January comes from the Roman god Janus, who was the god of doors, lord knows why. January is named after him because of the beginning of a new year, or the opening of a new door.bassdrum said:January is actually from the Latin word for door, I believe, although my teacher could easily have been lying to me on that point (and it's been a while since high school Latin, so I may be a bit off). Regardless, the majority of months are named for things OTHER than gods either way.Red Right Hand said:Well, January, March, May and June were all named after Roman Gods, so therefore more months were named after gods than Roman leaders.bassdrum said:That's weekdays, not months (unless Julius and Augustus Caesar were actually gods).cWg | Konka said:named after a god like all the others, maybe fsmday
OT: Um... maybe we could just name it like all the rest and chuck a numerical prefix on. That would make it... Sextember. Yes, that will do nicely.
Also, I realised my mistake and edited my original post.
