Do I feel a strong enough attachment to my PC to bequeath a name upon it??! When haven't I?

...Never is the answer to that question, in case that wasn't clear. We've always given our computers names, generally on a theme - a practice my father started by naming all the computers at his job with nautical terms (Jib, Flotsam, etc).

At home we named our computers after musical terminology, so we have Rhythm, Blues, Jazz, Melody, etc. My personal computer is named Requiem, as its creation marked the death knell of sorts of a previous system, and Requiems are songs composed for funerals.

My computer is named Betty, and it's like a grandma. It's always there for you when you need it, and sometimes it shits in it's pants.
:O YOU NINJA...my computer is named Betty....but only because she has flames and if this was 1970 she would be a caddie with flames on it....she is a monster...12 gigs of ram TO DO WHATEVER I WANT
Mine has a mighty 2gb and has been running for over 10 years! I replaced the insides on several occasions but it can only take you so far.

I have a new one but am having troubles adapting to windows 7...
revert it back to XP. 7 says it needs 2gigs to run but thats it...it NEEDS 2gigs to RUN...if you wanna do anything ekse its already holding most of the ram and graphics up. revert back to XP and chill there untill you get something like my betty....btw my betty is 50 pounds...the fatty she is, and if you go for a new one i recomend ibuypower...dont do alienware or dell or mac...all overpriced crap
Betty is my old computer and it has XP, I got brand new system like 3 days ago.
OHHHHHH....i read that wrong..still at least 4gigs of ram and then you can play tetris and windows 7 at the same time...or get mine and play everything you have at the same time....AND I RECCOMEND duel screens...there kick ass
Screw duel screens I have tri-screens! Two monitors and my TV! And this time I can actually run all of them.

My dad named his computer Wodan. When I got mine he called it Donar, because it's Wodan's son.

I called my computers (Laptops) flaptops, craptops or klootbooks. (dutch pun) No, I don't really care about how my computers feel about their names.
I think you need to rename your laptops, you might never know when they become sentient

Good plan. Now what is a good name where no bad rhymes or puns could be made out of?

Johnson! No wait... Richard? Nah... I think my computer looks like a Herman. Yeah, Herman. Like a soldier, dedicated and strong. With a polished armor. It fits!

This may sound a little silly, but do any of you feel a strong enough attachment to your rig to the point where you feel like it needs its own name to give it character? If so, what would you name your PC if you haven't already, I haven't.
My PC is called Mildred.

MY PC is named Constantine, and my external is named Daniel. I've also named all my iPods, the xbox and have a name for when I get a car. xD

I just Name any PC of mine "Cyrus" and add a number to show which number PC it is for me, so my first computer ever was Cyrus1, my laptop was Cyrus2, my new desktop Cyrus3 and my newer laptop Cyrus4.

So as I had originally stated, I had (at the time of posting) no name for my Rig. I have now decided on one. I have decided to call it "Silvana" named after the famous uber floating battleship from the anime series "Last Exile" for those that are familiar to that show. Basically taking the extreme power aspect to resemble my PC, given its hardware parts and how smoothly it functions. anyway, that is all. lol. you may discuss this further at your guys leisure.

My desktop is called CS-2384 (CS standing for Cyberdyne Systems, of course).

My PS3 is called CS-1273.

My PSP is called PSP-chan. (too much anime, that day)

My 360 isn't named.

Depending on my mood it ranges from "Fucker" to "Love". I have an actual official name, however: "notadesktop".

I'm currently working off of a pretty nice Asus laptop rig, which I've tentatively named Zeus, until I find a better name - if I do.

I named my trusty rig Mawhrin-Skel when I bought it five or so years ago, because my best friend had already called hers Skaffen-Amtiskaw. Oh to be young, and in love with Culture novels.

I just bought a laptop for uni, and when asked to name it, called it Saffron.
She's dark red, very powerful, and extremely sexy, like Christina Hendricks' chracter in Firefly. Yum yum.

i need to learn to do that
1. get a program called GCFScrape
2. use it to open "Steam\SteamApps\portal english.gcf"
3. In GCFScrape navigate to "Root\portal\sound\npc\"
4. Right click the folder "turret_floor" and left click extract.
5. Exit GCFScrape and go to where you extracted it, all the sounds will be their.
6. the sounds all have nondescript names so it pays to listen to each one and rename it so you know which is which.
7. Next go to the "control Panel" and open "Sounds and Devices" (make sure its in classic view if using vista or win 7) and go to the "Sounds" tab.
8. Select an event to assign a sound to, left click "browse...", open the sound file you want to attach, then click the little arrow to make sure you picked the right one.
9. Repeat the step 8 until you have assigned all the sounds you want. (you don't need to put a sound to every event.
10. Click "Apply"

and your done
Questions?
no thanks for the tutorial though
