P90s for everyone!
Add a Silencer, Kick. Slight of Hand, Hardline and Steady Aim and I run around blasting everyone in the face from the hip.

Much fun.

third perks do a lot in MW3 and it's difficult to choose. I Use Stalker or dead silence
Use Specialist or assault pointstreaks
use the:
type 95
M16A4
ACR 6.8
PPM101 (whatever that SMG's name is)
UMP45
(most over powered guns, you're definintely better off using one of these guns)

Sleight of hand or scavenger
assassin (for assault killstreaks)
Hardline (for specialist) for your first pointstreak perk reward put on assassin that way it's only one kill to get assassin (or 2 assists if you have hardline pro)

Basically I do everything to up my firing and maneuverability speed, so I generally use Stalker pro, sleight of hand pro and quickdraw pro, it makes a major difference when you can quickly recover from things like throwing tactical and offensive grenades, switching weapons and faster moving with aiming. I also generally use tac inserts and claymores, tac inserts let you bypass the terrible spawn system so you dont get spawn killed so much, just place it somewhere out of the field of vision, and claymores are great for that random kill, and they also click if someone triggers it and it doesnt explode, so you know someone just ran by it so you know to head that way or turn it around if your using it like a rear guard. If your using fake care packages, throw them at the same place that an enemy care package gets called in, other enemies wont know which one it is and blow themselves up. and they can also be used as a sniper lure, throw one out and head shot everyone who goes for it. EMP's are great for calling in right when the enemy calls in something good like an AC-130 or a Osprey Drop.

Any submachine gun has rapid fire which can make a major difference in game, also dont put silencers on sniper rifles unless your really good at head shots as they reduce your one shot kill capacity.

There are all sorts of things you can do just work at it.

2. sensitivity: keep it 2-4 this is what MLG players use as a low sensitivity allows you to be more accurate especially over long range and lead to you winning more gun fights
On the other hand high sensitivity; once you get used to it, can let you react really fast to things.

what works for me?

The P90 is my best friend. When used with steady aim I can just run around spraying at the first person I see without bothering to aim down my sights. Works surprisingly well at medium distances as well as up close.
Marathon works quite well allowing you to keep as mobile as possible, maybe swap it for scavenger, but the P90 has plenty of ammo anyway, so I trend not to bother with it.
Your red perk? Assassin can be good, but unless i'm using a suppressor I stick with the blast shield type one (can't remember its name) since once once its pro its helps negate flash and stun as well.
Rapid fire or extended mags are both good choices, as well add more stability.
support kill streak with counter uav, advanced uav and emp, to immobilise your opponent whilst still knowing their location.

hope some of this helps

Well, for starters they've really reduced the amount of viable playstyles available. In MW3 you could go Marathon-Lightweight-Commando and go knife everyone, you could get Danger Close and tube everyone to hell, etc. But now pretty much the only thing you can do is walk around with the AR/SMG of your choice, maybe even a shotgun sometimes.
In terms of ARs ACR is a good choice, MK14 is like a rapid-firing sniper rifle - it's very accurate but single fire.
MP7 is the only SMG anyone uses once they unlock it.
If you've ever used SPAS in MW2 and enjoyed getting one-shot kills form across the map(like I did) you're in for a big disappointment because they nerfed the SPAS to no end. Now the Striker is pretty much the only useful shotgun.
For secondaries, FMGs are the best, especially akimbo, but because they are the best, they are generally considered the cheapest weapon in the game, so get ready for people getting butthurt if you use them.

The Type 95, as the only other three-burst fire weapon, is a brilliant gun for killing people at range without difficulty and it's also pretty awesome at close range. The downside is it makes you a ****.
Don't forget FMG9 akimbo.(using it is only excusable when you are just starting out) You will be able to tear though you're opponents, but you will instantly be labeled as a giant bastard with no real skill. The Striker and PP90 could also be put in that category, but I haven't sworn to never use them like I have the Type 95 and FMG9.

My suggestion is to try out the different guns with different loadouts until you find what works best for you.

One I like doing though is setting up different classes for different jobs. For example, my heavy class is equipped with an LMG(most of which I suggest throwing a grip on) and rocket launcher, add Blind Eye Pro and you've got instant rapeage of the enemy's air support. For my CQC class I always have a shotgun and I usually have the overkill perk on so that I can also tote an SMG around for when I get caught at medium to long range. I also suggest the scavenger perk on any class using most of the shotguns or SMGs because you will run out of ammo faster than you think.

on MW3 the guns kill so fast you just die before you can respond unless the other guy is really terrible, MLG players use 2-4 for a reason, you will get much more use out of being able to easily pick someone off on the other side of the map (I know this can be done on high sensitivity but its harder) than being able to turn on someone quickly (unless you rush constantly, which is inadvisable for new/bad players anyway)

the high sensitivity stuff comes from snipers like hutch and from halo players but its bad advice and really hurts new/bad players trying to play on 10 sensitivity, that guy who you play with/against who can barely shoot anything? id bet money hes running a high sensitivity
You make a good point, I do tend to rush constantly with short range weapons, and generally stay scoped in and take careful shots with snipers, and thats pretty much all I use.

I'll have to try it at a lower sensitivity

Thanks everyone for the tips, although I'm still baffled as to how "playing another game" is a good tip in getting better at MW3.

The P90 was my fav weapon in CoD MW2, I don't think I have it unlocked in MW3 though :(

Right, I'm playing it now, with all the tips you guys have given me... here we go

1. Play something else (HOHOHOHO so original)
2. Most definitely don't play on PC (*starts having flashbacks to all the hacked games*)
3. Play Kill confirmed because it's better than TDM

As someone who has played all of the Call of Duty games, including the modern ones, yes, Modern Warfare 3 is almost EXACTLY like Modern Warfare 2.

Tips and tricks: Grab a weapon and shoot. Keep doing this until your reaction time becomes ungodly. Profit.

I play as a sneaky type. I forget the perks, but the ones that make you invisible on radar and heartbeat sensors plus the dead silence perk.
I use an MP5 silenced and go on killing sprees.

Edit: Oh, and I also use the support killstreaks with UAV, Counter UAV, and SAM. That way I'll usually get through all three kill streaks at least once in a match, usually use UAV and Counter UAV twice.

You pick the weapon of your choice, point it at the nearest squishy lifeform with red text above their head and hold down the trigger until they stop moving.

if you want ALL OF THE XP, go into ground war, and run the recon drone. You'll get an extra 1K+ XP PER ROUND, at least.

Hmm. I haven't got/played MW3, but I did play MW2 a great deal, as well as Blops and BC2 to some degree.

In both MW2 and Blops, I favoured a stealthy approach and using the terrain and my cammo to remain undetected by UAV's, various killstreaks and from the very enemies I was fighting.

I know that MW3's perks have been changed a great deal, but if I was to play it today I'd still focus on Blind Eye, Assassin and Dead Silence, along with a silenced weapon of some kind.

I've always found that the element of surprise and minimising the enemy's ability to detect you was more beneficial to my playstyle than going for more accuracy or damage. However, everyone is different and has different playstyles.

The main issue with all FPS games is positioning. A good portion of any FPS requires the use of good strategic and tactical positioning and awareness of the most likely areas and ways in which the enemy will hide/move through. High traffic areas in general you wish to avoid. You'll want to be on the outside of the map unless you're playing a more teambased game such as DOM or CTF.
You need to be aware of the sightlines in all the maps you play, and try to minimise your travelling time in open ground and always try to pick a route that gives you the best possible protection when reaching your goal. Knowing the sightlines allows you to predict how and where a potential enemy can strike from.

Also, I'd like to say that knowing when to retreat and when to attack is important too. Don't try to take on 4 people at the same time and charge them. Nine times out of ten it simply won't work. If you don't hold the advantage in a situaion retreat and regroup. Chances are the enemy will smell blood and try to chase you; you can then capitalise on this.

Be aware of flanking and counter-flanking maneuvers and act accordingly. If your teammates are attacking/defending a certain point, keep a look out on the other paths and routes to your location so you can cover them and don't leave yourself or your flanks open. Try and protect your blindspots by utilising sentries, claymores and other equipment. One tactic I used to use was laying down claymores to protect my blindspot. If it went off, regardless of whether or not it killed the person, I knew that I was in danger and could act accordingly.

Sounding was also for me very important. Knowing who is where was important to my playstyle. Everytime I heard a sound of someone running, moving or reloading I would reference that sound to the UAV's information. If a teammate was nearby the area that the sound originated you can breathe easy; if there isn't a teammate close to that area, try and predict where the enemy will come from and put yourself in the best position you can in order to attack them.

This is fairly basic stuff, but I hope it helps. Remember though that at the end of the day, you learn from experience, even if it does take hundreds or thousands of repetitions to do or understand something correctly. Be positive, keep calm and play the game :D

OK, pro tip always keep an eye on those heat sinks, if you shut down in the middle of a battle it is all over for you.
Also try and stay close to cover before engaging anyone at high range, so if they pull out some mad trick you haven't seen before you can take a step back and sort the mech out for the next encounter.
Or if you are really good go at it at full speed, get on their back and just lay down the pain, most people are used to just dealing with long range targets and break down when it gets up close and personal.
All excellent tips.

Also, OP, I hesitate to recommend this because it is kind of a freebirth move to pull, but have you tried legging? Unlike a lot (all?) of the other MW games, legging is instantly lethal in MW3. Leg armor is generally substantially weaker than torso armor.
This is why, if you're sole goal is to win, the best thing to do is go into battle with one of the fastest scout or medium mechs you can get equipped with a Gauss or two.

A few well placed shots to the knee and you'll take down even the most threatening of the assault-class mechs.

'Course, you could also do the honorable thing and just walk into battle with a 70+ ton missile-boat.

I'd say try hardcore. because in softcore, there are some shit weapons, some good weapons and a lot of absolutely bullshit weapons. the PP90M1, akimbo FMG9s, akimbo G18s, the Type 95, the striker, and others, all bullshit and completely unbalanced. In hardcore the reduced health levels out the playing field significantly. Been playing HC since CoD4 and only play SC because I have friends who don't like it. Funnily enough they're the ones that use those weapons I mentioned.

INCOMING RANT:

I really hope the next CoD has servers, because I am sick and tired of bunnyhoppers. If you can't aim fast enough to kill someone without jumping, you're doing it wrong. Go play Quake or something, where you're supposed to be jumping around like a rabbit on speed. I like my CoD tactical.

Haha, that's why a Jenner II-C laser boat is secretly the best mech in MW2. You zig-zag around with jump-jets and basically do this:
