Well...at least we're allowed to hug in my school. But...we're not allowed on 90% of websites for some reason.

Sorry bro, but until your school starts putting kids in cages or running fight clubs you haven't hit "batshit insanity." http://www.cracked.com/article_18587_8-real-grade-schools-that-went-completely-insane.html

My high-school planner read, quote: As a Christian facility we will show love and respect to others. There will be no hugging, kissing or hand-holding.

We used to get sent home for wearing trainers. And we weren't allowed inside the building whenever it was pissing down with rain, which was always because it's Scotland.

There are few feelings more miserable in life than trying to give a shit about tectonic plates and fault lines when you are literally soaked through like you've just been ripped by a riot hose.

How about that whole "No Hats" rule every school has but makes no fucking sense and is only there as a way for the school to assert it's power over it's student.

Beyond that my School doesn't have any overly stupid rules.

My school has made a few pretty bad decisions in the recent years. we all do exams a year early and over 1 year (despite them being made for 2 years and most universities only accept 1 years worth), firing all but 1 geography teacher, not letting pupils use a gate to go home/to the shops at lunch (for food) and cracking down on full-contact sports.

but now, they have taken that final step. SMT[footnote]Senior Management Team[/footnote] has snapped.

we arent allowed to hug any more.
or, more specifically, guys arent allowed to hug people. because theyre insane.
and no, i am not making this up. one of my friends got a warning for hugging another guy.

so Escapists, i ask of ye, what are your opinions on this?
and has your schools SMT ever done something this insane?
My school has had this for a long time. It's called PDA or Public Display of Affection. Though most teachers aren't very strict about it.

Do this to the person who put in the rule.
In all seriousness this is a really stupid rule and why does it only apply to males?

Just get a pact with every other guy in the school that says every time a teacher walks by in the hallways you all have to find the nearest guy to you, and embrace them tightly whilst singing 'Guy Love' from Scrubs. Keep doing this until they just give up.

Passive resistance ftw.
That... would be brilliant. Love to see the teachers face after that.

They did this at my old charter school for a while. The administration got so much flak that they played the blame game for a couple of weeks before repealing the policy changes.

Why no gameboys and their ilk during lunch? I don't believe they provide board games anymore to occupy the free time between finishing food and the start of the next class. Not everyone is into card games, drawing or sports. Furthermore, some people just don't have a lot of friends, and therefore would be sitting alone, pondering the reasons why they aren't having any fun. Maybe there's a greater incidence of theft? Iunno, man. I just don't see why someone on a gaming site would be against people gaming in their free time.
After reading your response it sounds like our schools handled lunch differently. At my high school, lunch was 30 minutes. It was just enough time to get to the cafeteria, eat your food, and return, with maybe a few minutes to spare. So you really didn't have free time during lunch. If you wanted to play a GBA, it meant you were not eating lunch, would be a problem in itself. Understand that the main reason for no GBAs or their likeat our school, is due to kids using them during class, not so much using them during lunch.
I always had at least 15 minutes to myself over lunch after food, personally. But I see where you're coming from, if a child isn't eating so that they have more time to play videogames. That simply wasn't the case in my schools.

Wow, compered to you guys, I've been pretty lucky. Also, a tip for anyone trying to get passed blocks on youtube and gmail:

Gmail: Use the Google docs portal, in most board's Google docs isn't blocked.

Youtube: Use Https instead of http, for some reason that usually stays unblocked.

WAIT! My girlfriend first became attracted to me because she likes my hugs! Now we have sex! I get it: hugs lead to to teen sex!

But on a more serious note, I once was suspended for writing some admittedly terrible things in a girls yearbook, which we all thought was a joke and she was totally ok with, but a teacher was offended by it and had the book taken from her. They made it out like it freaked her out and made her cry and stuff, but my friends talked to her afterward and she said she was fine with it and it was just the teacher. MAKES ME ANGRY! I hate it when people take this kind of stuff too far...

I say start at the root, ban pats on the back. Pats on the back are the gateway to hugs.
Indeed, I am apalled at your schools' display of stupidity.

Organise a 'hug the principle day' where a mass of people agree to simultaneously hug the principle whenever they see him all day long. Rinse and repeat for a week or so and the ban'll lift.

We had similar fascism in my old high school. It's really just a case of people who found themselves in the wrong profession. Honest men and women who's true calling was the SS or prison wardens who found themselves caught up in the education system, poor souls.

jesus christ really? you're making my school like woodstock (drugs included, no joke)

you wanna know what your gotta do? there's a little place in the world, not a lot of people talk about it too often, it's called India. in India while under British imperial rule, there was this dude named ghandi who kicked their ass by doing nothing. and i am serious, doing nothing. then this black guy named martin luther kind jr. did the same thing, now obama is president.

what your school should do (assuming your student body as a whole is against this) everyone should band together and engage in non violent protests. do a cafeteria sit in where you and 20-40 people break this hugging rule and just hug until they suspend all of you. eventually, you'll fill up the detention rooms so much that there'll be no room (just like what MLKjr. did!) and in detention, keep hugging.

do this EVERYWHERE and in large groups. if you don't do this in large groups, not only will it won't catch on and gain support, but you'll be easily overpowerd. the sheer mass of students engaging in non violent protests is what gains attention from the principal and possibly the education board of directors.

OH, and if you can get your parents support, threaten the education board of directors with voting to recall them. November's coming up, and that's voting month, your parents can totally recall the school board.

and always remember: "At the center of non-violence stands the principle of love." -Martin Luther King, Jr.

My former high school loved this authoritarian bullshit. The most ridiculous rule they had, and I am quoting it word for word from the student handbook:

Only solid black or solid white socks may be worn as coloured and multicoloured socks are distracting to a learning environment.

Yeah. Exactly. My friend got a two hour after school detention because we was wearing stripy rainbow socks.

Yeah, it's called PDA (Public Display of Affection).

The only time where it was enforced was when a couple was making out in the bathroom.

The principal once tried to stop a boy and a girl from holding hands and the kid literally just glared at him till he walked away.
