Yeah, I do this as well, especially with pop music. I've just seen so many people defend it, I've gotten fed up the genre because I can't seem to find anybody that enjoys it that has a long thought process.
Hi, nice to meet you. I'm Joe.

I have complex thoughts and opinions.

I happen to love pop music.

It would appear people are typing their musical tatses and asking others to attempt to define their personality, this sounds like a rather amusing way to pass the time, I shall join in.

Classical
Techno
Rock
Some Metal
J-Pop
Bagpipes (Not quite sure what that would qualify as)

Give it a shot, what am I?

I didn't mean that to be mean, I'm just saying I haven't met anyone personally that does. I'm well aware they're people out there that do, its just they don't happen to live near me. Hell, where I live, if don't listen to country or pop, your some kind of freak. The pop group is the "rebels" and country is the "norm." The pop people always try that "I'm hip and cool" bullshit, I've just gotten fed up with the genre as a whole, that sound nicer to you?

This Providence are just a bit awesome, I don't really like the other bands you but up.

OT: I only dislike people who refuse to listen to a new type of music because it's 'gay' or 'shit'. Personally there isn't much of a correlation between intelligence and preferred music genre, but thanks to a few groups of society, it is there.

well, sometimes, yes. for instance when someone listens lifelover, you know he isn't listening at something else, seeing they're quite busy listening to Lifelover

Most of the music I listen to is pretty mellow, and I'm pretty mellow so, yeah! But I'm also known to spazz out from time to time, it must be the little metal that I actually like "Curse you Black Sabbath!"

I was thinking about the significantly diverse bands that I listen to (The Fall of Troy, Hellogoodbye, This Providence, Regina Spektor), and it made me think about how judgemental I can be of people that listen to certain types of music; I often instantly label people that listen to dance music and hip hop as intellectually inferior, those that listen to Death Metal as academically lackadaisical, those that listen to acoustic as attempting to appear deep and emotional (I would like it noted that I listen to at least a little of all these genres myself, so yes I'm a giant hypocrite).

I was wondering how much the escapists think you can tell about a person by the type of music they listen to. Do certain genres imply certain personalities to you?

If you'd like to sum me up using genres, this is what I listen to nearly all of the time:
The Fall of Troy
Hellogoodbye
This Providence

(I also highly suggest you look these bands up. Maybe not This Providence, that's just me, but the other two are lifelong lovers of mine.)

Oh, and I do get to know people and reevaluate my thoughts on them, it's just first impressions when talking about music.
I listen to Acoustic and I actually am deep and emotional. At least when no one else is around...
