i mute those who wreck the game. if they think they ae gods gift to games - mute
if they wont shut up about someone ending their killstrak or something - mute
12 year old screaming down the mic - mute

i think younger gamers get allot of grief though, just because they are unintentialy annoying doesn't make em bad. i got 3 on my friends list (they added me) and they do actaully use their mics respectfully. i for one was realy suprizes. it gave me hope for the future of gaming :D
Same here. I also hate it when i can hear their music in my headset. I dont care what kind of music it is, it will all ways be annoying due to the severe decrease in quality, and it makes it hard to hear other people.

I find myself muting everyone in a game before it begins. The only time i dont is when i play with friends.

I don't need to mute them. I can just place my mic next to a tumble drier and I win the verbal assassins contest.

I only mute people if they annoy me. So really I only mute the sqeakers and music spammers unless the music is good, then I spare them.

Usually I leave them unmuted, it can get hilarious when two mic spammers or trash talkers get into an argument. But if someone is mic spamming and i cant stand it i definitely mute them.

Xbox I mute ppl because they are often rude/stupid/spammers/annoying.
PS3 I mute ppl because their are more foreign languages being spoken, and I dislike not understanding wtf is being said.
Antisocial ftw, if their was a default mute all button in settings I'd abuse it.

on the PC, people on the mic or the typers are less abusive than the xbox players.
I have played on the PS3 for resistance and have found less abuse. I haven't tried MAG yet, so I don't know if the abuse has gone up for the PS3.

I play borderlands on the xbox and I don't find the hatespeech and constant ridicule that you find on Halo or CoD games. I think the competitive play breeds the hateful mess that we do not appreciate.

I usually mute little kids and douchebags. If I join a game and all I hear is people who are bitching about losing or having their kill stolen then they get muted. Basically this, http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2004/3/19/

I mute people who give running commentaries on the game, and those that play music in the background.

On MAG I tend to leave it on as people are willing to work together more, only muted a couple of people.

I typically play with voice comms off, but since I only play online on PC, that's almost a given. I only use my mic when heavy co-op is needed, like L4D2, or if I'm chatting to non-randoms.

Oh, do tell. A hunch of mine says there's a good story behind this.

I only ever mute people AFTER they've started being a douche.
Although it is annoying to hear 12 year olds insulting each others mums, sometimes you do get some fucking hilarious conversations :')
also, every now and then, you get someone who utilises a strategy other than ZOMFGKILDABASTARD! and working with them makes the game a whole lot simpler

Oh, do tell. A hunch of mine says there's a good story behind this.
A few mates and I were playing on sub base in Modern Warfare 2, when my friend, Joey, is the last kill of a game.
Now, it's all for fun, but I could clearly see that the clan member who had scored the kill was camping with some buddies by the loading docks. He had been doing that for some 10 minutes.
Likewise, I don't care if you get the last kill. Brag all you want, but insulting someone who cannot aptly defend themselves sets me over the edge.

Naturally, they did just that. "Pussy ass *****," "Noob," All that. Joey doesn't have a mic, and he's naturally pretty self-conscious when it comes to getting insulted; his self esteem is... Er.. Rather nonexistent.
I responded with "Big talk, maybe next time you'll move around a little? I've seen you and your four buddies in that same spot for the entire game."

Before I could even blink, their mouths opened to incoherent babble and screaming the likes of which could deafen a mere mortal.
Their idiocy could drive those who were unprepared to sheer madness.

Clans in CoD have usually always flaunted that "Holier than thou" attitude in the past, but that was the one time they legitimately annoyed me. They (meaning most of them) are unfamiliar with the concept of functioning as an individual, so they play follow the leader. Debating with a legitimate point only earns you screaming and swearing in return.
Now, I just mute em all, because I don't want to deal with their obnoxious attitudes - whether it's directed at me or somebody else.

I mute people on MW2 BEFORE THEY EVER SPEAK.

Worst. Community. Ever.

I started entering matches and IMMEDIATELY muting everyone. I haven't heard someone speak in over a month! :D
