The reason people think old music is better is because everybody forgets about the terrible stuff.

And a few of many. So many out there but people tend to cling to their ways too much to notice them.
True. I was just naming a few great rap albums released this decade. I like to point them out when people spout off about how all rappers now (or American rappers if you're from another country) talk about is guns, drugs, bling, etc, and the only good rappers are Eminem, Beastie Boys, Run DMC, or *insert random foreign rapper name here*.

From then on, the onus is on them: either remain ignorant about their opinion and hate for the sake of hating (which most do), or accept that they don't know all there is to rap to just blindly dislike it and say the uninformed things they do about it.

Just trying to spread some understanding here.
Then it's a damn shame you are fighting a losing battle, but that's what you are doing, because I among others have been attempting this for some time, but good luck, you may have better luck than I.

Some day though, people will realise that the guns, bling and drugs don't represent rap as a whole at all.

I know it's a losing battle. But there are small victories. I'm a fan of music in general, and it's painful to hear the reasoning behind some of these opinions.

Heard it all before.
Only in a different way.
Good thing you aren't exactly 'hating' anything, just pointing some things out.

I used to be one of those narrow-minded people who thought there were only two kinds of music, Country and Crap(aka Everything Else), until my best friend started to introduce me to some different stuff. Slowly over the course of about two years I developed a taste for modern rock and metal. 10 years later my taste in music has far exceeded his. I won't automatically declare almost anything crap just because I haven't heard it before anymore.

I still can't stand to listen to stuff like The Beach Boys and Elvis and even yes The Beatles, maybe just because it's too 'clean' or 'wholesome' in the case of the first two for me. That tinny high pitched music and singing also makes my head hurt. At the same time I also reserve the right to keep some Sinatra and Dean Martin on my Zune.

What I think annoys me more than people who hate on particular genres of music just because it doesn't fit their taste are the people who claim to like certain genres and bands just to either a) fit in or b) look more eccentric than the people around them. I was friends with a guy who for most of the time I hung out with him listened to Country, same as I did until all of a sudden for no apparent reason he just developed a taste for Pink Floyd overnight. Then again he was\is a habitual lair who I later found out was banging my ex-girlfriend behind my back so maybe he's the only person like this.

I think now after I've been re-educated about musical tastes that it's actually healthy to have a liking for a wide variety of music, at least try something you never thought in a million years you would like because you might be surprised by what grabs your attention.

The Beatles are well liked in my college and many people playing music in my age group are influenced by the Beatles 1965-1969 period. I think it's a jealousy factor because everyone knows the Beatles influenced basically more bands then their favorite one. I think it pisses people off that the Beatles are still relevant with musicians and they still sell a lot records. Coldplay just on the Grammys were saluting the Beatles. How many older artists get that respect from younger bands.

As for the Beatles being wholesome yeah "Tomorrow Never Knows", "Happiness is a Warm Gun", "Revolution #9, are nice wholesome songs please. Bands that were influenced by the Beatles are ELO.Pink Floyd(syd era),Supertramp,10cc,Jethro tull,Yes, King Crimson, and all the psych-prog bands from the 60's and 70's, the Rolling Stones and all the British Invasion bands, the Byrds, The Beach Boys, folk rock, Power Pop, Radiohead, Nirvana, Britpop, and most of today's Indie Rock. Unless you are in a death metal band the Beatles will have some influence on Rock Music. It goes beyond music people are still are using the Beatles recording techniques that they used in the 60?s.

Elvis influence on today's bands admittedly is nil compared to the Beatles so you might have a point. He was still an influence on the Beatles.

You misread what I said, I find The Beach Boys and Elvis to be too wholesome. Also it's not that I have no respect for The Beatles and their influence on today's music, I just don't care to listen to their stuff in general, if it comes on the radio I don't turn the station but I don't go out of my way to listen to it either.
