To be fair though, Bruins fans were taunting Mason Raymond as he was helped off the ice after breaking one of his vertebrae. There are crap fans on both sides.
...no, that's a ridiculous comparison.
Pretty much every sports team in the world has taunted a player who's just been injured. Vancouver did it in the same series to us, Pittsburgh did it to Savard who still hasn't really recovered yet (Savvy <3). It's expected, it falls under the bracket of banter.

But, to the best of my recollection, Bruins fans have never set fire to their own city after losing a hockey match.

Awww. No Name Game this week. I was so looking forward to one when I got home. Moving is an acceptable excuse, though, I guess. And the sketches take away some of the sting. You had better not disappoint next week, though. Or else.. Um... I don't know... I'll be disappointed again. Yeah. You don't want that.

Anyway, have fun in the new city. Keep up the good work!

An acceptable Excuse when it comes to work....I know how it feels to move. I get called whenever a friend moves.
I'm betting that you have a truck.

Maybe not. I'm not saying it's anywhere near the same level of ridiculousness. And really as far as Raymond's injury goes I'm more annoyed at the refs for not calling the trip. But maybe that's just me.

According to police investigations, many (not all) of the riot instigators were planning on rioting regardless of the outcome. A lot of them brought incendiary devices, crowbars, gasoline, etc. with them, so it wasn't exactly a sole result of the hockey game.

However, since this also happened in 1994, there can't really be any excuses made. However, I think it's worth noting that Canucks fans inside Rogers Arena continued to cheer for the team even as the third period came to a close, and many of them cheered for Thomas when he raised the cup (and damn, did he deserve it). What I'm trying to say is that the majority of Canucks fans are pretty gracious people - unfortunately, as a result of the relatively small group of morons who decided to completely trash our downtown core, the rest of the world isn't going to see that.

this is true.... i am jealous. I have been a fan of LLR since talk like a pirate video was released and have yet to see any of the crew in person.

Also, yeah, its confirmed, lots of people brought gas canisters, hammers, etc.

There's suspicion its just a bunch of anarchists (we saw them at the 2010 Olympics and at the G8/G20 summits

You're right, but no for your reasons...

This was a Canadian riot. Only about $700,000 in damages, not too many people in the hospital, only a couple dead, and a few dozen lives ruined.

DID YOU SEE WHEN DUKE WON THE TITLE A FEW YEARS BACK? They practically razed the city to the ground. This was nothing compared to some of the other riots, but its recent, and security has done a good job of stopping them as of late. But this wasn't even close.
what is this a "my riot is better than your riot", dick waving contest.
Oh, this is all a big misunderstanding. See all the hockey fans were at home crying themselves to sleep, this riot was started by four Braziliians and a couple Scots over who's national team has more divers ;)

Going to Vancouver now eh? From when I've been there I can tell you it's a great city. Here in Calgary we almost almost came to a riot. I think some people smashed some stuff but mostly people vented in the nightclubs.
Hey, another Calgarian! High five! Here we actually were just crying ourselves to sleep :/

Well, I'm a massive Bruins fan.
I might get a warning about this or something, so let me apologize in advance and let me just clarify that I'm sure all three of you are lovely people and the Red Sox are my favourite baseball team. That said, umm...

All three of you can go literally

Also Tremp10k, welcome to the Escapist =)

Video-quoting Tropic Thunder.
The sign of a classy man.

If Vancouver can't even keep their city together. Just think of how'd they treat the Cup if they actually won!
It's why they can't have nice things.

Also, you spelled favorite wrong.

Nice things like the Olympics perhaps? :p Then again that resulted in a RBC getting blown up in Ottawa over aboriginal land rights to Olympic grounds in BC.

Also, he did not spell favourite wrong, you did.

Pfft I don't even care about the Cup if the Canadiens didn't win it. Bruins got nothing on the Canadiens and their record of most Cup wins.
