You know the story, you're having a conversation with a friend and they bring up that their friend is royalty/child to an oil baron/created an invention that sells millions.

We, of course, know this is total and utter bull, but everyone's heard it.
Personally I've heard "my friend created a real lightsaber" and "my friend is the son of an ambassador."

Was wondering if anyone else has heard any other funny ones?

I haven't heard anything like that since I was in middle school. Even at that time i would call bullshit on it.

...

Might've been why I've gotten so many shots in the jaw...

I heard a lot of it in secondary school but strangely the lightsaber one is recent.

There's some kid at my school that lies compulsively. I could write a novel about him if his life was half as interesting as he says it is.

Yeah, he's a douche bag.

Kinda... but he didn't lie... He was going to inherit 7 million kronor(=1000000USD) from his uncle when he became 18... and he did...

My 'friend' said he met the members of Metallica and told me he could get me a signed copy of Death Magnetic, addressed with the following wording:
"Dear Johnny Terror [my brother], with Metallica's apologies for St. Anger."

I'm still waiting on that one.

I think I'm usually the one telling stories like that, only they're not that outrageous and I forgot them all but I'm pretty sure I've told one or two. Hell, knowing me some of 'em might've been based in truth...?

"I know [person's name I can't remember]. He records albums for [rapper I can't remember]."

I'm unusually good at reading faces, though, and most of my friends know this. One of my friends in particular is a horrible liar, but even a deaf person can tell he's lying most of the time.

My Tang Soo Do instructor once shook hands with Chuck Norris. I'm not kidding:

http://www.amkorkarate.com/friends.htm (this link is working, right?)

I also knew this guy who claimed to be descended from the bastard son of a French king. I highly doubt that, though.

Considering royalty in the past, it wouldn't be surprising. Half the people I know are blue-blood by some minuscule denomination.

And with several friend who are compulsive liars, it's not hard to hear one or two in my time. Most of those however, relate to things other than "ZOMG CELEBRITY!!" and are more based around things that need to be done and haven't.

That said, here's one of my favourite.

From a friend who was 17. "I went to a Pink Floyd gig in Athens once..."

Oh, I've got a great one.
Two years ago in 7th grade, back when Gears of War was the new Halo, A friend of mine, along with two other kids, started lying that they got beta copies of Gears II and that kid #1 was the nephew of Bill Gates. I didn't believe one bit of it, but to test him, I asked if that beta came with achievements, at which point he confirmed, but refused to reveal his gamer-tag.

P.S.: This kid also claimed that there was a new character named General Hopkins, obviously a direct rip-off of Colonel Hoffman.

We have one too, he was in my class then he failed.
Then moved away for 3 years.
And now he's back.

Anyway, my best friends are twins. Yeah, I bet you can't beat that!

But I do have a friend who is the son of an ambassador.

If you go to university & befriend a student from a war-torn or third world country, then chance are they will be the son of an ambassador, or general or somebody important & powerful enough to be able to afford to send their children to be educated in the west.

But I do remember someone I knew as a kid who claimed their dad had a real Millennium Falcon parked in his garage.
