I find it funny how you can say "ass" and "hole" on TV, but not "asshole."
It gets amusing when they censor the "hole" but let them say "ass".
Yeah. I always think "Did he/she just call that other person an Assfuck?"
I grew up saying Assfuck because I thought thats what they were saying...

i find while i listen to the radio that some songs get bleeped at the mention of God. and i absolutely don't understand it. is it to please the atheists? but wouldn't that just piss off theists? that's why i don't listen to the radio anymore.

There's little more I can consider "needless censoring" when I see people type "f*ck" and "sh*t".

I know exactly what word you mean, and there's nothing remotely offensive about the bloody vowels. You mean "fuck" and "shit". Enough of this asterisk crap already.

Also, bleeping words in comedy only serves to ruin the joke unless it's deliberately used in irony.

I think censoring is a stupid idea if your going to watch something that has dirty words you already know that so why censor it

You've got it backwards, there. The vocal side of the theists get a little cranky whenever they think a certain name or two's being "used in vain."

Me and my friend were playing Rock Band 2 and in one of the songs, the singer says "God damned". Well, they silence out "God" but "damned" stays. I personally don't think either word should be censored, but I always find it hilarious that they decided to censor God instead.

The song "Into the Mouth of Hell We March" by Trivium (on Madden 10 mostly). The censored version goes as far as to censor the work "skin" in the chorus. That's pretty far if you ask me.

I think censoring is idiotic. If you don't want to see/hear something, don't watch/listen to it. REALLY EASY!

Yeah, like when they played the one Panic at the Disco song. They silenced 'God', but left in damn. Why?

I guess I can see how that would go down in that way. Although, sometimes the vocal side of the Atheists can be just as picky. So you can see how I was just throwing out the guess.

Because saying "god damn" is blasphemous because it's taking the lord's name in vein (even though that's not the lord's name, it's Jehovah, and god is simply a general term). Take out god and no theist should have a problem with it...aside from a guy cussing, I guess, if you consider damn a cuss. I don't.

Dutch censorship is practically non-existent. If content is not appropriate for kids it won't be aired before 10 pm or something. Only censor-beeps we get are the ones put in by the makers of whatever show/film they are in (and you can't blame show/film makers for censoring their own material a little in order to pass lower age limits, this self-censorship also doesn't deteriorate the quality over the source material as much as external censoring would in my opinion).

The only 'disruptive' censoring I can think of in public media would be in sex line advertisements that appear on late-night commercial television, where 'they' would put white shiny stars over the girls most private parts. I've recently discovered this is done in printed advertisements for pornography (a porn/sex toys/lingerie catalogue I saw). Very random.

So yeah... haven't really encountered over-censoring as far as I can remember!

The other day I was watching an episode of Family Guy on Fox and they where doing a Family Feud parody in which Peter was the host. He kissed one of the female contestants as the host of the show often did and then grabbed her breast and Fox censored it with the definition of the word vulgar. Normally they just cut out any "inappropriate" scenes, but that was just bullshit.

ITS TIME FOR THE BEEP VAN BEEP SHOW!
Haha. I'm sorry I know no one likes it when Family Guy is quoted, but this post just made me think of that episode.

Look guys, we HAVE to censor as much as possible.
This generation is going to ruin the planet, economy, and use up most of the resources so we need the next generation to be too much of a pansy to yell at us in our old age.
I say block the violence! The curse words! And while we're at it, continue using antibacterial stuff until they all have allergies to everything!

Then I'll truly feel safe when I'm old and dying in my run-down house.

While this is mostly true, we do need the next generation to be strong enough to actually attempt to fix our rotten mistakes, so away with the censors, they do us no good.

Americans are not mature enough to handle an episode of Jerry Springer without bleeping stuff out.

America is a highly censored nation. I find it sad really. Also here in the UK, the newscasters can't give us the good juicy bits of horrific news stories because it's to shocking to broadcast. Not to me it's not. I feel oppressed by other peoples immaturity and inability to handly adult life.

Damn ITV News.
