Bit of a deviation from my usually silly threads today. I need help finding something to listen to, I'm looking for something really heavy but without the lyrics being only screamed. Some screaming's ok but I prefer singing in my music. Can anyone suggest anything for me to try?

Sure. This list is based on the idea that you don't listen to any of the below, ok? Going from the bottom of my iTunes collection and up:

Warbringer, if you like bands such as Slayer.
Tool. Definitely give them a listen.
Three Days Grace
System of a Down
Stone Sour
Soil
Slipknot
Shinedown
Sepultura
Serj Tankian, his solo work.
Scars on Broadway
Sea of Treachery
Rise Against, not metal, but very, very, impressive Punk Rock, worth at least a listen
Rage Against the Machine
Pantera
Ozzy Osbourne, his solo work, maybe give a care to Black Sabbath
Nine Inch Nails
Nightrage
Metallica
Megadeth
Machine Head
Iron Maiden
In Flames, particularly A Sense of Purpose, their latest album
Five Finger Death Punch, try The Bleeding, good song
Drowning Pool
Disturbed
Dark Tranquillity
Bullet For Valentine, great band, fantastic new metal
Black Tide
Avenged Sevenfold
Alexisonfire

Big list of bands is over now, I hope you find something to listen to out of that.

Well the first band that came to mind was Converge, and their album "You Fail Me." But most of their lyrics are screamed.

So maybe try Every Time I Die, they're a mix of the two vocal styles. I'll update the post if I think of anything else.

EDIT: Try some post hardcore bands as well perhaps - Blood Brothers, or maybe The Fall of Troy, they're Math Rock.

And with the huge list above, I'd agree with most except for Scars on Broadway and Serj Tankian's solo stuff. I love early SOAD but those albums were terrible.

Fear Factory. Lead Singer does some screaming, but he has a sexy voice when he isn't.

I'll throw in a few; Sparta, Butterfly Effect, Porcupine Tree

Without knowing what you like, I'd say at least try the last one. :)

Oooh, he hasn't heard of Tool... He'll be having FUN with that one. >:D

Damn, you lucky person you, I missed out on the NIN concert tickets. =P

I have a feeling that you might find Nightrage and Dark Tranquillity a little too full of screaming/growling, but they do lapse into singing every now and again, and are better for it. The same applies to In Flames, although they have a damn sight more singing, especially in the album I pointed out.

Scars on Broadway and Serj are just the new projects from the remnants of SOAD, so if you liked System, then I guess you'll like them; I know I did, however, it's all an opinion.

Neither Tool nor Three Days Grace are particularly "heavy", but they're very good music all the same, so I just threw them in there on the off chance you'd give them a listen.

*having presently found out what those are* Tool does not belong on Guitar Hero, but that's just my opinion. Well, if they're not to your taste, no probs, but explore the catalogue a little. The Tool frontman also heads A Perfect Circle, if that's of any interest.

those aren't their best songs by far, tho they are good

if you haven't heard of them i say try one of these
GWAR
X-Cops
3 inches of Blood
Manowar
Danzig
Suicidal Tendencies
Hanzel Und Gretyl - they're more guttural than screaming but pretty funny
Ministry
Butthole Surfers
Malhavoc - might be hard to find but kick ass Canadian industrial band
Rollins Band - he's such an angry young man sometimes
Sepultura - the older stuff, with Roots being one of the best
Calavera Conspiracy
Type O Negative - metal with a sense of humour

ok now onto more industrial type stuff

Decoded Feedback - great Canadian industrial band
Noisex
Combichrist - really aggressive electro
:Wumpscut:
Skinny Puppy - a great rock and roll band that came back to earth and they're Canadian
Frontline Assembly - spawned from Skinny Puppy, tho most people know their side project Delerium
Pigface - a super-group in more than one sense
Swamp Terrorists
Terrorfakt
Feindflug
KMFDM

not sure what else to say

Perhaps not quite what you are looking for, but I suggest I am the party [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rE4-i9JMEU] presents a slightly more considered approach. Listen to them and wonder what went wrong with emo.

Delain. If your into female fronted bands.
Anathema can be pretty heavy too, their ealier stuff mainly.
Sureley you listen to Opeth?Right?
Kamelot are heavy-ish and don't scream, one of my all time favourite bands.
The only others i can think of now are Therion if you like more heavy symphonic stuff and Saint Vitus if you like heavy but sombre.

a few I think are quite good:

Peach gb
Of the I has no screaming and a reasonably heavy sound
Esoterica's first album The Fool ticks quite a few of the boxes.
Sucioperro has a little screaming but not for very long

can't really think of any more at the moment

Woah! 3 songs is not enough to form a vendetta, give at least one album (Aenima I would recommend) a listen then make you judgements.
