No no no no no. Releasing that you're developing Natal 2 already will definitely decrease sales for the 1st Natal, and then seeing that sales were poor the business guys at the top won't think that Natal 2 will be worth it and bag the whole project. *facepalm*.

It either suggests that Natal 1 is flawed, or it's going to get superseded. Either way, that's going to damage Natal 1 sales, most likely.

Wait to see if Natal 1 does well then start developement on Natal 2.
Just Microsoft trying to make more money...

Agree. This is just disgusting.
Yeah, a company trying to make more truly is disgusting...wait what?
I don't see the point of argument here. It's how developement works. Do you think after anouncing Blueray Sony and all the other sat back and waited what will happen? Or did the maybe go right back to their labs to improve and/or work on Bluray II? Porsche presenting the Panamera at IAA then picking their noses untill the car might or might not sells?
This is just regular workflow in development of any kind.

From the Left 4 Dead 2 clip it looks like Natal is pretty much done and now they're waiting for developers to come along and make a game using the Natal system. After Windows 7 was released forums started popping up about Windows 8.

Ugh, I'm sorry man, but that "sarcastic fake agreeing with the person you disagree with to point out the flaws in their argument" thing is getting really old.

On topic though: the reason I think this is disgusting is the same reason I think what Valve did with L4D2 is disgusting, or why I think 2K Marin putting Bioshock 2 DLC on the disc is disgusting. If a company is working on a sequel to a product before that product is released, they could just as easily work on the original product. Instead of putting additions onto Natal 1, Microsoft is choosing to put those additions onto Natal 2. Then, a year later, Natal 2 will be released, and they'll force people to pay extra money for additions which could have just as easily be put onto the first one. It would be like if Microsoft intentionally installed bugs onto Windows 7 just so they could make people buy Windows 8 (or whatever their next OS will be) to "fix" them. It's just an obvious ploy for more money.

Lol, innovator? Isn't this basically taking ideas from the Wii?
I'll probably not get either of them.

There's nothing wrong with trying to make money. What's wrong is that they suck at realizing that consumers remember stuff like this.

This is why my the friends of my friends list on Steam is still playing L4D instead of L4D2.

This confuses me to no end. Is there really a point to developing something that's the next model to something that's not ever released yet? Can't you just implement what you are developing now into the current product? Ahh mind boggling.

um wow. That's like Nintendo saying that they were working on a better wii a couple of months before the first wii came out. Why would you buy the first wii when obviously the better wii is in the works?

As a business strategy, that confuses me.

oh microsoft you evil, souless, cold blooded money machine. So your going to force people to pay twice for the same piece of monkey sperm. Clever. So people will have to pay top price for a product that's already being replaced. You are a evil little monkey, that you are.

While i agree with the Bioshock 2 DLC thing and to some extent l4D2, this is something completely different.
What you are throwing around are nothing but assumptions. Firstly, them working on a follow up does not mean it will be released next year, or ever for that matter. If Natal 1 fails miserably they'll just throw v.2.0 in the bin (also an assumption). Furthermore, Natal 1 already entered the markteting train for a Q4 release. They might have already started production, the marketing train is rolling. At this point you can't just go "Sorry guys, we were thinking of about a few improvements and therefor will cancel release for the time being till we think it's perfect. Stay tuned for 2013 though!".

This is by no means me defending Microsoft, they did enough crappy stuff to hate them till eternity. I just don't think that in this case i can hardly find anything "bad" which justifies the outrage voiced here.

I agree this is retarded, but what you just said makes no sense.

"Wait to see if Natal 1 does well then start development on Natal 2" (sounds financially responsible)

"Just Microsoft trying to make more money..." (That kind of contradicts your first statement)

Also, what else would Microsoft do? It's a COMPANY, is it supposed to be trying to make less money?

As a business strategy it makes complete sense. I should know because of the two business strategy books sitting on my desk in arms reach.

In order to stay ahead of you alwys need to be developing the next core competency to stop imitation. The fact that Microsoft is trying to become an innovator is only good for the industry. By driving technology advances the next iteration of consoles and products will be more advanced than had they not. It also forces Nintendo and Sony to up their game now, unless they want to be left behind.

If Sony, MS and Nintendo had any sense they would have been looking at the specs for their next generation of consoles when the last ones launched. Although the prolonged life cycle of this generation has probably thrown a few spanners in the works.
