Well I don't hate you as a person for it, but that guy sounds like Strong Sad.
Is that a Strong Bad/Homestar Runner thing? I only ever played the demo for the first episode of the game. I kind of sing a lot like him, so I guess I sound like whatever that is too...

Film (and game) soundtracks. Nobody I know makes fun of them. Mostly because I never bring it up, but...

Actually, here's an image that sums it up for me.

yeah, I love nine inch nails, and I also noticed the "80's sound" of his first album (which obviously isnt around in his later work)

anyway ok then, what are theyre best albums?
In my opinion, the list goes as follows.

Remission (1984)
Bites (1985)
Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse (1986)
Vivi sect VI (1988)
Too Dark Park (1990)

They have more recent albums such as Mythmaker and The Greater Right of the Wrong, which are also good and very ambitious, but are missing that old 80's sound, which is what I prefer.

Edit: misspelled an album.

If you don't like the Beatles or have never heard of it, you will face a wave of angry people. Trust me, if you even hint that you don't like or have never heard of them you will want to lock yourself in your room for a few weeks.

And that's pretty damn sad. As shown by a few Escapist threads I read during my time here.

Life becomes a lot easier when you don't give a crap what people think of your musical tastes, or that of anything of that sort.

Just throwing that out there.

"The Best EVAH" is determined by whomever is forty years old at the time. Listen to what's playing in the thoroughfares these days. It' been shifting from '60s to '70s to '80s. I swear, if I hear She Blinded me With Science one more time, you'll hear the sound of a rusty gate closing, and then my head will just roll onto the floor.

.
ahhh now THAT was exactally what I was trying to say in this thread, older stuff gets all the praise

I don't listen to genres. I listen to individual songs or artists I like. And what constitutes what I like is as varied as it gets. Classical (as in dead white composers), techno, classic rock (I'm a sucker for a good power ballad), some punk, Celtic, etc., etc., etc.

Like what you like. Listen to as many different kinds of music as you can to find what is out there to like. Enjoy the soundtrack of life! :)

<extra-tight hug> SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTAAAAAAANDS

OT: I've not met a single person who disliked Bjork. Not everyone LIKES her, but no one that I can find hates her.

Personally, I like her, although I prefer classical/soundtrack.

No. I refuse to accept Metallica as a music source. I'm not even a hater of that genre, there songs just plain don't end when they should.

The only thing I really don't accept as music is rap, and pretty much all Death Metal.

I don't know any universally liked music. I think everybody likes the (whoops) upbeat Reggae songs. Don't know anybody who hates "Don't worry be happy"

Err, Queen?

Everyone likes Queen right? Or at least doesn't hate them.
My sister, for a school function, had to sing a Queen medley. With a lot of poorly-chosen songs, which should have been a lot more avoidable since it was an all-girls school. She's sworn that she never wants to listen to Queen ever again in her life.

What annoys me more about when I listen to a soundtrack (in this case the TRON:Legacy soundtrack) the people who say stuff like, "The only good song is Derezzed, the rest is just 1 minute bass beats." *strangle*

There is no type of music that is universally liked. The closest thing, by definition, is whatever qualifies as "popular music" for the time period.

I will say, however, that rap is not an acceptable form for anyone to like because it is almost OBJECTIVELY NOT MUSIC. Seriously, the only part of it people care about is the lyrics, which is just poetry. If the only important component of a "musical genre" is a non-musical component, how can you honestly classify it as music?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Definition_of_music

You should let these guys know that you've managed to nail down an objective definition for something that philosophers have been debating for years.

It'd be good for them to know.

Haha it is funny that you say that. Because I have a couple of friends who like rap music, one who likes modern stuff and another who is into classic songs and old rock. The only one we bag the is the one who likes old stuff... I guess it just depends on who you hang around with. As an example he absolutely loves piano man and every time he plays it we all turn it off and bag him about it.

"Universally" but only by certain people. i.e, Gaming is universally liked by gamers, so a music genre or band would be universally liked (theoretically) by its own fanbase.

Personally I listen to Metal, lots of it, and no the blast beat screamo, real metal like 3IOB and ManoWar, Iced Earth, Pyramaze etc.
Hopefully not being offensive but isn't what you said kind of meaningless. I mean gamers are gamers because they like games, so saying that games are universally liked by gamers is kind of blatantly obvious. Maybe you meant something else and I couldn't follow but yeh...

Like I was trying to use the gamer analogy as a way of saying that a fanbase of something would universally like something.

...Sounded a lot better in my mind, very tired :p
