it's been years but I used to play the first left 4 dead hardcore with some friends, and (can't remember the map) when we were waiting for the boat to get there (you hide in the cabin/house as a bunker while the boat is on the way) we had all of the openings down like we were fucking rambo, and out of nowhere a boomer ran into the main front door and exploded, which in turn made our entry way look like this:

and of course, right when that happens a smoker hits our shotgun user from a different angle and drags him off. The front door defense got overwhelmed but we held, and so they take off because they hear the boat and I retreated towards the backdoor to head towards the boat that way, and low and behold, a gloriously pissed off tank is behind the door, he ***** slaps me across the house and back out the front door to which plenty of zombies had now congregated to again, to which I just span in a circle unloading my rifle, and surprisingly took out quite a few of the fuckers, was able to still hobble towards the boat (my friends were spilling every bullet they had around me to keep any zombies+that pissed off tank away from me) and about 10 feet from the boat the tank smashes me again, but this time ***** slapping me onto the boat FTW lol

the fact I survived was nothing short of a miracle.

Oh No Heart has those, in fact I think he has 3 moves that render those moves pointless. Wouldn't be a Super Boss without it, especially since he's Final Mix exclusive and those bosses are always harder than the ones in the original base game (bar Sephiroth from KH1 though).

-snip-

Having Counter-Guard/Counter Attack on for the Lingering Will can lead to you not having a good time, and it'll definitely wreck your day when going against the Data Organization, Roxas in particular. The Lingering Will follows the same rules as Vanitas' Sentiment, the more you hit him the more damage you do. Lingering Will was the boss that started that trend in the first place after all. You also can't stun-lock LW forever, as after a while he will break out of it, unless they nerfed that in 2.5 as well. Unless you have Berserk on, then you can do one combo with 2 finishers, and then half of another combo before he gets out of the stun lock. Not to mention, the battle can go wrong very easily if he starts off with one type of combination instead of another. He's got at least 5 or 6 different patterns that he starts out with, some of the worst ones are ones where he locks you out of all magic and you can only attack him. This also locks you out of healing items. Or he could lock out all your attacks and you can only use magic, which can be bad if you don't have a good magic skill.
So... What you're say is... that:
Lingering Will may or may not be easier or harder than Vanitas' Sentiment depending on how he starts off the battle... almost like how the Mysterious Figure battle can go from bad to worse depending on what move(s) he does during the "middle" of that particular battle...No Heart will make me question why I even thought Mysterious Figure was even a challenge in the first place... Almost the same way I thought that Vanitas' Sentiment was nothing compared to Mysterious Figure...[footnote]Actually, I thought VS was kind of a joke of a boss battle since I could never loose to him in the first place... Then again, it has been a while since I've beating him, so there's that...[/footnote]Yep... It looks like my gaming near-death count "might" go up just a bit more this year...

More or less, yes. Even then though, Lingering Will is easier than Mysterious Figure because MF has some anime BS to him at times, and god help you if you're playing as Terra with his terrible dodge when compared to every other character. No Heart you see, has two different forms, with the second one being worse than the first since that's when he decides to actually sit up from his chair...

When it comes to the Lingering Will, the worst things are his ultimate attack as he teleports during it so you need to know the end of each combo to block it, and when he has you trapped with the "Can only Attack/Can only use Magic" BS.

Well, just half an hour ago, Guild Wars 2. Was playing WvW in EB with my full zerker lazy scrub ranger, Golem rush to SM. Inner gate was down, I went in, the rest of the zerg didn't follow. So I was in there in a sea of red, dodging for my life. :/

Eventually the zerg did go in, but by that time I was too busy finding a good spot to heal to follow them, so they were in the lord's room and I was still with the enemy zerg. By the time I did get into the lord's room, our zerg had moved out again to recuperate (on the other side), so again me surrounded by basically everyone and having to constantly dodge to get out. :S

That went on for a few minutes, with me covered in enemies and incapable of getting to the commander or doing much of anything. I was down to a few hundred HP five times or so. Eventually the zerg got wiped, I miraculously managed to get to the top floor of SM and port out safely. No idea why absolutely no one had followed me there. My guildies on TS (who weren't in WvW) had no idea what I was yelling about for 10 minutes.

That'll teach me to stay on the commander. "You guys! Wait for meeee!" :O

In Fallout New Vegas I decided I wouldn't go the way they make you go in order to get to the strip. My character is around lv 5 at this point so a death claw is murder town. Well I go through that checkpoint and have two death claws chasing me and getting two hits I'm at low health and I'm just little ways to get out of the area. Since I understand the terrible AI pathing I use the rocks and cacti to help me run I just barely escape them when they stoped chasing me. Needless to say I felt like a crazy badass afterwords

nuclear throne.
playing steroids, reached 3,3 with low ammo for my bullet weapon and a crossbow.
the crows swarmed me.
it became bullet hell.
nearly died, was reduced to 2 hp.
big dog wakes up and run out of bullets
i hate to pick off 4-7 crows with a cross bow while dodging smg fire.
feels good.
died to lil' hunter
also the battle of the british north in rome total war.
1200 fresh Britons march upon my weary force of 400~ Romans. they had more Calvary, better arms and better numbers.
But we had the high ground and our flanks covered.they struck the left flank with their heavy chariots, straight into the barbarian spearmen i had stationed there.
I wheeled my forces to crush the chariots
their right flank charged mine and the battle began.
My Hastati held the line against long enough.
i split the combats down the middle and brought my general and the accompanying horsemen.
they shattered the left and cut down the fleeing enemy family member before wheeling to the right.
by then most of the enemy force was in flight.
more then half their force was routing, that was the final blow.
there were about a hundred Briton survivors
i lost 47 men.

Also the time my occupying force was attacked in the Spain.
outnumbered and attacked by mid period units.
i fell back to the town center and set up my forces.
Hastati on the hill, spear men both roman (auxillia) and barbarian on the flanks.
they marched through the walls and at my force.
mostly light infantry but their cavalry and bull warriors worried me.
harassed them from a distance with my ranged Calvary before they broke unto my lines.
they did something i would never had expected.
charged my spear men on the left.
the moment that happened i brought my infantry around to flank and rear charge them and moved my right units up
the enemy infantry reserves came up and through themselves against my flanking force before we could encircle the enemies on the left.
my axulia broke formation to flank that force and keep the roundshield cavalry from doing any damage when they decided to join the combat.
the left Spanish and left center began to rout and i moved my force to charge the remain infantry reserves.
then i noticed a unit of war dogs and light spanish infantry creeping up from behind my right side.
they began to eat through by Velites and could have taken the town center if i let them.
and there was a unit in the enemy left that had yet to rout.
the bullwarriors.
on top of all of this the enemy general decided to join the fray and the enemy was beginning to rally at the walls.
My force was NOT equipped for a slug fest.
Especially not one when i've got heavy infantry in my rear and that's if the enemy doesn't just capture the town.
I co mite as many units as i can to hunting down the enemy infantry in the rear.
Anything left went to the bullwarriors.
I broke them.
and then i rushed the remaining Spanish trying to rally at the walls.
I broke them.
I broke their general.
I broke their cavalry.
AND I broke the remaining infantry trying capture my city.
I had Won.
And of the several hundred Spanish that had joined today.
600 of them lay drowning in their own blood.
Withabout 114 of my own
GLORY TO HOUSE JULLIE.
GLORY TO ROME.
VAE VICTUS.

Since a couple of other people have brought up Rome Total War I thought I may as well.

First, some context. I had gone into the game files to allow my to play as unplayable factions in the campaign (seriously, even when you "unlock" them it only adds up to about half) and had selected the Scythians. I am a bit of a warmonger and dislike asking for peace once a war has started in that game. As a result, I was fighting a war on three fronts.

In Greece, I fought the Greeks and the Brutii with my Macedonian allies and making good ground. To the south in Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan I fought with whichever faction is set to win down there. This had hit a stumbling block due to me being overconfident and underestimating the effect chariots had on my forces as well as the number of soldiers they could bring to bare and had descended into a stalemate. The final front was with the Germans. I had made some pushes into their territory and not hit any real resistance and written them off as harmless and would deal with them when I freed up some resources. Just in case though, I sent a small holding force that would grow into an invasion force to sit on a bridge next to the border.

Turns out I was right to do this as a few turns later a huge army tried to take the bridge resulting in a disastrous battle for my own forces as German spear me forced me into a stalemate on the bridge where four squads of ax men were whittled down to just two soldiers. The final head count revealed four heavy cavalry squads, two archer squads and the aforementioned infantry. I ended up deciding to leave the force there in order to protect the border and two turns later another equally large army attacked. I couldn't run as the damage they could do to my income would cripple my war efforts since I was barely balancing the books. Instead, I arranged the cavalry in a bucket formation at my bridge end with archers to the left and right and the remaining squad of heavy cavalry sitting behind the bucket. When the spear men crossed over in phalanx, the two sides of the bucket charged forcing the first squad to up spears to fight properly. The remaining side then charged sending the initial squads into rout. Since the German army was now stuck on the bridge, the archers opened up and demolished them. The battle ended with less than ten losses on my side and over six hundred of theirs dead, mostly clogging up the river. That strategy became the hallmark of all my defence strategies involving narrow entries and it got my out of similarly bad situations for a long time after.

Jesus, I feel like Yahtzee must have after he did that thing on XCOM he boasted about.

My second one was in FTL. It was in the first or second sector. I had deviated a little too much from the exit because of a quest, and when I arrived, the place was already occupied by the Rebel fleet. I had no way to defeat the ship (its shields stopped everyone of my attacks). My only choice was to survive until the FTL engine was ready and GTFO ASAP. The barrage of attacks seemed to not have any pauses. Holes began to appear on the ship, fires began to spread all over the place, vital systems got severely damaged and the hull meter kept going down. But the members of my crew kept focused in maintaining navigation and engines up as long as possible. Finally, when the next wave of missiles and laser was about to bring my ship down, the FTL system charged up, and I jumped out of the sector. Finally, out of reach from the Rebel fleet I still wasn't out of danger. The fire was out of control, the oxygen systems were down, and holes in the hull were sucking out the air. Thanks to the medical center, the crew was able to make the repairs and survive the horrific encounter.

A post-game fight in Pokemon White 2 comes to mind.

It was against the previous Champion of Black/White - Alder. My team included an Emboar and a Zoroark, along with others. I had him down to his last Pokemon, a Volcarona, and it was sweeping my entire team. Only Zoroark and Emboar were left.

Zoroark's ability is that he appears in the form of whatever living Pokemon is before him in the queue - in this case Emboar, simply cause he was the only one left alive. I was certain it was over since I had no decent strategy at this point but I thought I may as well send out Zoroark to get slaughtered first (if he's the last one then Zoroark only appears as himself which means his ability was useless).

It had the move Psychic, which it tried to use over and over and over again because it thought it was fighting an Emboar (Fire/Fighting) when really it was fighting a Dark type (immune to psychic moves). I had the time to resurrect my entire team before whittling him down Dark attacks... it was beautiful. What's more amazing - it also had Silver Wind (a powerful Bug type attack, which would've been super effective against Zoroark and undoubtedly killed him instantly... had he used it)!

That's all I needed to hear, given how I already knew about how "unbalanced" the fight against MF can be when playing as Terra, no less[footnote]I mean, beating MF as Terra was the last thing I had to do in order to have that "100% Trinity Archive" in the PSP version...[/footnote]... In fact, usually when I ***** about MF, it's usually in referenced to playing as Terra since he's now not as big as a problem whenever I try to beat him again as either Ven or Aqua on the PSP... Sure, you still have to hope he doesn't do his "whip combo-chain" or his "countdown to die" before just cloaking himself for the latter third of the battle, but otherwise the "keep alternating between 'dodge-rolling away' and 'using Thunder Surge at him' with the standard 'heal now to live' on hand and the 'don't even think about looking at his health bar' if needed" strategy has done the trick just fine for me...

As for that No Heart battle, it made me think of two things:
Too bad we can't fight him with friendsHe can FLY?!There was a third thing, but that could be summed up with this:

I've had a bunch of these in Shadow or Mordor. The best was probably the other day.
There I am tracking down a particularly tough captain Planning on branding him to my will. He's surrounded by a couple dozen grunts and another THREE high level captains. All 4 are immune to ranged and stealth damage (WTH?!) and the one I wanted to brand was immune to being jumped over (my favorite move is jump stunning then chopping them up from behind) I ended up going full "Leroy Jenkins" all up in that shit and decided to drop down right in the middle of them. Lol. I start the fight off well, killed a captain pretty quick, and was cutting down and branding mooks left and right but I hadn't noticed the captain I wanted to brand was a freaking spear thrower. He just sat there behind a wall of mooks tossing spears that almost NEVER missed and the next thing I know I'm doing that save your life QTE. I win, but now I'm almost dead and the mooks numbers are growing finally I just decided to call it and split. I peaced out and got a couple hundred feet away to the nearest health herb, I heal up and then get a spear in the back WTF!? I look over and there is he is flanked by the two remaining captains... and none of his mooks. YES! I'm thinking. I charge in again and fight the 3 captains vs ranger show down they wanted so bad. with out so many mooks to cover for him I could dodge his spears pretty easily and I ended up pulling off two pretty sickening decapitations on the other two captains, before taking him down and branding him. all in all the whole fight was maybe 30 minutes long and it was really touch and go a few times but I came out of it with a new captain as my ***** and half a tier of captains wiped out, and a couple decent New runes.

My other favorite I actually got on video, it was in Titanfall and I felt like an action hero right then and there.
