So, i'm currently trying to find some new music to listen to. Unfortunately, I tend to be kind of picky about what I listen to and i'm not very good at finding music in the first place, so I figured i'd ask the good denizens of the Escapist to kindly help me out to find some new bands i'd potentially enjoy.

At the moment my two favorite bands are Kamelot and Poets of the Fall, but I also have bands like Muse, Metallica, a little bit of All That Remains, and (just to see if anyone actually recognizes them) The Flaming Tsunamis.

I thank you all in advance for your responses and look forward to hearing your suggestions, but please try to refrain from any bashing of other people's choices in music. Your choice in music is yours and any enjoyment you get from it is purely a subjective thing that you shouldn't be criticizing in other people.

Hopefully one of those will interest you! :)

That's...

That's...

That's like a note for note, word for word copy of Zebrahead's style.
I mean, imitation is the highest form of flattery, but they could have been a bit more subtle about it. I like the song, but now it rubs me the wrong way.

The closest I got is Enter Shikari, Against Me!, Between Me and The Buried *Really good band, probably the highest rated Metalcore band by critics" Cynic, Atheist and La Dispute

Other stuff somewhat close would be Radiohead, Bad Religion, Thrice and Mastodon.

Music I would recommend to any connoisseur of music would be The XX, Sigur Ros / Jonsi , Nujabes, Flaming Lips and Neutral Milk Hotel.

E nomine,Rammstein, etc. If your culture fails to produce something that isn't classified as ear arsenic then go to another country's youtube preferences

Seconded, thirded, fourthed, and fifthed.
Both are phenomenal bands. And if you like BTBAM, there are a couple others you'd probably like too.

Have you not heard of Atheist, they are like the original cynic. I would look them up if you haven't.

Also, because it hasn't been mentioned yet, try using services like Last.FM and Pandora, I personally prefer Last.FM just because it feels like a social network fusion site.

Ok, I just had a closer listen to that song you posted and I realized my use of the term 'word for word' was probably... way off. As far as tone and lyrical style, they're very close, but as far as lyrical content they're not very similar at all.

I'm not too familiar with Zebrahead's newer stuff, they changed one of their vocalists recently and the new guy is... well, from what I've heard, he's only slowly improving.

Just check out any of the singles from their earlier albums: Yellow, Waste of Mind, Playmate of the Year, MFZB. 'Rescue Me', 'Playmate of the Year', 'Mindtrip', 'Hello Tomorrow', 'Now or Never', 'The Hell that is my Life'. Lots of good stuff in there.

As far as I'm concerned, there were only ever two rap-rock bands: RATM and Zebrahead.

The lack of Beastie Boys in your statement angers and confuses me.

The Black Angels. They are a progressive/psychedelic rock band.

They remind me of The Doors.

Haha, right, I forgot them. What I was referring more to was the rap/rock fad that swept pop music in the late-90s. Beastie Boys was much much much earlier so I forgot to consider them.

Actually, you know what band sounds a damn lot like Marik2's example? POD. Rap/rock + christian themes? Yup. Those guys were an oddity, but a briefly enjoyable one. Haven't thought about them in... at least 6 years.

Well, since we seem to have some favorite bands in common, TC, I may as well recommend some of my current favorite artists...

Amaranthe - Leave Everything Behind: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jKoVgxCqA0

They're a pretty unique up-and-coming metal band from Sweden that incorporates power, death, and progressive styles into their sound.

Keldian - The Last Frontier: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IP1ng7n7oTg

Keldian is a symphonic power metal band from Norway that takes a pretty different approach to a relatively stale genre.

Angeldark - Rain: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEZCR_xs6qg

Gothic metal can be fairly stagnant, and the Spanish group Angeldark looks to break away from the mold with a more symphonic style, and they do a really good job.

I dunno, I listen to mostly electronic music.
Pendulum has one song that delves into metal.
Other than that if you want some electronica of any sort I can provide :D
