Oddly enough, this is what gave it away as a prank to me - I didn't get any further. Have you seen the show recently? The insurers (and presumably Discovery) won't let Adam do jack, presumably because he's a celebrity and thus less expendable than Tory, the current onscreen blood donor (as last week's episode showed quite painfully). Adam builds stuff and acts silly, then sits in a bunker and watches someone else make his creations go boom.

IMHO Adam's more likely to die in a car accident on the commute to M5 than he is to die on-camera.
