Have you ever been in a situation where you almost were killed or almost seriously injured?

For me, I was at a pool party at a friend's house playing chicken. Naturally, I get stuck with this kid I absolutely hate, and I have to carry him.
So, our little game starts, and one of the people on the other team slugs the guy on top of my shoulders in the face. He goes under, and I hold my breath waiting to come back up. But he never let go of me when he fell, and instead decides to keep trying to win. I've been underwater for about five seconds, and all of a sudden, he snakes his legs around my neck and squeezes hard. I lost what was left of my breath, and I keep squirming like crazy to make him let go. I don't have the strength to get to the surface with him on me, so after a couple of seconds of not having any air, I fling my head back and hit him hard in the balls. He freaks out and lets go of me, and I break the surface and start coughing like crazy. He's still mad at me to this day about that moment.

One of my friends almost died. He was about to cross the street without looking, but I pulled him back, right as a car sped by the spot he was about to be in.

I've never had one though.

I almost got hit by a car once. My own fault, I ran out on a road. (Even if no cars were coming.) I swear to you, the dude was speeding!

-Shrug- No flash of life, though, I has tought me to be a lot more careful. ANNOYINGLY, I didn't even catch the bus I was running after! FFS.

Was walking the dog, he got off his lead, ran about half a mile with me chasing RIGHT into the road. I saw a van coming, so I sprinted as fast as I could to pick him up. I managed to get into a roll with him, onto the otherside. 'Twas awesome and scary.
Two bikers who had stopped clapped.

I'm NEVER doing that again.

Not necessarily a time when I almost died, but I was in a threatening situation.

When I was about 10 or 11, I was with my friends and we were shooting water balloons at passing cars with a sling shot out side of my driveway

Not the smartest thing to do, but it was funny.

That is until someone stopped.

Unbeknown to me, one of my friends thought it would be funny to put a rock in the balloon and shot it at a passing pick up truck. This made a large crashing noise and I assumed it was the window. When we heard the brakes of the car, we ran as fast as we could.

Fortunately, at the time, my driveway was covered by heavy bushes and trees so it was easy to hide.

I saw the guys who got out of the car. They were these creepy as fuck backwoods freaks and one of them was holding a goddamn shot gun.

They eventually left, but I've never been so scared in my life.

I won't be doing that again.

I've had a few. I almost died when I was 4 of an asthma attack, and when I was 15, a drunk driver going about 50mph, crashed a meter beside me.

Oh and I almost choked on a 20p coin when I was about 6. My sister thought I was pretending to choke so she hit me on the back, dislodging the coin.

Once, when I was young, I almost drowned in a pool, not knowing how to tread water. I was saved by my five-year-old brother in a floaty ring. Ten years later he still thinks I owe him a favor.

Much more recently, I was riding my bike down the middle of what is usually a very quiet residential street when a car pulled around the corner doing forty and very nearly took my leg off. Bastards didn't even slow down.

Your friends a douche bag, your life is much more important than his testicles, in fact, it would be allot funnier if you had somehow permanently damaged his pair.

Personally I've only had one near death experience, in which a lady whipped around the corner and almost ran me over while I was crossing the road, same thing happened a couple weeks later, cross at a red light, crazy ***** comes around the corner and almost runs me down.

Life is funny like that.

Also, there was the time two degenerates were tossing fireworks at me...

many many times.

for a long time i was on medication with the side-effect of not identifying danger and being in a constant state of not being totally awake.

it's 10km (6-7 miles i guess) to school. on a bike....

I think I already told my story in another thread but here we go:

In 2003 I was driving a Renault Megane EX between two provinces in my country, I am not going to lie I was not going slow, but 120kph is still withing the legal speed in my country. So, I found (literally) a crater on the road, which destroyed my front left wheel... from that momment on my mind erased all, but I woke up, a few hours later, in a room, I was lying there, I could not see, my rigth hand was useless, I had a terrible pain on my chest and back, I felt a warm liquid almost everywhere in my body (it was my own blood), and a woman... I guess she was a nurse, told me not to move at all, since I had a terrible accident, so, being a man, I asked for my car...which was totally destroyed, beyond any repairs. I passed out, and next time I woke up, I was moving, in an ambulance, they were transfering me to a hospital, I passed out again. Next time I woke up, I had cables attached to my head, and inclosed in some sort of tube, again I passed out.

to make my story short, it took 3 months until I could stand firmly on my feet again, and 3 years until my rigth hand was fixed.

I almost drowned twice during two different storms on the beach as a child, but my older bro saved my life both times.

Oh, another one I forgot to mention:

I choked on candy floss

I have NO idea how, as it dissolves in less then a second on the tongue...
But I sat there choking for about 20 seconds in the cinema, all my brother did was tell me to "Be quiet, there are people looking!"
Quite funny though :p

I've almost drowned quite a few times but I wouldn't say it wasn't under control.

Yeah, that's about it really, but the amount of times I've been underwater with no air and being quite far from the surface I remain much more calm. Which means I won't die like I would if I was flailing about scared.

Also OP you should have either dragged the guy under with you or gone limp so he thought you were drowning. You can be underwater without air for much longer than 30 seconds, and seeing as he knocked the air out of you after about 5 seconds means you were fine.

I almost drowned in a lake when I was 7 years old or so. I don't remember it very well though, but I do distinctly remember going deep underwater.

Maybe I did and this is just a second life though... who knows.

I've had five drowning events, some I got out of easily, but the last one I actually thought I was done for.

Oh and I was almost hit by a bus, in Belfast. The street I was crossing was surprisingly quiet for a city but as I was about to cross a bus speeds around the corner, I ran and just about made it.

Well, there's two times I can think of right now.

First and foremost, because it makes me look like a hero. Me and my mom and her (then) boyfriend and a lot of his friends were on vacation one day. We had gone out on the local lake to go boating. It was windy, but not enough to be trouble, so a guy, a pregnant woman, and a little girl in a lifejacket get into the water. They go out a bit and the wind picks up drastically. Either the boats or they are swept away in the current because of it, and the waves are insane. I'm still in the boat, and everyone's trying to decide what to do. I'm a decent swimmer, so I just dived in after them. Well, turns out the pregnant woman is a great swimmer, and the guy was in the fucking coast guard, so the situation was under control, but I held the little girl above the water, and I was the only one fucking struggling with it. Someone tries to pull one of the boats up to us so we can jump on before the tide sweeps it away, and I almost get hit with the damn thing, and it took us roughly a half hour to figure out how to get onto the boat, in which case I hold the girl up while the others ask if I'm okay because I'm proud enough to get myself killed at that point. When they finally do get the boat up to us, I hand the little girl up, then the pregnant lady, and the coast guard guy helps me get up. I hadn't realized I'd been "brave" until someone told me. I thought I was an idiot.

The second time was me trying to save my mom from being an idiot. We were heading home, and she decided to cross a busy road. Four lanes. The only problem was that the last time we saw the two lanes on the opposite side of the street, the light was red. On this side of the street, the traffic was backed up right to us and there were no more cars coming. So she starts walking, and I see the light change green, so I go after her to try and pull her back. Luckily for her, the oncoming traffic stops and waits for her to cross. At least, the guy in front did. So I, trying not to be rude, sprint across, because the car in the far lane was slowing down. Out of the corner of my eye, as I reach full sprint, I see the car behind the stopped car speed around him. I instantly try and stop and jump back. The road was wet, so my legs slipped out from under me. I landed on my hands and pulled myself back as fast as humanly possible and feel the thing brush against my shoe as I do. The asshole flipped me off, if I had been holding anything I would have thrown it at him. If I hadn't noticed that car at the last possible second, I would be in a cast today. I went numb for the day, a defense mechanism I picked up when I was younger, and managed to go to work without feeling any form of fear or depression.

And, I guess this would count. I was pitching for baseball for a friend's birthday. Right down the center, the batter hits it, and I swear, time slows. The ball's coming directly at my face at lord-knows-how-man MPH. The impact would probably have knocked my nose back into my skull, it could sever my spine, break my skull. People had been killed by less, I'm pretty sure something like this was used in the middle ages. And I pull a fucking spider-man. I drop to the ground just before the thing hits me, I even do the pose Black Widow does in all the Iron Man 2 photos, when she's in a crouch, in her outfit, in the white hallway. I didn't think it'd kill me at the time, but looking back on it...

I've been told it's happened other times, but I've repressed it.

I've been there. Also, I've saved my sister from backing into a moving skytrain. Apparently I have good reflexes for this thing, maybe I should be a firefighter... But I hate the heat, so fuck it.

Much to young for this crap...

Had a Massive Heart Attack just out of college.
Dr.'s notified my family that I was gone.
45 minutes later another Dr. said they were able to revive me,
but I probably wouldn't make it through the night. So hold off on the news.
Had a huge blood clot in my heart because it had stopped beating for so long.
They still can't figure out how I lived through it.

When I was 10, I was caught in a riptide, and dragged out almost 100 ft from the shore.

Luckily the life guard heard my cries for help, but the damn thing sucked my swim trunks off.

I almost drown during swimming lessons and the teacher didn't even notice, my older brother saved me.

There was also the time I was riding on the back of a four-wheeler and my cousin was driving, it's at my grandparents hunting grounds so we both know the trail by heart and right around a sharp corner is a rock that is a fun bump when you going fast. However she took it to fast and lost control and we ramped up a tree and she was thrown off and it landed on me. I was curled up in the fetal position unharmed.
