I've got it on blu-ray also. Its too good not to have, I would also say its just better then 99% of anime, even from the "golden" age. Its fucken incredible.

It's too bad that link is blocked in my country for some stupid reason or I'd check it out. Dunno why it'd be blocked in Canada of all things

eXistenZ

A turn-of-the-millennium-sci-fi-thriller that asks deep questions about our own agency and sense of self-identity. It came out at the same time as The Matrix, dealt with similar subject matter in a much less optimistic (and in a far.....fleshier) way and therefore got crushed at the box office.

Great director, fantastic cast of actors (Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jude Law) and a finale that is just so deliberately and hilariously convoluted that I stood up and cheered.

That, and Dark City too. Both movies had the wind taken out of their sales by the Matrix being the mega-hit that it was. To be fair to the Matrix it still holds up, but is brought down a bit by its lackluster sequels.

As for my pick:

Kathryn Bigelow's underappreciated masterpiece, which had the romance writing buffed up by her ex-husband James Cameron. I watch it every new years (as the movie is set in the days leading up to Y2K), and despite some of the on-the-nose writing when it comes to the black struggle stuff, it's really good.

-The Hunting Party: Featuring Richard Gere as a journalist and Terence Howard as a cameraman are trying to track down a war criminal nicknamed "The Fox". This film literally just popped into my head for the 1st time in years (I had to Google around to find the name) but I remember really enjoying this a lot. I'm actually going to rewatch this week and hopefully be like the 1st time watching it in a sense.

-The 'Burbs: Literally my favorite Tom Hanks movie ever. I love this movie so much. It's just about a bunch of middle-aged men in the suburbs "investigating" weird new neighbors, but it's like the best kind of comfort food in the form of a movie for me.

-Everly: Really awesome action movie that takes place in basically one room starring the always amazing Salma Hayek as a sex slave working with the police that her Japanese crime lord figures out and sends tons of goons her way.

-Survive Style 5+: A quirky Japanese movie that perfectly nails in the most entertaining manner being quirky and Japanese.

-Mr. Right: Sam Rockwell plays a hitman dating Anna Kendrick's character. The action scenes are uniquely choreographed and the comedy is well done. Just a really fun movie.

-Teen Titans Go! To the Movies: I've not seen the Teen Titans Go show outside of an episode here or there, but this movie was probably the most fun movie I saw last year. Loved the 80s and 90s vibes, they need to go back in time using time cycles and have to be 'radical' to charge up the power.

I've seen a few episodes of TTG and I enjoyed them. I know a lot of people dislike this show, but I never saw the original, so I've got nothing to compare it to. But on its own, it's reasonably funny.

And the film's pretty good too. And that sequence in question...I mean, I was surprised at the stuff they got away with. Not only do they murder Aquaman (albeit indirectly), but are also indirectly responsible for the death of Bruce's parents. I mean, Jesus Starfire...

Does it really count as needing more love if the movie did fine critically and financially? I noticed show gets a lot of hate as I am one of the haters of teen Titans go, but even people who dislike the show prefer the movie over most episodes. My problem would go is that not that it's a comedy show, but it's marathoned like crazy at the expense of other shows, similar to Nickelodeon's prom with SpongeBob. The writers later got really vindictive towards the criticism. Representing whining fans as all assholes, regardless if they have legit criticisms or not. When you get to that level of immature writing up your own ass, you know you have problems. that the Titans are such assholes at they become unfunny to watch and you don't want to see them succeed in anything. I won't go any further cuz I don't want to do real to go off topic, but I just know I stopped watching Teen Titans go after the middle of its second season. And while I do love the original show, it had its own set of flaws and issues.

I did quickly look up that it made $52 million worldwide on a $10 million budget so it made money. I kinda feel a kids movie that good usually rakes in a lot more money. I don't really hear much talk about it either, I even had a line from the movie as my text message ringtone for months, "Crack an egg on it, caw caw!".

Adding in one more:

-Shanghai Noon: This is literally my favorite western (because I hate westerns) ever. And, it's easily Jackie Chan's best American made movie, the fish out of water story with Jackie is the best (Jackie Chan version of a bar fight in the West). Owen Wilson and Jackie have great chemistry. All the western cliches are here in force like too much dynamite on the safe to a Butch Cassidy homage ending. Shanghai Knights is also solid with better action, but the writing isn't as good.
