NES Remix Review - This Cartridge Blows

Hasn't it already gone too far with New Super Mario Bros./Wii U/2/Any other bloody game that Nintendo have released with Mario that isn't an RPG or part of their year of Luigi(discounted Super Luigi)?
If the price was more decent, this might've been a good way to preserve those old titles a la GOG, but those games aren't lost gems so it's a bit of a cynical cash grab, as you rightly said, Jim.

I've found the game enjoyable, and do not regret buying it (although I'm not gonna argue that the price is way too high for what it is. It should be 8 bucks tops).
The main issue I've found with the game is that a heavy chunk of it depends upon luck. For example, while playing a challenge that was basically winning an inning of Baseball I had the pitcher essentially run the clock by throwing at the guy on first base who was making no attempt to steal at all roughly five times in a row. Meanwhile I'm just kind of sitting there with my baseball bat wondering when I'm going to have to actually play the game. Getting less than three stars because a challenge is legit difficult is one thing. Getting one star because the pitcher decided he was going to actively cockblock you is another.
I also felt the selection of games could have used a bit of work. I don't really think the sports games really match the style of game they're going for. Especially golf. Golf is designed to be slow paced. Metroid being missing seems like a huge mistake considering what it had been replaced with. Urban Champion was another that seemed mostly unnecessary since you can't really do a lot with it, while something like Kid Icarus could have stretched a lot further.
They probably didn't focus enough on the remix stages. I think if the game was just those (while still maintaining the amount of content) it would have worked a lot better.

On this site unless you constantly praise a game company and never criticize them it means you hate that company with every fiber of your being, and any actual praise you've given them is swiftly forgotten. OT: Can't say I'm surprised about this review, as I've played the game and it honestly felt like it was trying to be Warioware-esque without the selfawareness or parody of it. Plus at $14.99 it's way too expensive for what it's trying to be. You're better off using that money to buy Earthbound or some other game on the eShop.
At first I thought this was some kind of flash game over at newgrounds, not a RETAIL game from NINTENDO.
It's a shame, because I rather like the IDEA of a 'more mature warioware'.

I was going to mention it, but I thought it would confuse my point, which is how surprised I am of how critical you are of this "Remix" and how critical Yahtzee was of Super Mario 3D World. I'd just wish Nintendo would admit that it's so far out of the loop due to its desire to stay traditional. They really need to make some changes soon and throw out a few of those traditional "ideals" - Society's changing and they're going to find yourselves in a spot where their games don't relate to anybody.

Guys, you probably shouldn't trust Jim's review on this.
It's a bunch of mini challenges similar to Warioware and NSMBU's challenges, with a wide difficulty curve. What you see is what you get. If you think you'd enjoy playing through many objectives based on NES games, you'll enjoy this game. While it is fairly overpriced, it fulfills its intentions well. It's probably best to wait for a discount, though.

I bought it as soon as I saw what it had on offer and while I don't regret downloading it, I do realize that I should have probably waited for a price drop...then again, I've spent more money on worse things so there's that to hide behind.
Because it feels like a gross advertisement to go buy games from the VC, there is even a button to shoot you to the VC to buy the games in NES remix.Xman490 said:

Actually, Jim is probably one of the most pro-Nintendo reviewers on this website. Just because he didn't like this game doesn't mean he hates Nintendo. He sticks up and vouches for them quite a bit in his Jimquisition series. He's always fair about it though, he doesn't mindlessly agree with everything they do, nor does he gush over every Nintendo game for just being a Nintendo game; but unlike a lot of the other reviewers and most of the forum goers on the Escapist he doesn't have knee jerk hatred for everything Nintendo does just because they're Nintendo. I think it's because he's so fair and unbiased about things is why he's one of my favorite contributors on this website.Xman490 said:

Wait why shouldn't we trust Jim's review on this? You never explained that part. Jim is one of the few reviewers I have seen that actually gives Nintendo a fair shake and even has a Jimquisition video that states he believes the WiiU won the console war because they are focusing on games.Madmanonfire said:

From all the gameplay and youtube videos I've seen, it looks fun as hell! I do agree the price is at least $5 too high, but this is also one of Nintendo's first ventures into this weird meta territory, so I don't expect them to have reasonable expectations or concept of value. Nintendo of today fumbles quite a bit when adopting new concepts. I am sure the price will go down though, not many people can be buying this at $15 a pop.

That being said if there is one thing with Jim you can count on its the fact that regardless of if the game got a 10 or a 0 Jim always gives you concrete reasons why he ranks things as he does. It isn't about making you agree with him. It's just about giving you an honest opinion so you can make a decision for yourself based upon his personal experience.
People scoffed at his Origins review, but I had a crap ton of glitches when I played through it as well.

Jim's right on this one, and echoes my thoughts after watching the latest Nintendo Direct feed. This game seems like a quick and bad cash grab. Its uninspired and lame (like much on the feed) but I'm sure some will still excuse it.
Where are the new games, you all cry and Nintendo looks down on you from on high, and throws you these scraps of its past, that its scrapped from beneath its shoe. The big irony here that's kind of funny and yet tragic, is that while Sega to this day still use their IP stable very little and effectively, Nintendo on the other hand have done the opposite, clinging to its precious past far too much Golem like, that its like the present and future don't mean anything to them.
And as the rest of the world moves on, they are stuck in time, and fail to really try and free themselves because they don't want to compromise their vision. With the Wii U tanking and this game output lacking, what does the future hold for them. Yes, they have cash reserves in money bins, that can lift the from the Wii U TKO, but the real question is can they be trusted to use it wisely, free or gimmicks and give all gamers, not just some, what they really want?
I remember, MS had a certain vision for Xbox One, but at least they had the humility to fix it when many gamers disagreed with it.
