My words exactly.

*Insert comment saying that looking for a gaming conspiracy and discussing it here is a bad idea.*

Go to Metacritic, and look at the numbers. They don't lie...Much.

The game isn't really good, it's good, it's better than mediocre, but not awesome. Obviously he's not going to be the only one to think the game isn't as good as what it's made up to be.

Oh yeah, IMO.

OT: I think it's ass kissing, I mean not one of my friends has said it's a crap game, but they've all still regretted not waiting to buy a cheaper pre-owned version. Definatly overhyped.

You do know that fourzerotwo is one of the main developers of the game, right? Do you honestly expect him to put down something he's probably worked hundreds of hours on and has little control over? Damn Activision is the next EA. This isn't a review, it's some game dev trying to quell the tsunami created by the news that dedicated servers will not be a part of MW2.

EDIT:
That's not a review. That's one of the developers promoting the game that needs to sell if he wants to make money. So that facet of your argument is pretty much lose.
This guy nailed it.

Gaming sites such as IGN, Gamespot can't actually tell you what they REALLY think about a game.

IGN did it once and EA threw a tantrum and stopped advertising at IGN for a while (revenue loss) and then denied IGN access to some of their exclusive events. Now IGN licks the ass of any big developer.

The big companies advertising pay to keep IGN alive, not Joe and Jane Average gamer.

Actually, its a mix of both. Big companies pay IGN and Gamespot(and whatever else) to advertise on their websites. They do this because they see the amount of traffic those websites get. This is why they pay them the money.

People like us do, in fact, pay for IGN to keep running. Without us, big companies would have no incentive to pay them big money to put their ads up.

any media related to any industry does ass kissing because if they do otherwise, they lose their sweet insider perks and exclusives... I would give examples, but John Stewart does a great job explaining how it works with wallstreet and the financial networks when it came to the economic collapse and the 'experts' too busy ass kissing to see it coming

I agree with InternetKraken, my brother plays online and he loves it, and I played offline and I love it, just because your opinion is different doesn't make it a bad game, just makes it a bad game for you.
you've said it! wow no joke lol =)

This.
I mean, I like the game a lot, it's a 10 in my book.
Not to say that I trust IGN and Gamespot but I think that MW2 is a wonderful game.

Went to IGN and read the MW2 review and saw the lovely 9.5 rating it got from their reviewers and it just got me wondering if the media is just kissing ass or if producers are just paying the media to say whatever they want...

Also read this lovely review that I can't help but disagree with :

I've already gotten issues with connecting to IWNet too, which just thrills me...

and this guy's argument about the game setting the matches up for you and making it simple is just stupid... How hard is it to scroll through the server list to find a server with low ping? It's written on the right hand side... u have to be a moron to not be able to locate a low ping server (or on dial-up).
They are kissing serious ass. If the little fanboys dont get told what they want to hear about a game they boycott the site and thats bad for the site owner. So reviewers gotta kiss ass if they want to keep thier jobs. It's sad I know. It's sad that reviewers cant give their honest opinion about a game because they fear for thier job.

The opposite is also possible: Perhaps it really just sucks, but because you like it, you don't think so.

I wouldn't be surprised, with all the hype it got, that the scores have been artificially inflated a bit.
The only problem with your theory is that I don't like it. But I do understand as to why other people enjoy it.
Indeed. I would be one of those people.

I loved the single player campaign, and though the multiplayer gives me anal herpes with its lag and host advantage, it is still great fun with a bunch of buddies in a private lobby.

I think a lot of the people who claim MW2 sucks without having even played it are being a little narrow minded.

Then again, this is the internet, what do we expect?

Oh, it's just another FPS. Of course they're kissing ass.

I mean, don't get me wrong. It's a relatively awesome FPS, but it's nothing you haven't played before.

It might be a shining example of pure awesomeness if there weren't already countless numbers of FPS games available to us Americans.

This argument is invalid because a game can't simply suck. People can believe that a game sucks, and they're entitled to their opinion. But if someone thinks a game is good, they can't possibly wrong, because it's their opinion.

The problem here is that some people just don't like Modern Warfare 2, and some people do. These two groups don't seem to understand each other, causing all these bullshit flame wars.
Your argument is also invalid, because an opinion isn't inherently incapable of being wrong.

I could hold the opinion that the Earth is 6,000 years old, and I would be provably wrong.
Or that the Moon is made of cheese.
I would also be wrong.
There's a difference between being misinformed and having an incorrect opinion. If opinions were the same as facts, no cases would ever be settled in courts because nobody could prove someone else's opinion to be wrong.

If, for example, I said that the Earth is a pretty alright planet, you couldn't argue with that because there's no universally accepted method for evaluating planets, just as there's no universally accepted method for evaluating games that isn't altered at all by someone's opinion.

True, but ever notice how games made by huge companies never get bad reviews by the media (overall)?

that should of been the thread, but no people have to argue about differences of oponion, people agree to disagree.
