Okay. Wear a raincoat.
[sub]Points for the reference![/sub]

It's supposed to be pretty rainy in Seattle, but other than that pretty mild. You can hop the border to Canada to visit B.C., and it's supposed to be pretty environmentally forward.

Avoid the highways between ~4:30 and ~6pm if possible. And all the museums in Seattle have free admission on the first [tues or thurs, can't remember which] of each month; so save your money for one of those days. The Pacific Science Center Imax is well worth it for most movies. Be sure to visit some improv theaters from time to time (I can suggest some good ones, my favorite being Bloodsquad [http://www.bloodsquadpresents.com/index.html]). all the other famous Seattle locations are worth visiting at least once; At least I haven't found any of them "Over-rated".
Um... if you list some of your interests I can probably list things you may find fun to do.

Welcome to the Escapist!! Sorry, had to. Anyways, is there anything fun to do outside of seattle itself? Like Redmond and the like?

I wish I was moving up to the Seattle, instead I'm stuck in stupid Camas in southwest Washington. Right now it's not too rainy here in Washington in fact it's been a little on the hot side. I would definitely go check out Pike Place Market I go there every time I go up there and it is always fun even if you're just people watching. Also go see the EMP and SciFi history museum but I honestly wouldn't bother with the space needle. I found it rather boring.

Redmond? yeah, punch the guy that sold me a defective scuba tank in the balls that lives there. Not so familiar with Redmond itself. I'm closer to Everett and I only go through Redmond while traveling east to some pretty awesome hiking trails. Redmond isn't that far from Seattle anyways, only about 15 mins. If you are an outdoorsy type, there is plenty of hikes just to the east in the mountains. Not sure what other fun stuff to do you are interested in.

The "rainy" aspect of that area is exaggerated IMO. I've spent a few months there off and on over 3 years, and it hardly ever rained. It was usually just overcast with occasional drizzle. Just don't hold out hope for seeing the sun. There's a reason why they have UV bars where you can sit under sun lamps...without that sun exposure, depression is much more common (among other issues).

good rainy weather, good food, good coffee
I love the weather here. Everything is so green! Most small business restaurants have great food. And you will never be in lack of a Starbucks. You WILL see a Starbucks nextdoor to a Starbucks here... nextdoor to another starbucks... With perhaps another starbucks hiding inside the grocery store next door.

The area is good if you like hiking. Don't expect a lot of sun, because for 9 months out of the year you hardly see any. There are some good museums around that area (the Museum of Flight, and the Sci-Fi museum in Seattle center are my favorites). Bring lots of jackets because it is not very warm around here most of the time. Other than that I cannot think of anything. Welcome to Washington!

I can tell you that although the amount of rain we get is a little overexerted, it does rain a shitton. I would say depending on what time of the year you were here you may have not been here when it wasn't too rainy.

Really, the rain's only bad from October until around April. The rest of the time it's great weather. As for the highways, yeah, traffic is awful from Tacoma to downtown Seattle on I-5 north (don't know about southbound toward downtown, since I lived around Lacey).

Ocean Shores is a great spot for a day trip, Mt. Rainier or St. Helens (specifically Johnston Ridge Observatory) are musts.

Come to PAX, if you can. Sakura-Con is always fun too.

Oh, and check out the Sci-Fi Museum/Experience Music Project. It's cheap to get in, and the ticket covers both. They've got a buncha props from Sci-Fi movies in the SFM portion, and stuff like Jimi Hendrix's guitars in the EMP, if you're into that.

And if you like D&D and other tabletop games, check out Gamma Ray Games on Capitol Hill. They often have open gaming and it's fairly easy to get involved in an on-going campaign there.

I'll post more if i think of any. Oh, and welcome to Washington. Enjoy the coffee and salmon.

EDIT: OH! Go to Pike Place Market. It's awesome.
