Prince of Persia

It was just a fun summer adventure movie, too bad it never got any sequels.

So I'm going to use this time to show off one of my favorite movies.

Do you remember those lists "You better Catch This Before it Leaves Netflix"? It pointed me to this.

It's called Ink [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1071804/].

After I watched it, I immediate bought it on Amazon. Watching it, I remembered instantly what it was like to feel magic in storytelling as a child.

Or maybe just magic in general.

Columbiana.

It's essentially a Punisher movie with a Latinx woman instead of Frank Castle. It's not much more than a solid action movie, but I do think it's routinely overlooked.

The Mechanic is also a good movie (with a slightly disappointing follow-up).

xXx: State of the Union was cheesy bordering on blackspoiltation, but it was a lot of fun for how absurd it was.

Killer Elite was another Statham action movie (which could be classified as a genre in an of itself) that got overlooked despite a real sense of the time period that few other movies are able to achieve.

Oops, I screwed up the dates. Sorry.

Still, Flushed Away is underrated (even despite the slugs).

Flight of Dragons. I know people like to rag on Rankin Bass but I loved this movie as a kid because of how creative it was and aspects like how the final battle is won were things I always remember.

The 80's The Blob movie. Holy crap I'm glad I didn't see this as a kid because that melting scene in the hospital is amazing from a special effects perspective and completely terrifying. I would have been scarred for life.

Another great one is Killer Klowns From Outer Space. It is utterly ridiculous but the movie works (Not as a horror movie so much except for the scene in the police station) as a fun movie because, as the creators say in the commentary for the DVD, it is played with a completely straight face.

I'm all for that! It's such a shame almost no one remembers those movies.

Yes! Give me a high five! Love the Tremors series, even if they did make me terrified of open ground when I was a little kid.

I feel like 2008's Speed Racer got a bit of a crap run, especially on RT. It cut some corners on the CGI in a number of places, but it went full throttle in the parts of the show that mattered most, the races. It was good, silly, light hearted fun that had the spirit of the original show along with plenty of new age feel to it that I think went really well together. Re-watched it some time early this year and it got me all emotional.

And someone would have to be flat out lying to my face if they told me that the soundtrack wasn't jammin' as fuck. Thunderhead and the Casa Cristo had wonderfully done music, as did the rest of the movie. One of my favourite movie scores, and one of my favorite movies in general. But then again, maybe I'm just fascinated by flashy things like that

Oscar. It?s a relatively simple screwball comedy starring Sylvester Stallone as a gangster who promises his father - a scene stealing Kirk Douglas - he?ll go legit. Character actors all around doing their thing including Tim Curry not as a villain but a nebbish but otherwise decent elocution teacher.

Talking of Statham, I thought Parker was pretty decent, too. Although quite a few of Statham's movies around that period were distinctly towards the mediocre level.

Edit - and topically enough, look what just popped up;

Van Helsing. That movie is just great fun. It's high camp and pulp, but that's on purpose.

Dredd 2012, like others have mentioned.

The Fountain. Probably my personal favorite movie of all time, on an emotional level.

Gods of Egypt. It's a mythological film, about mythological beings, doing mythologically epic stuff. Yeah the whitewashing was unfortunate, but I mean, the stuff they are doing, it's not really made up. It's right out of most modern mythologies. The shit is weird yes, but that's mythology for you. I dunno, maybe as someone who spent years playing and running the roleplaying game Scion (where you play the literal children of the Gods, think God of War, and you are Atreies.) Maybe because of that, I'm more accepting of the overly dramatic, and high fantasy stuff that happened in that film.

Im sure there are others, but that's all I can think of right now while at work.

My main problem with Colombiana was that the action scenes are terrible. Too much over editing and shaky cam. I like the actress in the character though.

I'd maintain that the "whitewashing" in GoE was, like most washing controversies, a non-issue. That aside, I liked the film. I mean, it was bad, but enjoyable. Greek mythology was more my jam as a kid, but the Egyptian gods duking it out in bad CGI, with a literal plot point being gathering parts of the other gods to go uber, cue the boss battle? Heh, awesome.

A turn-of-the-millennium-sci-fi-thriller that asks deep questions about our own agency and sense of self-identity. It came out at the same time as The Matrix, dealt with similar subject matter in a much less optimistic (and in a far.....fleshier) way and therefore got crushed at the box office.

Great director, fantastic cast of actors (Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jude Law) and a finale that is just so deliberately and hilariously convoluted that I stood up and cheered.

Hm, I'd consider films that I never seen talked about before as not receiving enough (any?) love, as the high profile commercial failures are just not receiving financial love, which is the worst kind of love. Unless you're poor. Or an addict. Or both. Anyway, the point is it's still attention, which the law of averages dictates will come with a percentage of lovers regardless of quality.

Sexy Beast: the name and description might give this a bad impression for some, from the director of Under the Skin (also underappreciated, but have at least seen it mentioned by others before), is a fine example of a grounded antagonist of which I've seen varying examples of in reality, played by Ben Kingsley. Very tense to watch him on screen and how others hold themselves in his vicinity.

Predestination: a surprise time travel gem.

Dave Made a Maze: came out of nowhere, went back into nowhere, but never forgotten.

Sorry to Bother You: is lovely. Got Tessa Thompson in, for the MCU fans out there. And Terry Crews. AND Danny Glover.

The Infidel: a mildly humourous bonding of a Jewish and a Muslim human in some part of this country, written by David Baddiel, I only recently found out.

Possum: Eugh.

Sightseers: Dark Brit Comedy, somewhat tied to Prevenge, another hidden gem.

Alien Autopsy: didn't think a film with Ant and Dec could be a good time, but here we are. Contains a comedian from the above film also. Maybe low expectations did what they do best.

The Man Who Killed Hitler and then Bigfoot: ...?

Chicken: indie play adaptation.

1 Day: hip hop street musical, not to be confused with 'One Day'

Eye of the Beholder: Ewan McGregor finds newfound serial killer fetish during secret agent employment.

Super: not sure if nobody...

Free Fire: all gunfights need to be this from now on.

Kill List: So. Atmosphere. Heavy.

I definitely agree with Princess and the Frog and Treasure planet, haven't seen Atlantis and its been years since I saw Emperor's New Groove so I can't really speak for them.

I have to add Redline to the list.
Its an incredible anime movie.
And best of all, its available on youtube for free.

For an even lesser known animated film, I gotta give it to Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer
Its kind of offensive how good this movie ends up being, but good luck finding it.

One of my favorites too and it did horribly.
https://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=dredd.htm

Yet it appears to have been reasonably well received.

Fingers crossed for the best movie out now that so far isn't getting enough love? I just saw Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and loved it. Yet you have people like Gracie on youtube scandalized that they allowed a little girl to put her hand on Leo's knee, trying to comfort him as he weeps for his crashing career. Very few people at the screening I watched this opening weekend. Lot of controversy. But me and mine thought it fantastic. I'll buy it when available for home viewing.

Glad to see another fan of Redline! That movie kills 99% of the anime that comes out today. I did not even know they show it for free on YT now. Last time I checked, it was priced at 2.99. I have no need because I got the motherfucking blu-ray. Redline is a movie that has to be seen on a big screen.

I've got it on blu-ray also. Its too good not to have, I would also say its just better then 99% of anime, even from the "golden" age. Its fucken incredible.

Dredd 2012 was amazing but it flopped. It's a shame, I heard the sequels were going to do Judge Death.
I think a big part of its failure was down to how few 2D showings it had in theatres.

I can't see 3D movies as my eyes have completely different focal lengths, so I couldn't see the film comfortably. Had a 2D showing been available I would have gone to see it.
