)".

Anyway that just means I can't send away for hard to find movies but I still can get any oldies but goodies available at my local blockbuster.

My general plan is just to go there and browse the Sci-Fi/Action sections mainly (maybe the comedy as well) and try and get a good 10-12 movies for this weekend at least.

So why am I posting here?

Well, I'd like to hear some good suggestions on movies I should rent. Ones that might be worth re-watching or that are on the top of the list of movies you want to see again.

I haven't seen Logan's Run in years (maybe 10 or so) and I'm thinking of grabbing Meet the Parents as well (Meet the Fockers was good but not as good in my opinion and I havn't seen the original in awhile). Other then those I really am not set on anything yet. I like science fiction, action and fantasy the most but me and my wife both like most comedies so I'll probably get a decent selection of those. Don't suggest Dusk to Dawn either, it's awesome but we have seen it too many times and fairly recently sadly (Favorite monologue of all time).

I have not seen any of the Harry potter movies after the first because, well, I thought the first blew chunks and I didn't have the stomach to watch anymore. I'm contemplating trying to watch the rest of them this weekend but don't want to waste that many slots if they totally blow as well.

So, help me out, what would be your top 10 non-recent movies to rent in the above genres. I sit through new drama movies and romantic movies with my wife (she sits through super hero movies etc so it's a give and take) but this weekend i'm aiming for all movies we both would enjoy. Pixar movies btw are great except we have pretty much seen them all fairly recently so those are also out...which pretty much means all animated movies as well.

I appreciate any ideas, the longer the list I go in with the more likely I'll come out with a great selection. I've loaded up on supplies already, our house is air conditioned to a nice 70 degrees and we are ready to seriously veg. I just need the entertainment to go with it (yes we both read, play card/board games etc all the time but it's movie marathon time!!).

I loved the Evil dead series but even though I've tried 3 times I can't get my wife to even sit through all of Army of Darkness. No clue what turns her off on it so much she's seen plenty of other movies that are similar....she just has some irrational dislike of that movie I guess.

I havn'e seen part 1 in 2 for over 10 years because of that....I might need to remedy that soon but not this weekend.

Thanks for the suggestion:)

A pair of nice sci-fi's I've seen were: moon and event horizon. I'm not a big fan of the action genre but if I may give you an advice if you like mafia movies: Miller's Crossing.

2001: A Space Odyssey.
Moon.
Blade Runner.
Crank 1 & 2. I highly recommend these, it's comedy/action, hilariously over the top.
Hot Fuzz/Shaun of the Dead.
Pineapple Express.
Burn After Reading.
I Heart Huckabees.
Gattaca.
Dark City.

There's some recommendations off the top of my head that are science fiction, action and comedy, or combinations of them, I actually really want to watch Crank again now.

Well for action might I suggest Rock'n Rolla? It's a pretty good movie with some pretty funny parts.

A good movie is Sunset Boulevard. Old but amazing. Also, The Maltese Falcon. Pretty much anything with Humphrey Bogart, and if you can get it, M. the movie is literally titled "M," but it's so good.

Star Ship Troopers is Sci-fi, action, and comedy, with Sci-fi and action being the major elements.

Galaxy Quest is a Sci-fi, action, and comedy, with the comedy being the main aspect, and action being relegated to only a few scenes.

Also, John Woo movies. Bullet in the Head, A better Tomorrow 1 and 2, Hard Boiled, the Killer... Only if you can speak Cantonese or are willing to read subtitles though, because I don't think they're dubbed.

So far I'm looking for these movies:

Mars Attacks (Funny, worth seeing again)
Meet the parents (dito)
Terminator II (Be nice to see the original again...last one wasn't bad but this was the best)
Deathrace 2000 (If I can find it)
Fifth Element (yeah, I have to get my Multipass fix)
Demolition Man (3 sea shells time baby)
The Stand (Been a few years I love this mini-series)
Kill Bill 1&2 (why not)
Twelve Monkeys (2 bruce willis movies is better then one...and I've seen the Die hards recently)
Rambo First Blood (best one in my opinion and goes well with Deathrace 2000)
Light of Day (inspired by watching the recent Joan Jet movie...I've actually never seen this)
Enemy Mine (Just saw Dreamscape on TV the other day and made me want to watch this again)

Thats my list so far:)

Jack_Uzi, I keep hearing Moon is a good movie. I havn't seen it yet as it didn't look actiony enough for me but I will give it a try thanks:)

Jasper Jeffs, Another suggestion to watch Moon, that clinches it!! I've seen the rest on your list fairly revently except Dark City...but I've seen that so many times already. Loved that movie. I loved burn after reading, couldn't believe brad pit in that movie....but I have seen that too recently. Still that gives me a great idea....I should rent O' brother where art thou...I havn't seen that in ages. Thanks a ton!!

Mr. Elemenopee, I've never heard of rockenrolla...I will look it up thanks.

Eren Mutaugh, My wife would love you for suggesting those:)

Ironic Pirate. I had a hard time with Starship troopers since I liked the book and the movie had nothing in common with it other then the bugs. Still it was pretty good, I don't think I would watch it again though (I have only seen it once and I saw a sequal with Doogie in it but I don't think the latest one that came out). I wasn't a huge of Galaxy quest if thats the one with Tim Allen (if I remember it right)...but I've just never been a big fan of his.

This is a subtitle free weekend, but thank you for the suggestions:)

Hmm. I'm not really into Sci-Fi, but a few good movies would be Zombieland (My favorite movie of all time) Possibly Inglorious Basterds, if your into that sorta thing. Both are fairly humorous.

Another thing is Demolition Man. Great action/sci-fi movie.

highly recommend you throw Pitch Black into that list at leat.
For other recommendations:
a Guy Ritchie film is always good so one of Snatch, Lock Stock, or RocknRolla
Ink is an excellent little indie film which is pretty damn good
Dark City is an excellent modern Noire film which gives The Matrix a run for its money in terms of concept
Starship Troopers is an awesome drinking film, just avoid the sequels like the plague
Man On Fire is one of my all-time favourites but may be a bit too serious for your marathon.
Black Hawk Down is also an incredible movie to watch

And they're a bit recent but consider
Mutant Chronicles (fun action/sci-fi B-movie)
Zombieland
Hellboy 2
Death Race (Jason Statham one, as its just fun)

Great suggestions alivingphoenix:)

I already have demoliton man on my list (Favorite Sandra bullock movie by far). I thought INglorious Bastards was ok....which is rare for me cause I generally don't like movies with Nazi's in them....not sure why but I guess I'm tired of the Nazi villian archtype or something *shrug*. We didn't see it till it hit DvD though so it was fairly recently.

I watched Zombieland in the movie theator and then went to a Zombieland holloween party last year and one the trivia contest. Sadly when it came out on DvD I rented it for my wife to watch with me and she didn't make it halfway through it...thats out:( I love zombie movies though and I have survival of the dead on my online que (doubt I can find it at blockbuster though).

I am legend and Shawn of the dead are the last 2 zombie movies I got my wife to sit through but both were fairly recently (not my first time watching Shawn but the first for her). I'm already going to make her sit through Survival of the dead when it gets here so I probably won't make her watch any this weekend. Btw I went as a pizza zombie (Undead with a slice of pizza around my neck that craved pizza instead of brains) at the holloween party. I came in second for best costume...but then again it was full of college students mostly lol.

Plaese cheack out "frequently asked questions about time travel"
it's almost unknown, but it's funny, creative, a great Si-Fi, tension, and brilliant resolution, at least watch some on Youtube!
