Some 'classical' vocals:Nickolai77 said:Classical music is good, the only reason why i don't listen to it that often is because it tends to lack vocals. I just like songs with clear vocals, (and tbh, i love the sound of electric guitars) but that's all a personal preference of mine. But just because classical music doesn't fulfill my personal preferences doesn't mean i don't respect that genre of music.
The extremely large majority of people I see post on this forum generally in any given thread about this topic (and it comes up about once a month) are saying that new music is crap and old music is better.Mundjra95 said:I'm only young, but I do appreciate the older music from much before my time, but why do other people see this old music as being bad? Most of the time this stuff is better than the crap we have now.
So, what do you think? Does old mean bad?? And also post any particular favouites you may have
For me, some Dean Martin and Creedence Clearwater Revival. There are others but yeah XD
Cheers
This is completely untrue.Mundjra95 said:I'm only young, but I do appreciate the older music from much before my time, but why do other people see this old music as being bad?
Oh, be quiet. This is merely due to the fact that the crap we had then has been (mostly) forgotten. And as for 'the crap we have now', well, look harder. There are plenty of great artists around now.Mundjra95 said:Most of the time this stuff is better than the crap we have now.
I agree, most of the people that I've talked to are like that. And me too to an extent. But I guess that he spends most of his time with his younger friends who usually are the other way-round.Fraught said:First you ask why "other people" see "this" old music as being bad (which is wrong, most people are biased towards older music
Out of the three, i preferred Sind Blitz, Sind Donner. The problem with the other two was that personally i found the vocals to operatic. I have no doubt that the operatic vocal style takes a lot of talent and skill to master , but i find the general tone too drawn out, slow and mournful. Great for elegy's, but i wouldn't want to listen to elegy's all day.arugulino said:*snip*
If Popular music of today is supposed to relate to my life, I missed a damn memo somewhere along the line. Most music today is lyrical to the extreme (and in a bad way). Not in the sense that's it's not terribly "musical" (that's not the point here), but that it's like lyric poetry. Bad poetry. Some lyrics are good, but lyrical brought the focus from the broad to the specific: specifically the emotions of a single individual, the writer. Grand. Not necessarily a bad thing, but factor in the "90% of everything is crap" rule and most writers out there suck. Okay, ranting a bit: what I mean is that popular music today often has incomprehensible lyrics when taken as a whole that only take on some semblance of meaning when the words are coupled with the notes usually bringing emphasis to some catchy though nonsensical phrase. Drives me mad.Swaki said:well music has evolved a great bit, i was never a music fan but i can understand why people prefer the newer music, its the music of their generation, its about themes and problems they can relate to, take opera for an example (you never mentioned how long back your taste takes you) few people can relate to not marrying the girl of your dreams because her dad is a merchant and you are a farmer, but if you simplify enough you can still relate to it today, but if the "old" music you like is only from the 60-80s then you are in the majority.
either way there are some great forums for all genres and times, so if you are really interested in finding more music from that era i would suggest seeking some of them out.
I hadn't heard that Nocturne before. It's beautiful.KaosuHamoni said:I see your Nocturne, and I raise you a Nocturne, AND a Polonaise!
I see you, and raise you two Preludes.bl4ckh4wk64 said:I hadn't heard that Nocturne before. It's beautiful.
I see those and raise you a Nocturne and a Ballade
Those sound more like Heavy Metal lyrics than something for an Orchestra.arugulino said:"Sind Blitze, sind Donner" (JS Bach)
Sind Blitze, sind Donner in Wolken verschwunden?
Eröffne den feurigen Abgrund, o Hölle,
Zertrümmre, verderbe, verschlinge, zerschelle
Mit plötzlicher Wut
Den falschen Verräter, das mördrische Blut!
Hath lightning, hath thunder in clouds fully vanished?
Lay open thy fire's raging chasm, O hell, then,
Now ruin, demolish, devour, now shatter
With suddenmost wrath
The lying betrayer, that murderous blood!
