Excited over having just picked up Demon's Souls and looking forward into crashing into a friends game and Archerying all over their face, I put in the disk and fire up the PS3. After the epic intro video, it prompts me for my PSN password and then the PS3 blinks red, green, and then a bright green, and shuts off...

"Was that supposed to happen?" asked my buddy, sitting on the other couch. "No Idea man, lets check online."

Apparently, the blinking red light is the PS3's version of the RROD. My PS3 has officially died before my (much more used) original launch XBox 360. How bizarre is that?

Just felt like sharing.

POuch. Does PS3 have a warrently or a place you can get it replaired? Really Sony and Microsoft should make sure these things dont happen. I had my ps2 for 6/7 year and nothing has happened 9okay, it is a little slower).

It's actually three years. Which if you buy a 360 now, that's probably going to be the rest of the consoles life

Ontopic: I'm sure you could call Sony up and have them repair it for less then buying a new one

See? Let this serve as a warning to everyone that just because you bought a PS3 doesn't mean that irony won't come and bite you in the ass.

Seriously though, the OP has my sympathy (it sucks when your console or PC just randomly gives in for no apparant reason, I should know, I've been through three 360's, two PS2's and two PC's in the space of five years).

Its been shortend apperntly, they give it 6months now or something if its a E74 error (I read it on xbox.com after my xbox for E74'd). RROD is 3 years.

Ahh okay, well it's better than the 1 year standard warranty anyway, and if you get an Xbox Elite it lasts quite a while anyway.

Sony did something silly, they stopped the 60GB.

Im assuming you have an 80GB, that is the most prone to break.

If you decide to sell that PS3 and get a new one, look for a 60GB, i've had mine for...Well when it was released in Britain.

Red-green-green or red-green-red?..

You sound like you work in a bomb squad.

PS3 died before X360 bought at the same time. I sense disturbance in the Force.

I've had my PS3 and my 360 die on me, both were fixed for free by their respective manufacturer after an intense ***** out session on my part. All I can offer as far as advice goes is that "The squeaky wheel gets the grease". Call and complain...a lot, and if the CSR gives you grief speak to a manager, if they give you grief keep going up the chain until you get what you want.

I feel bad for you but the only thought going through my head right now is showing this thread to as many PS3 fanboys as possible.

Mmm i reconed the owner of a 360 could not be held accountable for 'general hardware failure' but I think it's actually a three year warrenty.

I have to wonder with all these console hardware faults do you people actualy maintain your machines? Not that I'm claiming to know what the general cause of these faults are I dont but considering a majority of problems are caused by dust buildup or bad ventilation well it seems a common mistake most people dont notice or take the time to check. I mean hell a 5 minute dust a day and keeping hardware near an open window just seems like common sense to me and Im still running a launch day ps2, launch day ps3 wihtout fault.

No scratch that seems I'm bang on about the cause of the YLOD clean your damned fan out.

Before getting to hasty you might want to just clean the dust from the filter. All you have to do is open up your PS and go over it with a vacuum cleaner. It worked for me,you might wna tot try that out.

Amen brother, can I get a witness. I see consoles and computers sitting caked in dust and wonder when the last time these people cleaned out their systems. A simple can of compressed air and blam, extended system life. Though since I have had both systems die on me at least once, I guess there are just some generic hardware failures as well..
