Music Is Now Illegal.

I was listening to the Frank Zappa album Joe's Garage [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe%27s_Garage] earlier, and a thought came across my mind. "What if music was illegal?"
The thought popped into my mind that music becomes so corrupting to children, the government finds the best course of action is to effectively ban almost all forms of music.
My thought process on what it would be like was sort of like the novel Fahrenheit 451, but with music. You can listen to only accepted forms of music, only "clean" music is allowed. Everything deemed as "unclean" by the government will become banned, and the writer/performer will be arrested. If you listen to the "unclean" forms of music, you will be punished without trial, in some cruel way.

Here's my idea of what the government would deem as "clean" music:
Classical, Baroque, Religious, et cetra.
Here's my idea of the government's idea of "unclean" music:
The Parent's Music Resource Center's "Filthy Fifteen" [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parents_Music_Resource_Center#Actions], and other genres/songs similar to that. Rock, pop, rap, et cetra.

Now here's the bit to lead the discussion:
What would you do if music became illegal? Would you just go along listening to the accepted forms of music? Would you fight it? If you were to fight the ban, how would you?

I'd still listen to music, even if it was illegal. I mean, it would be much harder to track than anything else, especially if I had them on CD's or my mp3 player already.

If music became illegal, I'd literally kill myself.

I just can't live in a world where all I could listen to was Nickleback and Black Eyed Peas.

I would illegally listen to the music I like. Seriously, with digital distribution and some very angry fans, there is no way the government could effectively enforce the ban for everyone.

Seriously I couldn't live without music, I would either kill myself or lead the revolt.

As eclectic as I am I couldn't listen to just a couple genres of music, I need to be able to choose what I want.

I would still listen to my music, and it would be specially made so that if anyone else tried to listen to it, it would cause seizures.
No, I don't know how. This is hypothetical. :p

More seriously, I would just listen to it at a lower level. I want my metal, dammit!
And I'd hide in a shady part of town, filled with others who loved the same kind of banned music, and who all had very large guns.

It would be hard to stop people playing music I imagine. Musicians would live rather strange lives, like something out of a kids cartoon.

Wasn't there a kids show where the king banned music but a load of pianos were like "Fuck that" and started a bloody revolution, murdering countless innocents in the process.

I would Find my way to every broadcasting station around, bust a few heads, and put on the most rebellious awesome music I could find. I would continue this process until I got executed or something. Hopefully we'd have overthrown em' by then.

I think headphones would become very expensive due to the fact that you could listen to the illegal music and everyone would be none the wiser. Anyway, I would use my mp3 player to listen to what I wanted.

Are these answers in the ball park of what you were expecting?

Pretty much. I like Metatr0n's point. I really didn't take Prohibition into consideration.

If I got wind of this I'd be up on a rood with a hypothetical sniper rifle ready to put a hypothetical bullet in the head of the guy signing the law.

Hypothetically..

I couldn't live without my music, life would just be too quiet and dull. So in this situation, I'd have nothing to lose.

Life withough the three M's, oh god!
Metallica, Maiden, and Muse are like my water, bread and butter!
I would just burn a cd of my favorite tunes, and hide it in a cd case full of classics.
Or head down the street to the local listeneasy (highbrow joke).

I would fight it. I would hide my iPod or something. If I couldn't hide or fight, I would... shoot myself. I can't live without music, I swear. Ironic thing is, Strapping Young Lad is the featured article on the Wiki today. Found that a bit funny, since they would probably be the first band banned (hahaha).

He DID make an excellent point. Points to you Metatr0n! Anyways, aside from that, good topic, try another one. Just make sure to check through a history book first. Ho ho ho(not a Santa reference).

I'd get really excited because this would be the ideal time to come together and oppose the goverment, but then when I went to rally the people I'd only manage to get about five on board because half of everyone else would be like "Dude, it's only politics, that's boring" and the other half would be like "Well, I already joined a Facebook group about it, can't be bothered to do anything else".

Then me and the five who joined me would get shot by Mi6.

I'd take up the violin, become a master at illegalized music, and pretend I was just really really bad at it, and the huge crowd was just there humoring me.

Music would be extremely hard to ban given it's nature. I mean you can't exactly stop a guy from humming can you?
