Minecraft is pretty damn scary when its dark outside and those zombies are coming after you. I swear I shit bricks when they came after me in my little cave.

Wait, what? I don't know what a VN or Saya no Uta is. By the way, I am a morbid person, twisted and disturbing parts of anything have never troubled me, my next planned vacation is hopefully to a catacomb :D (jk, i don't think im allowed in catacombs.)
Well, I can only recommend checking out Visual novels (VN's) in general (They're sort of like the early point and click adventure games, without the "point" part).

But from what I've heard on it - and I've looked into it quite a bit because of its supposed merits, though I've abstained from playing it as a consequence of looking into it - Saya specifically is a thing well beyond "twisted": the kind of things that might actually be illegal to possess in some jurisdictions.

I'd say stay the hell away from it. Fred obviously disagree. If it's lawful for you to possess it, I guess it's your choice.

Well, it shall be checked... i google-imaged it first, i have no idea what the problem would be, asides from partial nudity. well, there was a pleasant image for some poor sod with his guts providing a blanket, but meh.

You kidding me? i made a cake and had a party with em... course i had to place them in a large lighted pit for safety reasons, but still.

Too Human. Gosh, that game still gives me nightmares. Try out the Condemned series. There are some really memorable moments in the first one (mannequins!) and in the second one (the entire dang FBI head-quarters level). Both are excellent horror games.

Something like Resident Evil 4 (PS2), and Indigo prophecy/Fahrenheit (PS2), and the Condemned series (Xbox360) might fit the bill, and while perhaps not exactly horror Limbo (Xbox360) or the Manhunt games (PS2/PC) might be worth a look as well for their thematics.

If you're feeling adventurous, there's of course also something like Chaos;Head [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaos_Head] or Animamundi: Dark Alchemist [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animamundi:_Dark_Alchemist], Japanese horror visual novels for PC.
There is no way Resident Evil 4 or Indigo Prophecy are horror games. No way.

Fatal Frame might be your best bet. I can barely play that game, and I've heard the sequel is even scarier which I can't even imagine.

UPDATE my computer doesn't know how to download that No says uta thing, but i looked up a quick summary of the beggining and have to say, i really wanted to see a street paved with flesh and cartilage. For the record here, I have a notebook filled with drawings of maimed peoples, so this probably wouldn't have phased me anyhow.

(I'm not a insane person.... just a bit sick/twisted, at least privately.)

1 question, which video game store sells fatal frame anymore?

Neither of those are Saya No Uta, what are you doing?

If you think that's impressive, a close second would be Silent Hill 3, the later levels. Seriously, hunt it down any way you can.

For less gore but more atmosphere, go for Silent Hill 2. I know you say you can't find them, but FIND THEM ANYWAYS.

Yes, but neither James nor Heather are cannibals fucking Lovecraftian nightmares.

I don't find Saya scary personally. It's more a matter of the glorious contrast between the lone girl that forms this guy's sole beacon of sanity (okay maybe not sanity but you get my meaning) and the nightmarish meat-scape that makes up EVERYTHING ELSE. It's the kind of monstrous design that Campbell would probably call terrible yet sublime.

Ahahahaha! Turn your volume down:

The best part is that these are some of the most restrained reactions to these games.

Wait, why is he swinging an eyeball axe? surely there are more conventional methods of murder than eyeball-axes. And yes, my current life goal is to find silent hill 2, maybe 3.

Condemned: Criminal Origins (The first one) is pretty good, but my favorite is System Shock 2, don't know where you'd find a copy though.

Three is much scarier, two is somewhat better overall.

And he's swinging an eyeball axe because absolutely everything he sees (except himself and one other girl) is covered in or made of meaty body bits.

I feel i should add im working my way through the Necronomicon, aka lovecrafts compiled works. When i think of lovecraftian i tend to imagine strange rubbery life forms similar to bi-pedal octopi or vegetables. So the meat world doesn't quite fit my notions of the term. Also, i think if super meat boy had a nightmare world, it would look like that.

The writer, Gen Urobuchi, is a HUGE Lovecraft fan. Trust me, you'll like Saya no Uta.
